From Here to Infinity

Imagine a world where everything you see is mechanized and invented by extremely intelligent people from all around. A world with cities and wastelands as big as countries, buildings as high as you can see, huge hot air balloons, big gears wherever you look and an endless amount of factories. But also a world of inequality and manipulation. You can’t describe how big the gap is between the poor and the rich. Well, it’s a world where I live in, or rather travel in. A venture this world searching for something special. Something that is wanted by all the powerful people. The Infinity Core. A core that can power a device forever. It will never run out of power. It’s the perfect core. Most people think that it is just a myth, but I believe it’s true. I believe that the Infinity Core exists somewhere in this world. And I need it to fulfil my goal, my promise. My name is Clint and I will find the Infinity Core.

2. Viola

Clint was working on his invention and Viola was watching him. Suddenly he turned towards her.

“Why didn’t you go home like I told you yesterday?” he asked.

“I-I don’t have a place to call home…” she said sadly.

“What do you mean, don’t you have any parents?” he asked.

“I do, but I ran away from them.” She replied.

It surprised him, for a girl that young to run away from home.

“And what was the reason for that?” he asked.

“Papa has always been mean to me and mommy…” she said sadly.

Clint watched Viola as a tear rolled over her cheek.

“He… He killed mommy… Then I ran away and papa was shouting at me. I was so scared…” she said sobbing.

“Hey… Come here.” He said and hugged Viola who started crying.

“I miss mommy! I’m so scared!” she said crying.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” Clint responded holding her tight.

Viola looked up, tears still flowing down her cheeks. He looked at Viola.

“Let’s cheer you up a bit, yeah?” his smile warmed Viola’s heart.

She wiped her tears.

“All right, let’s go!” he said and grabbed Viola’s hand.

“W-Where are we going?” she said surprised.

“We’re getting you new clothes!” Clint replied laughing.

Viola smiled as one last tear dropped from her eyes. Not a tear from sadness, but from happiness.

Clint and Viola headed to Dawnhaven together. It was very crowded, but a magnificent city as always. Viola was so small, she could only look up to everyone while bumping into someone every now and then. Suddenly Clint grabbed her and placed her in his neck.

“I think it’s easier up here, isn’t it?” he said with a smile.

She could now see above everyone and saw the beauty of Dawnhaven at daylight. Her eyes widen, as the sun glanced her eyes.

“It’s beautiful!” she said.

Clint smiled and walked over the a cloth store. He put Viola back on the ground.

“Now let’s find you some new clothes.” He said and looked over to where he dropped off Viola, who was already standing in front of a little white dress.

“See something you like?” he asked.

Viola nodded enthusiastically and showed him the small white dress. Clint stroked his chin.

“Very well.” He said and walked over to the cashier.

“That will be 65 coins.” The cashier said.4

“65!?” Clint said shocked.

Viola looked worried into Clint’s eyes. Clint gave in and sighed. He left 65 coins on the counter and left the store.

“Now we need to get you some… Viola?” he said not knowing where Viola went.

He looked around and saw her standing in front of a shoe store. Clint sighed relieved and smiled.

“Looks like you already knew what I was gonna say, huh?” he asked.

“I want these!” She said pointing at a pair of white sandals.

“All right, all right.” Clint said walking in the store and buying the shoes.

Viola came happy and cheerful out of the store. Clint on the other hand looked rather gloomy.

“Why did she have to choose such expensive clothes…” he mumbled.

“I wanna sit in your neck again!” she said happy

“Yeah yeah and you can call me Clint.” he responded and put her in his neck.

Viola was once again looking around and didn’t hear what Clint said to her. Clint smiled as they went home.

Viola threw herself on the bed and sighed.

“I’m tired” she said.

“You barely walked.” Clint responded and placed her new clothes next to her.

“Here try them on.” He said.

“Yay!” Viola packed out her clothes and wanted to change, but then looked over to Clint, blushing and angry.

“Don’t lo-“ she said, but saw that Clint was already working on some invention.

She put on her clothes and walked over to Clint.

“H-How do I look?” she asked nervous, blushing a bit.

Clint turned towards her and saw her in her new white dress and sandals. Her blonde hair waved with the small breeze that entered the house.

“You look cute.” He said and smiled.

Viola blushed even harder and looked away.

“T-Thank you…” she said quietly.

She looked back and saw Clint want already working on his invention again. She leaped onto his back, which surprised him.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“I’m making an Extended Noise Generator.” He said.

“What’s that?” she asked.

Suddenly, Clint felt a tingle in his stomach and smiled. So this machine can create and alter sounds, the human ear cannot even detect… He explained everything in detail and Viola listened carefully. She was fascinated by Clint and she too felt something.

“You’re so cool!” she said.

“Ah come on, it’s nothing really.” He said, but felt proud of himself to finally get some recognition.

“When I grow up, I wanna be just like you!” she said determined.

They both laughed and so the day passed. It was evening and the sun was setting.

“Hey Viola.” Clint asked.

Viola was playing with some random scraps, trying to invent something herself. It didn’t look like anything to be fair. She looked up.

“Yes?” she responded.

“I wanna show you something.” Clint said and signed her to follow him.

Viola got up and followed Clint to the gate of Tinkerwall. He looked at her and grabbed her by the hand. They walked outside of the small gate and were outside the walls of Automadrift. Automadrift was everything within the walls, with Dawnhaven as the main city.

They looked upon the endless wasteland, with the sun setting. Clint grabbed Viola and put her in his neck. He walked up a small hill and now they had a perfect view over the wasteland and the sunset. Viola’s eyes widen when she saw the view, even Clint was taken by the view.

“I love you, papa!” Viola said with a big smile, still looking at the sunset.

Clint’s eyes widen and felt a small rush, but then he smiled.

“Say, Viola.” He started.

“Hm?” she responded.

“Wanna be my apprentice? I’ll teach you how to be such a cool inventor as myself.” He said with a smile.

Viola’s eyes twinkled.

“Yes!!” she replied.

And so, they both watched as the sun sets.
