Preparing for Tragedy

A set of eight poems dedicated to the various crises Earth continually goes through and my thoughts around them.

We are taught to prepare for tragedy,

To watch news reels

And protest marches

And feel righteous for two minutes

Before we sit back on couches and flick over to avoid

An advertisement.

We rationalise tragedy,

Put it into neat lines of poignant problems and

And we leave them there until ignorance wrecks us

Or decomposes them.

Let me spell out these problems

For the clever ones among us

And hope that poetic lines wake up

Those who refuse to listen to straight answers.
