2. Chapter 1- Accidents And Run-Ins

Brandon’s POV

“Ughh, who is it? And that too so early in the morning.”  I said, getting up from me comfy bed and putting the phone to my ear before checking the caller ID. I knew who it was. It could be only one person, calling me at this time in the morning.

“What the hell man? Where are you? We’ve been waiting forever.” Nathan, my best friend and a pain in my butt, shouted from the other side. Still very sleepy, I managed to ask, “What? What time is it?”

“It’s 1 freaking o’clock. Get your stupid ass here.”

“What?” I shouted, now fully awake. “No, no, no. Oh my god, I can’t believe I am going to be late again. I’ll be right there, dude.”

I quickly ended the call before he could say anything, which I knew were going to be a lot of incoherent words. I changed into a black and white tuxedo. I went to the bathroom to do my business. In a matter of 15 minutes I was ready to leave. I quickly ran my hands in my dirty blonde hair and ran towards my Rolls Royce.

Yes, Roll Royce. I was, kind of rich. Okay, well a lot rich. But it wasn’t my money, well it was but it wasn’t my timeline. I did have the same family but they were the richest in the world, unlike in my previous timeline. In my previous life, as you can call it, I was a normal boy, living in a small town in Canada with my parents and their best friend’s family.

They lived just in front of our house and we often had family dinners and by often I mean every day. Yeah, every day and I was sick of it. They had a daughter, Sylvia, my Sylvia. We were never on the best terms but we had to act like we were when in front of them. It was like living in a double life. Enemies by day, best friends by night.

I loved to annoy her and she loved the same. I don’t know why we started hating each other but I know when. It was after our 5TH grade dance, she was upset about something I did, even though I don’t know what.

I was driving to my best friend’s house, for the inauguration of his new business with his family. He opened a chemical factory. It is supposed to have all the new gadgets and technologies, imported from Japan, which will make healthy and organic products causing less pollution too.

I was driving very fast because I knew if I won’t reach there he would kill me. Just when I was passing a cross-road, I met with an accident. A truck hit my car and it turned and stopped upside down.

I was immediately rushed to the hospital. As I was on laid the stretcher and the nurses and doctors were rushing me to an operating room, I saw a glimpse of a girl. She looked a little like Sylvia. I wanted to get a good look on her again, but I had passed out.

I was in my bed and I could feel sunlight entering in the room from the window, by the warmth it possessed. I heard faint giggles in my room but was too tired to open my eyes. Just then a bucket of cold water was poured over my head and I woke up with a jolt.

I was expecting to see Sylvia with the- now empty- bucket and laughing hard, but instead I saw a dog which was probably licking my face as it was wet. It was a golden retriever but black in color. It had sparkling eyes.

Another dream of Sylvia being with me. It has been 5 months and I don’t know how much longer it will take for me to find her. I wanted her beside me, to hold her in my arms once again, to annoy her and in return getting smacked by her. I want to hear her sweet voice again.

I was snapped out of my thoughts of her by the barking dog. He looked very familiar and I guess he knew me too since he was too comfortable around me.

Just then I heard a commotion in the hallway outside my room. I couldn’t get up due to my fractures but I could faintly hear someone calling a name. “Alex?”  It said.

I could hear doors opening and closing until the person came into my room and my door flinged open. They saw the dog, which I’m assuming is Alex and he ran towards them. Then I focused my eyes on them and I was shocked. It was her. Finally, I found her.

Ember’s POV

Today was a very good day. The sun was shining very bright and birds were chirruping. I was going to the city hospital, where I volunteer sometimes, with my dog Alex. He has been acting a bit strange today. He is excited a lot. Must be something to do with his dog hormones.

I recently completed my school and from recently I mean yesterday. I am a free woman-girl now. The hospital was atleast a mile from my home, so I usually jog there and by doing so I exercise.

When I entered the hospital, it was crowded as every day. People were coming with injuries and diseases. Then there was the smell of antiseptics. I started working here at the age of 13 and it has been 9 years so I was pretty used to this environment. My father was once admitted here because he had some injuries while working in the chemical factory. He had a near death experience and since then I was motivated to help people.

I went to the vet doctor as always and handed him Alex, so he could take care of him. He had become a pretty good friend of mine, well everyone was. I don’t want to sound all braggy but I was loved by all. Perks of being an amazing cook, I guess.

Today was hectic, unlike other days. There was a boy who cleared his last day of chemo and we threw a party for him. He was very lucky. There was a girl who got well from her ulcers. Other than these two good news’, nothing came. When I was about to leave and ask Dr. Steve for Alex, he told me that he ran away and was now nowhere to be found.

I was very sad and little tears started coming into my eyes. Alex was my everything. He was there when my mom left us. He cared for me like a brother and when I had a very bad fever he was by my side. I was panicking and started running in the hospital.

I knew he wouldn’t go out, don’t ask me how but I just knew. I went from door to door, from floor to floor but he was nowhere to be found.

Just then I went to a room and there he was with a guy I recognized, but don’t know from where. Alex came running into my arms and I bent down to hug him. He licked my face and I scratched his ear.

I looked at the man again. He looked young, almost my age. He had dirty blonde hair which looked very soft and light brown eyes. He had perfectly tanned skin. He looked as if he had met with an awful accident. He had his legs lying in the air with the help of a machine which was touching the ceiling. We stared at each other until Alex barked and got us out of our trance.

“I-I want to apologies for Alex, sir.” I said, looking around and noticing the big room we were in.

“It’s oka, miss. He didn’t bother me at all. But I must say, he is a very good looking dog.” I chuckled a bit at his comment. I walked over to his bed and said, “Hi, I’m Ember.” I produced my hand and he shook it. I felt something weird at his touch. And I saw something too.

Ember’s vision.

“Haha, Brandon, look at your face. It looks so funny.” A girl said laughing and holding her stomach.

“Yeah, yeah it is very funny Sylvia. You are the master of all pranks.” The guy said in a mocking tone. He had flour all over his face from what seems like a gift box, which most likely had exploded in his hands. He ran towards her and she ran away from him. He was fast and caught up to her and grabbed her. They both fell down on the ground and Sylvia’s laughter had died.

They were looking into each other’s eyes intently and then Brandon put his face near hers and rubbed it against it to put flour on her face too. Now he was the one who was laughing hard.

“Ember, are you oka?” he asked and shook me out of my vision.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine.” I said and I looked at our hands which still didn’t leave each other’s embrace. “You were saying something?”

“Yeah, I said my name is Brandon and it is nice to meet you.” Wait, Brandon. The one from my vision. I couldn’t see the face clearly in my vision but his body structure looked familiar. If he was the same person then why did I get this vision? And who was that girl.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Brandon.” I ended the hand shake and nodded. He looked very familiar. I don’t know why. There was a feeling creeping inside me, I didn’t understand this feeling.
