Of the Healing Blood

When Anna was eight, she saw her best friend get eaten alive in the woods. It wasn't by a bear or anything else, just something sinister. Anna should've died as well-if not for Ky. Ky is two years older than her, and not human.

Suddenly, Anna is thrust into the world of demons and monsters, where everything is real, and make-believe exists.
There's one catch: Anna's blood can make anything heal instantly, which makes her a target for every demon known to man. And not only that, she doesn't belong to Ky, but to his older brother Shane.

6. Bad Ideas & Bad-Ass Birthdays

It was a bad idea to walk.

As I enter the hallways, my breathing has turned into a horrible pant, like I can't get enough oxygen. People look at me funny and walk around me, murmuring how I need to exercise more. I glare at them, but really how can I fault them?

It's not like they can see the several winged-bat demons clinging to my legs, or the monkey demons that have taken residence on my back, and pull at my hair. My friends are at the doorway of Computer Science class, and I lug myself towards them.

I've known Ophelia and her twin Orlain since we started this new high school together. For some reason, Jace no longer wanted to be friends with me.

His exact words were: "I don't know, but every time we talk or something, I feel like someone has walked on my grave."

After that, we never so much as said hello.

Ophelia is different from the backstabbers at this school; her hair for one is long, today separated into two long black braids that brush the lower of her back. She's soft-spoken, all that I've known her, and  I've never heard her yell. Ophelia is also very studious, half the time she's locked in her room with a thick textbook on her bed.

However, the only way to tell her apart from her identical twin is the glasses.

Orlain is the complete opposite. She's a fiery, passionate girl, with long black hair that she leaves loose. She's loud, and always causing trouble, half the time you'll find her in the principal's office. The only one that can actually make her see what she's doing is Ophelia.

As I walk up to them, I brush the bat-demons of, and throw the monkey demons to the walls. Feeling a million times lighter, I place an arm around each girls' shoulder.

    "Let the birthday celebration begin!"

The hours drift by very quickly. It's sixth hour, and it's free period for me. Orlain and I share this  class together, while her brainy twin is in Advanced Anatomy. I sit in the farthest part of the classroom, messaging my  cousins who are  in a different state.

Orlain, bored as always, elbows my shoulder.

"There's a rumor about you." she starts off, waiting for my reaction.

I roll my eyes, but look up; the exact response she wanted from me. Her green eyes sparkle, and she turns to face me, since she's sitting in front of me.

"Well, Seth Kenney,  the hot eleventh grader, was telling my hot eleventh grader boyfriend that he has a giant crush on you. And he knows that it's your birthday, so he's going to ask you out at the end of the day." she glances up at me from the inspection of her painted fingernails.

I almost don't know what to say.

  Oh, wait. Yes I do.

"Thanks for ruining my surprise, tonta.*" And just to make her mad, I go back to ignoring her.

Ah, Geometry. Fifty minutes of learning how letters and numbers can coexist together. I'm not bad at this class- I have an +A to be exact- but that's only because I have Ophelia to teach me in the right way of what  Mr. Benner trying to teach.

I don't have Orlain, or Ophelia in this class, which is probably a good thing, because I do have Seth Kenney in this one. He sits next to me in the back of the class.

Seth is cute; he's a dirty blonde  that he keeps spiked with gel. Big green eyes that almost resemble yellow, they crinkle at the edges when he smiles. He's not pale, but he's not tan either, and despite he's lanky stature, he's brawny.

   A bonus; he's smart too.

Seth smiles as he sits next to me, and his smile almost distracts me from the snake demon that's slithering near my foot. From the edge of my vision, I wait until it's near enough-and then I stomp on it, causing it to disappear.

Seth looks at me alarmed. "Spider." I say, shrugging one shoulder.

Mr. Benner clears his throat as he begins the lesson.

Seth, and I are mostly talking in whispers, his jokes causing me to laugh louder than I want to. I pretend it's a cough, but Mr. Benner knows my grade, so he doesn't get on to me.

The time actually goes by faster than I want it to, and seventh hour is over. I grab my notebooks, and my pencil, and get up. Seth's movements are slowed, probably waiting for me, and I can fell the blood rush to my head.

   I'm nervous.

We walk out together, passing by Ophelia, and a cocky Orlain. I wave at both of them, not bothering to stop by my locker because I don't have homework.

We make small talk, stopping at the school gates. I turn to face Seth, who suddenly looks very shy.

"Anna, would you like to date me?" he asks, staring at his shoes.

"I'd love to." I pluck his phone from his pocket, and put my number in. Handing it to him, I wink at him.

"Text me." I say, as I walk off.

I'm breathing hard again, and it's not because of the spider demon the size of a small dog that's crawling on my back. (Well, not mostly.)

     I have my first boyfriend!!!

This is something that I've had no practice in, and I have no idea what I'm doing.

      Maybe Orlain has some tips.

As I walk, I stop at the house, staring at the trees in the backyard. The flowers have bloomed, and I look around, wondering if this house is still alone.

Feeling bold, I flick the spider off, and wander to the side of the house. I expect the door gates to be chained lock, but the doors are  cracked opened. Curious, I open it, and wander in.

An old memory struggles to break free in my mind.

Not wanting to think about it, I stare at the trees amazed. What kind of flowers are these? Magnolia?

As I continue walking, something grabs my attention.

   Or rather someone.

He's grabbing a flower from a tree branch, staring at it with bright blue eyes. He has crow black hair that gets in his eyes a bit. He wears a light black leather jacket with dark jeans and black converse.

I'm not going to lie-he's really handsome.

Then his blue eyes flick to mine, and my heart stops.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone lived here." I stutter, taking a step back.

"I missed you too, Qinyang*." he says in a smooth sexy voice.

Confusion lights in my eyes, and I'm walking backwards, not looking at him anymore, when I feel strong arms encase around me from behind. Long slender hands cup my breasts, brushing the center of my bra.

"Are these breasts for me?" he whispers in my ear.

*^1. 'Tonta' means dummy girl, or stupid girl in Spanish.

*^2. 'Qinyang', pronounced 'cheen-yong' is a Chinese name that means 'Sunshine of my heart.'
