12. Chapter 11- Pancakes And Intruders

Sylvia’s POV

“So…” Brandon trailed.

“So?” I questioned while whipping a batter for a batch of pancakes. Brandon was sitting on the stool besides the table with his elbows on it and his face in his hands. I could see his muscles flex, making me drool inwardly, but I was trying very much for not looking affected with this and so far it was working.

He cleared his throat and asked, “How long has this been here?”

“A year.” I answered and turned to make pancakes.

“Oka… And what do you do here?”

“Well, it is my safe haven and I come here for some work.”

“Work as in?” Brandon questioned, no doubt remembering out conversation with Sammy.

“As in, just tech stuff.” I shrugged my shoulder. I don’t think that telling Brandon what I actually do here is good. I mean, he wouldn’t understand and I don’t want to put his life in any danger. Yeah, the work I do here is dangerous. With all the chemicals and heavy machinery, this is close to a nuclear bomb and due to my stupid knowledge some people want to misuse it in you know what, armaments and destructive stuff. I mean why? Why can’t we live peacefully? Why can’t we share our resources with everyone? Why the hell is it taking so long for our leaders to end poverty and hunger?

Brandon narrowed his eyes on me, probably irritated by my lack of answer, but he didn’t question me further, fully knowing that I will tell him in my own time.

“So, what made you bring me here?” he asked after a moment of silence in which I turned off the stove and served him pancakes.

“I actually don’t know. I guess I was tired being alone in this place. And I needed some help in shifting some stuff in my car, since we are going to your house tomorrow, I have to shift my lab there.” I said, looking around and mentally noting what all should I take.

“Well, I’m glad you brought me here. Now I will use this place for parties.” He smirked, fully knowing I will get mad at him.

“The hell you will. I ain’t giving you access to this place. Ever. I knew bringing you here was a mistake.” I yelled and he started laughing.

“Hahaha, the look on your face priceless.” He said between breaths and then I got an idea. I took one pancake and threw at him. It hit him in the face and he fell down the chair. Now it was my turn to laugh.

“Hahaha, Brandy. You should get a pancake facemask.” I said. It took him some time to get up from the ground, I don’t know why because I couldn’t see him from my side as I was sitting opposite of him. When he came up I laughed again and fell down too, holding my stomach.

He actually made a facemask out of it. He created some holes for the eyes and mouth and was now holding it in place with both of his hands. He was imitating some people and I was laughing very much at his failed attempts. And just like every thing has to come to an end, our laughter soon came to an end too when the front door started pounding and some voices screamed from outside, no doubt demanding to let them in.

I knew that this wasn’t Samuel because he had access to here. I also knew who were behind that door, my worst nightmare. Remember when I said people want me to build them some stuff, yeah this is what I meant by that. They were no doubt from a gang who needed something from me, but the most important question is how did they know where I am? When I drove here I made sure that I wasn’t followed.

There was heavy pounding and soon the sound of the gun hitting the wall, which won’t penetrate because I had installed bulletproof doors and walls. I knew a day like this will come.

“Sylvia, what is happening? Who is out there?” Brandon asked. I just took his hand and hid us behind the counter.

“Brandon, they are people who want to misuse my intelligence and my work. They are from a gang and they want me to make them destructive weapons. They have been following me for months now and I don’t know how did they found me here, but trust me and do exactly as I say, oka?” I asked. He nodded his head hesitantly. I breathed and opened a secret compartment under the counter. It had two buttons in it and I pressed both of them. One would signal Samuel that there is a problem here and one would open a secret door to the basement.

As soon as it opened I took Brandon’s hands in me and we made a run from it, not knowing what all weapons they had which would break down the door. There were another switch against the wall of the basement. I quickly switched it on all the while knowing that it would protect the house for much more time from the intruders. It deploys weapons above the front door, which weren’t lethal at all. I am and forever will be against violence, so I built non-lethal weapons such as tranquilizer darts and sleeping gas. My tranquilizer darts are much more advanced than the other. They keep you paralyzed until you inject another serum which negates it effects.

The basement held all of my plans, formulas and stuff I was working on.

“Brandon, pull the cover out of that thing please.” I rushed, collecting important and dangerous stuff. He complied and pulled the covers of my custom built car. Yes, I made it but this no time to brag. I checked the front door cams on the computer and saw that most of them were asleep by the tranquilizer darts and the sleeping gas, but they called for backup. I quickly armed my house by pushing some keys on my keyboard and locked down my room doors and windows. While, I was doing this, Brandon was checking out my car.

“I know but save the questions for later. We have to get away from here safely.”

I loaded the big jeep with the stuff I needed most and all the paperwork. Brandon helped too carrying the heavy stuff. In about 15 minutes we were loaded and ready to go. I looked again at the cameras and saw that they have successfully entered my place. I will miss this place, but I had no choice. Brandon took the driver seat because I knew his ability to drive faster than the speed of light. I know I am exaggerating but you get what I mean.

“Where too?” he asked when he buckled ourselves in.

“End of the tunnel. And Brandon, no speed limit.” I said and he grinned before slamming the accelerator and zooming to the end of the tunnel. I remember this one time when me, Daphne, Nathan and him were going to watch a movie together and we were running late by 15 minutes and the drive there was roughly 25 mins but of there was traffic then it would take 30 minutes. So, Brandon took over the driver seat and we drove as if hell got loose. While he was driving none of us felt aches in our backs or necks and he drove so well and threw roads we didn’t even know. He reached 5 mins early at the movie theater and thanked him a lot.

I installed halogen lights in this tunnel so we could see where we were going, also the headlights helped too. While he was driving I checked the cameras on the phone and saw that they also sent some of there members to my house. I did a good thing to protect it before they reached there because they were trying to break in it too. I then checked the main cameras of this place and they had found the underground basement, I don’t even know how. They moved as if they knew all about my place, like where was everything. But they did a mistake coming in my territory. I dropped the metal gates on the entrance of the tunnel and closed the basement door when all of them came in that, successfully trapping them. I deployed sleeping gas in it, so that when Samuel comes, it would be easier for him to capture everyone of them and torture them until they state their purpose of infiltrating my place.

Speak of the devil, he is calling my right now and I picked it up immediately.

“I saw everything. I am 15 minutes away. Be sure to be safe and text me when you are in the safe zone.” He ordered. Samuel is very weird. Sometimes, he acts like a kid, other times he acts like a mature leader. But I ain’t complaining since he knows when to play funny and when to be serious.

“Oka. And you take care of yourself too. Inject the people with the serum that I generated, who have been hit by the darts and wait 6 hours for all of them to wake up. Also, do me a favor, blow up my car and check Brandon’s too. Oh and people went to my home too, but you what will happen to them. Go to them when you are done with here.” I exclaimed.

“Oka. Be safe, kid.” He said and ended the call. I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I looked at Brandon and see that he wanted to ask many questions as he opened his mouth to say something but closed it.

“I had to blow up my car because I was suspicious that they might have put a tracker on it and yours too, but don’t worry I won’t order for it to blow up. And as I already told you that they were behind my work but they wouldn’t find one since we have them here.”

He nodded and asked another question which I knew I deflected successfully the first time but I don’t think I can deflect it now.

“What kind of work you do-did there?” he corrected himself.

I take a long breath, close my eyes and reply, “I am making a time machine.”
