Rubeus Hagrid, the Groundskeeper and Keeper of the Keys, shouted: "First years come with me; second to seventh years can come when they're ready to travel to the Castle by boat", he said. Draco Malfoy walked to the Slytherin dormitory with Pansy, Crabbe, and Goyle. Oliver Wood stared at Harry. "Would you like to be the seeker for the Quidditch team this year, Harry?", he asked him. "Sure, will Professor McGonagall like me on the team?", he answered him. "Yes, your broom skills are excellent", Wood stated. Harry nodded. "I'll be meeting you and the other Gryffindor team members after class", he said. "Fine, meet me at three o'clock today", Wood strode forward to the other sixth year wizards, leaving Harry to ponder the idea about having a successful career in the wizard's favourite sport.

Peeves the Poltergeist smashed several candles in the dim hallway. "What-", Argus Flich said. Harry noticed a small fire was bursting along the hard ground. "Water!", he shouted with his wand. As the fire scorched old Slytherin House robes that dropped out of the glass cabinets to the far left, Filch yelled: "You did this, Potter-". Harry stared at him. "I saved the Castle from ruin, Filch. It was Peeves who did it, not me. And, besides, I'm sure Lucius Malfoy would want to know how his old wizard's robes caught on fire", he said. Filch, for once, was lost for words. Draco gathered up his father's robes. "Potter, thank you. Peeves, when I'll get you, you'll face the ghost of the Bloody Baron". And he strode away towards the cold Slytherin dormitory where he informed his father by letter what happened to his robes.

Professor Snape stared at all of the wizards during Potions class. "Second years should, in essence, have learned something from the first year. Unless you've started to boil your cauldrons in an accident, or get by because you're famous like Harry Potter, it is my belief that all students of witchcraft and wizardry, need to show me something which means they can use herbs in the right way. Can you tell me the difference between wolf's hound breath and wild roots from the Whomping Willow?", he asked. Hermoine raised her left hand in the air. Draco raised his right hand. "Yes, Miss Granger, Malfoy? One at a time". "Wolf's hound breath can cause instant paralysis to the wizard, warlock, or witch", she answered. "And the wild root has healing powers since it can be used to heal sick people", Draco added. "Correct. Fifty points to Gryffindor and Slytherin houses. Potter, what is the difference between the Devil's Weed and Goat's Fire?", he asked. "Devil's Weed is used by dark magicians to cast spells; and Goat's Fire creates a mixture of different potions by witches", Harry said. Professor Snape was taken aback. "Fifty more points to Gryffindor House", he said reluctantly. "Professor, shouldn't we discuss Defence...", Hermoine begun to say before Snape waved his right hand theatrically in the air, as his black cloak moved across his body. "The Defence against the Dark Arts job is to taken by Remus Lupin". Harry gasped. He hadn't heard about Lupin before. As the bell rang, Professor Snape said: "I want everyone to practice chapters 3 to 8 by tomorrow's lesson on the different kinds of potions to use. That is all. Dismissed!". And, as Harry left the dungeon, he felt his scar burn in his forehead.

Harry heard the sound of low voices. "The Dark Lord is going to rise. Soon...Bellatrix is in Azkaban prison...Let her out! Let her out! She has the dark mark on her right arm; she will honour Lord Voldemort...". The idea that someone so dangerous would break out of the notorious wizard's prison caused him to run towards the North Tower. "Where're you going, Potter?", Professor McGonagall asked. "Bellatrix is going to break out of Azkaban prison. You must tell Professor Dumbledore Lord Voldemort's back", he answered her. She gasped at the serious news. Suddenly the tower door opened, and Dumbledore spoke. "Come with me, Harry, Minerva", he said. And, as they headed inside, all hell broke loose at Hogwarts.
