Revolution in Another World

When I have opened my eyes in this world, as much as I had been fascinated by the fantasy of this land, I was also disturbed by the law of this world as well. In this world, slavery still exists and so was the status-oriented society. No matter how hard you try, there was no such thing as climbing in the ranks of society. The low class were treated as if they were an animal and the high class acted as if they were monarchs. What could I do to change this world? that was how my journey had begun.

9. Seventh Chapter - Searching for the Answer

Revolution in Another World

Searching for the Answer

"Have you heard about the magician that the kingdom had been searching for lately?" One of the academy teachers in the lounge brought a subject to talk about.

"Wasn't that just a rumor?" Another teacher answered.

"How do you think a magician would be able to survive against the royal knights? There is no way," The staff who had been listening to the conversation intruded.

I had been brewing my own coffee this entire time while the conversation had been ongoing behind my back. It's already been a year since I became alone in this world again. I had been travelling many places before I settled in this academy as a substitute teacher. It seems that there is a shortage of staff members and that was the reason why I was easily employed here. Not to mention how this academy was built for trainee magicians who hadn't been chosen as apprentice magician yet.

The reason why I chose to work in this academy was because of the fact that I had access to all of the equipment and testing sites that shouldn't be available in public. It would also mean that I would be disguised as an ordinary teacher at a magic academy instead of a criminal chased by the knights of the kingdom.

"Mr. Claudea! How do you think about the rumor?" The teacher who started the conversation in the first place asked.

"It's baseless," I answered and the rest continued with their discussion.

When the time had passed and it was time for us to leave the campus, I headed to the train station and waited in the bench. It seems that trains in this world has been powered by the magic stones which emit certain amounts of corresponding attributes. For instance, the fire stones would emit fire and heat and it would be used as a fuel for steam engines. That was the reason why magicians are equivalent of inventors, technicians, or engineers in this world.

It took me about twenty minutes to arrive at my apartment near the bustling avenue. The night had come yet the end had not been for those who had been enjoying the festive mood. However, the happiness wasn't for everyone.

"Please! I can't bring any money," I saw a bruised child being tormented by a middle-aged man who seemed to be a debt collector. It was dangerous thing to be borrowing loans from them as it would not only be applied to them but to their relatives and farther descendants if not paid.

"Shut up! You are going to be a slave! Do you want your sibling to be one instead of you?" The debt collector threatened and the child couldn't resist any longer. Being sold as a slave meant that you would lose all of the opportunities as a human and live as a possession.

"Could you promise me one thing?" The child cried on the insides.

"My siblings won't become slaves, won't they?"

"Of course," The debt collector smirked while the child wasn't looking at him.

My patience reached its limits.

"Close your eyes," I told the child.

"Who the fuc-" The debt collected fell on his knees as he noticed that something important inside of him had been deprived away from him. He glared at the intruder who seemed to be the reason behind his sudden emptiness. It shocked him when he realized that the stranger had been holding a freshly butchered organs in his hand.

"That's mine..." The debt collector thought to himself. He tried to reach for it, but before he was able to do so, he fell onto the stone ground head first. In his last moment, he saw the stranger with the most vile smiles as he was losing his consciousness. He couldn't understand what was going on right now, but the fact that this stranger had been dangerous to his work had been engraved to his mind.
