15. The Secret Castle-Part Fifteen

~~~
The next morning Harry Potter awoke in the Gryffindor dormitory. He was wearing his wizard's robes, and black boots on his feet. Hedwig remained in her cage. "I do believe that we have potions class soon", Ron said. Harry scowled, as he felt the coldness of the dungeons prey on his mind. The image of Professor Snape deducting points irked him. Harry, who knew the class wasn't his strength, followed Ron out of the dormitory, then down the stone steps towards the freezing dungeons, where all of the Slytherin wizards were waiting for them.
"It seems that you're late, Potter", Professor Snape said. Harry stared at him. "No I'm not, Professor. You just have it in for me because you hate my parents", he said. Everyone gasped. "Ten points from Gryffindor House". Draco Malfoy grinned at the exchange. "I didn't hate James Potter", Professor Snape said. Harry, who attempted to remember his dead parents, didn't believe him. "Really, how about Lily Potter, my mother?", he asked him. Professor Snape sighed. "That doesn't concern you, Potter. It's all in the past. Now, what do you do when you face Devil's Snare?". "You say a spell to get rid of it, Professor. Otherwise you'll be...", Hermoine said. "I didn't tell you, Granger. Obviously the great Harry Potter isn't as smart after all", Professor Snape smirked. He stared at Harry. "Well, I'm waiting, Potter", he added. "Devil's Snare is a plant which covers the wizard's body, arms, and legs. You need to cast a spell to get rid of it", he said. Professor Snape grinned. "You're lucky, Potter. I suggest you read all of the books before next Potions class. Otherwise, you'll fail to progress at Hogwarts. Now, everyone can use plants in their cauldrons for the next hour or so, and cook them". Suddenly smoke came from Neville Longbottom's cauldron. "Longbottom, it seems you're useless at plant cooking. Ten points off Gryffindor House for ill-use of the cauldron", Professor Snape said angrily. "But I had the heat on too high, Professor Snape", Neville said.  "Really, Neville. It seems you need extra help before you can pass the class", he told him. Neville sighed, and resumed cooking the new crop of plants. He had the heat on low to medium. Once he mastered everything, he was fine for the rest of the morning.
"How was Potions, Potter. Did Professor Snape ruin your day?", Draco Malfoy asked. He laughed. "No, I leaned something, Malfoy. Obviously, you don't want to learn anything", Harry answered. He ate some cauldron cakes, as he was hungry. He thought of Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia feeding their overweight son, Dudley. He hated going back to number 4 Privet Drive in Surrey. Draco walked with Crabbe and Goyle back to the dark dungeons; Harry walked back to where the Fat Lady's framed picture was on the walls. "Password", she said politely. "Magic forests", Harry said. The door opened to the Gryffindor dormitory, as he studied his potions homework for the past two hours until Defence Against the Dark Arts class at two o'clock in the afternoon.
The teacher was Professor Gilderoy Lockhart. The self-important author grinned at everyone. "Welcome all. Today, in my class, we'll perform spells to prevent attacks from dark wizards. Harry Potter, pleasure to see you. You are the only wizard survive Who-Know-Who", he said. Harry glared at him. "Lord Voldemort, Sir", he was getting irritated by the teacher already. Lockhart, who wore a tan coloured robe, eyed Harry with concern. All of the other wizards gasped at the wizard's name was uttered. "As I was saying, I have some elves in the closet. If you will open it, you can make them disappear". He opened the door, and ten elves leapt onto the desks. "They're escaping", Hermoine yelled. In a matter of minutes, there was utter chaos. "Stun!", she shouted as she used her wand. Suddenly all of the elves were frozen. The wizards took the elves inside the dusty, ancient, closet. Then there was a loud banging sound, then everything was silent. "Well, that worked", Lockhart grinned. His ocean blue eyes moved from student to student, as he stared at the clock. "Practice all you've learned about elves for tomorrow's class. Everyone's dismissed!". And he strode out of the room, and headed down the thin hallway towards his own room.
"Lockhart was awful", Harry said. He saw Ron smiling at him. "Yeah, mate. He wrote six books on fighting all kinds of creatures", he said. "Did he? Really. I don't think so", Harry shook his head. Hermoine was with Cho Chang, a first-year Ravenclaw student. "Lockhart is a bad teacher", Cho said. Harry grinned at her. She blushed, as she dropped her book on magical theory by James Potter. "I'll get it for you, Cho", he said. Cho smiled. "Thank you, Harry", she said. And she walked with Hermoine to the South Tower where the other wizards met for afternoon tea.
