*A Selena Gomez twin story*

3. Sister-bonding-day

When I wake up the following morning I’m slightly disorientated. However, when I see Selena sleeping on the bed beside me everything from the previous night comes rushing back all at once, leaving me with a heavy headache.

I get up off the bed and walk into the bathroom, locking the door behind me. I look at myself in the mirror and wince. I, truly, look like shit. My cheeks are stiff with old tears, my eyes are red and puffy, and I, of course, still have bags under my eyes, which is slowly turning more and more black as the nights proceed. I sigh and look through the bathroom cabinets. I find a big, fluffy white towel and turn on the shower. I undress and step into the warm, soothing water. I feel my muscles relax and I sigh in relief. I wash my hair with Selena’s strawberry shampoo and conditioner with a small smile playing on my lips as the calming aroma fills up the room. Stepping out of the shower I dry off and put on a simple loose shirt and ripped, faded jeans. I look in the mirror and sigh. I shake my head to loosen up my hair and leave it at that. It’ll look as it always looks. I apply a little mascara, put on some lip-gloss and close the bathroom door behind me.

“Good morning,” I say to Selena as I see her sitting on the bed rubbing her eyes.

“’Morning,” she smiles and yawns, “I had the weirdest dream.” I raise an eyebrow at her.

“Oh, really?” She nods.

“Yeah. Demi, you and I were sitting in my room and talking and crying about you being bullied, and I confessed that I… I confessed something and then I woke up. What happened last night?” I raise both my eyebrows in shock before relaxing with a small smile on my face.

"Well, when Demi came to visit I pretended to be you and we just ended up talking and getting to know each other all day. Why - don't you remember?" I add, actually feeling a little hurt.

"I'm sorry Rebecca. I have this thing where I sometimes can't really remember what happened the day before. My short-term memory is really bad," she answers, apologizingly. Hmm, I can use this to my advantage. No. I'm only going to use her this one time.

Her tired eyes travel over my clothes as if seeing me for the first time and she makes a ‘tsk’ sound, “I need to take you shopping.”

My eyes widen and I shake my head, “No! No, it’s alright. There’s no need for that,” I say.

“Nonsense. I’m taking you to the mall, get you some new feminineclothes no questions asked.” With that she gets up from the bed and close the bathroom door shut behind her just like I did moments ago. I’m left with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach for two reasons. One, I really don’t like shopping, and two, I don’t really fancy the idea of going out in public with Selena of all people given her status and fame. I take a deep breath and it back down on the bed. I take the time to actually look around the room; my eyes catch the suitcase carelessly thrown in the corner of the medium sized room and sigh, the sinking feeling never leaving. That’s right, Selena lives in LA; she’s going to leave me like everyone else. I tear my eyes away from the scattered clothes when the bathroom door opens once again and Selena walks in with such confidence I envy. I take in her appearance and feel the familiar stinging of jealousy. Generally, I feel very down and insecure right now.

“You just go downstairs and get something to eat. I’ll join you in a moment.” I simply nod, walk down the stairs and into the kitchen. Amanda is by the stove cooking up something that makes my insides churn. She greets me and places a plate in front of me urging me to eat the food. I don’t. I just stare at it until Selena walks into the kitchen. She greets her mother and kisses her on the cheek. She snatches an apple from the bowl and grabs my wrist in her other hand, forcing me with her. She shouts a farewell to her mother over her shoulder and shuts the front door behind us.

“Are you always so… energetic in the morning?” I ask with lack of a better word. Selena starts the engine of her car and rolls her eyes at my question with a smile playing on her lips.

“Usually only when I have to go to work, never when I’m home.” I smile a little at her use of home. I like the idea of her calling her mother’s home her own home instead of whatever she lives in in LA. It leaves a somewhat comforting feeling in me, that I’ll get to see her when she leaves.

The car ride to the mall was filled with meaningless conversation. Selena parks the car relatively close to the entrance and shuts off the engine. She searches through her bag for a few seconds before presenting me with a pair of expensive sunglasses. I give her a weird look. There is no sun out right now so why would I need sunglasses?

“Trust me, you will need them.” I just shrug and plant them on the bridge of my nose, shielding my eyes from the light. Selena removes her own sunglasses from the top of her head and put them on as well. We exit the car and walk towards the entrance side by side. It’s not that crowded as it’s around noon on an ordinary school day.

I thought I was prepared for the worst when I stepped into the mall, but it turns out that I had absolutely no idea of what was waiting for us on the other side. Almost instantly we’re approached by multiple people with microphones and big cameras. It’s as if they expected us to be here like it’s normal for celebrities to just waltz into the mall as any given time. Although, it may have something to do with the fact that everyone knows Selena is visiting her hometown.

I’m snapped out of my thoughts when Selena grabs my hand and pulls me along with her as she maneuvers her way past the paparazzies like an expert. Surely, she has done this quite of few times in her life. Selena hurries us into a store I don’t know the name off and takes off her sunglasses. The employees rushes to close and secure the door so we have the store for ourselves while we are here. I take of my sunglasses, too, and cringe at the astounded looks on the staffs’ faces when they see me beside Selena. I guess that’s a reaction I’ll have to get used to.

“Miss Gomez, we are delighted to see you return. How may we be of assistance?” A employee, the boss I assume, comes up to us with a very wide, very fake smile. Surely, she could think of other places she would rather want to be than at work right now.

“I want my friend measured so you can find her a new wardrobe,” Selena says with her signature smile looking ready for business. The smile on the boss’ face fades a little before she could catch herself and nod.

“We will get right on it,” she says and motions me to follow her, “Please, have a seat, Miss Gomez.” I look back at Selena with a panicking look in my eyes but I only receive a reassuring stare. I may be exaggerating, but the next three and a half hours were pure torture for me. They measured me and thankfully I didn’t have to strip my clothes for her to do that, but I still caught the look in her eyes and her face when she measured me around the waist and hips and so on. Fortunate for me, she’s too polite or scared to lose her job to give any comment on in as she proceeded her work.

Selena and I walked out of the store empty handed which was a weird feeling because I know Selena spend a lot of money on a lot of clothes to me. It’s being delivered to her home and put in the room I apparently have so it’s all good. Except I don’t like the idea that Selena used so much money on my behave. It gives me an uneasy feeling.

“Selena, you really need to let me pay at least some of all that,” I say as we leave the store, our sunglasses once again perched on the bridge of our noses. I stop dead in my track, however, when I see the how many people have turned up in the mall over the last few hours.

“Rebecca? Are you even listening?” I snap out of my daze and glance over at Selena who’s giving me a look that says she’s both annoyed and worried about me. Mostly the former, though, her sunglasses abandoned on the top of her head.

“Sorry, sorry,” I mumble and pick up my pace so I’m walking alongside her. Selena throws herself into an elaborate explanation about something I forget to listen to as I walk with my head down, lost in my own train of thoughts. Maybe I’m being paranoid but it’s like I can feel so many eyes directed towards me and I don’t like. My hands get clammy, my legs feel like jelly and I feel slightly lightheaded. I don’t realize that I’ve lost Selena until I’m hit by a sudden force that my legs finally give out from under me and I fall to the floor.

“I’m so sorry, love. Here, let me help you up,” a voice with a wonderful British accent says to me and an outstretched hand falls into my line of vision. I follow the hand, up the person’s arm until my eyes lock on a pair of sunglasses similar to the ones I’m wearing. Wary, I place my hand in his and he helps me off the floor.

“Thanks,” I reply, my voice hardly above a whisper. Selena suddenly pops up beside me with an apologetic look on her face.

“I’m sorry, Rebecca, I was signing some stuff.” I simply shrug as if saying it doesn’t matter to me. Her eyes drifts to the man in front of me and then down to our hands. I realize that he’s still holding on the my hand. I quickly take my hand out of his while I’m blushing furiously.

"We should get going," Selena says, still looking at the boy as if she knows him from somewhere. I nod in agreement. I'm so exhausted.

Selena and I start walking away when the man calls out for me.

"Hey, hey, wait!" He says. "Can I at least get your number?" He asks as I turn around. I look at Selena for help because she knows I don’t have a phone, her sunglasses once again hiding her eyes. She holds up a finger and rummaged through her bag. She takes out a paper and a pen and writes something on the paper. She hands it to me and I read what she has written; a row of numbers I don’t recognize. I give it to him without a word and just as I’m about the turn around to walk away with Selena, he’s quick to kiss my cheek. My mouth drops slightly and he smiles at me. I blush furiously once again and quickly exit the mall, Selena hot in my trail. We get in the car and the first thing we do are taking off out sunglasses. Selena pulls out a rectangular box from her bag as well and hands it over to me. I look at her confused but she just urges me to open it. I tear off the paper to see the image of the newest iPhone smiling back at me.

“Selena, I-“ I want to tell her I can’t possibly accept it, but she doesn’t give me much of a choice.

“No, stop. I bought this for you because I want to and because you need one. Obviously,” she says and winks at me in the end. I blush and look away from her.

“Well what are you waiting for, open it!” I do exactly that and soon I’m holding a large, white phone in my hand. It feels so light and fragile that I’m almost afraid of touching it. I turn it on and I’m welcomed by a text message from an unknown number. Wow, it’s already set up?

“The number you gave him…” I trail off.

“… is yours, yes,” she finishes with a smirk on her face. I’m speechless; there are no other way to describe it. My new phone gives off a sound and I look at the new message.

“And not too early might I add,” Selena comments. I blush and open up the text.

“Hello love it was nice meeting you” - Louis

I smile and blush a little at the use of ‘love’, I like it.

“Hi Louis it was nice meeting you too and even though I couldn't see your face it was nice- Becca

“Ooh, look at you impersonating a tomato.” Selena’s comment makes me blush even more and I let my hair fall to hide my red face. Selena laughs as she drives towards home. On the journey home and in the evening she continues to tease me about Louis. But I don’t care because I’m texting him the entire time.

When I finally go to bed it’s the first time in a long time that I don’t cry myself to sleep.

But it doesn’t take my nightmares away.

The next morning I’m awakened by a constant buzzing on my nightstand. I open my eyes to the bright lights coming from my phone. What? I think for myself with furrowed eyebrows as I sit up in my bed. I look at the caller ID and I see a name that instantly brings a smile upon my lips. Without much thinking I hit the green bottom.

"Um – Hi," I say into the phone.

"Good morning love!" An enthusiastic voice sounds through the phone speakers.

"What's up Lou?"

"Oh, you know – the sky," Louis answers

"You don't say,” I roll my eyes, “Seriously, what's up?" I ask.

"Oh, um… I was wondering if you maybe want to hang out with me today?" He asks. Oh. My. Gosh. He wants to hang out with me? What do I say? Should I say yes? Should I say no? Oh, it’s so exciting!

"Um – I-I – S-sure!" I stutter. Okay, I stutter when I'm nervous, scared or anything else really, I think we’ve already established that. I sigh internally.

"Awesome. If you give me your address I'll be there in an hour. See you soon, love."

"Okay Louis see you soon," I answer, hanging up the phone and smiling like an idiot. I squeal and get out of my bed while running to my bathroom.

I got my own room yesterday and it’s really nice. It’s a little bare, but Selena said she’ll help me fix that. I don’t like that she is willing to spend so much money on me, but a lot of times she doesn’t even give me a choice.

I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time, but I'm sure there will be something that’ll bring me down again.

For example, Louis told me yesterday that he’s a member of One Direction. He's famous and can get anyone or anything he wants. Why on earth would he choose someone like me when he can go and get himself someone that’s not bursting at the seams with flaw?

Plus, all this with Selena and me being identical twin is a real complication. How is she going to explain that she has been seen with a girl that looks like her with and without sunglasses? I know that if she announces me to the world I will get even more hate. This time from people I don't know, and I just know that I’ll not be able to handle it.

Just as I step out of the bathroom there’s a knock on the door. I yell 'come in' and Selena Gomez pops in.

"What's up babe?" I ask her as I walk into my wardrobe trying to find something cute for my date. Can I call it a date?

"You are going on a hot date!" She exclaims, looking at me from the doorway of my wardrobe. I stop dead in my tracks. Maybe I cancall it a date.

"W-what do you mean?" I ask her, fully aware of what she means.

"Oh, you know exactly what I mean – you’re going out with Louis!"

"Wait, how do you even know that?" I ask amazed and confused. Selena blushes.

"I-I… Um – I kind of know Louis and the rest of One Direction. I've known them in secret for the past two years," she mumbles the last bit in hope I don’t hear her.

But I do.

"Oh. My. Gosh!" I almost scream. "Are you freaking kidding me?" I shout, smiling like a crazy person. This is so weird, terrifying, and amazing at the same time.

"No! And I have a soft spot for Harry," she admits and blushes a bright red.

"Oh, my, that's so cute." I aw, making her blush even more if that's possible. I run over to hug her.

"We haveto make it a double date. That way we can make an appearance as the sexy twins to see if they actually know you as well as they think they do," I say, winking at her, forgetting everything about my insecurities and shyness but the thoughts from earlier is still haunting me.

"Yes, totally babe, I'll call Harry up right away," she says, running to her room, getting her phone. As she does that I look through my clothes. I choose a cute turquoise dress with white lace on the bottom that went around mid-thigh. I pick out a pair of black high heels and put them on with a cute, white cardigan on top of my dress. I feel like my insecurities are washing away slowly; still there, pushing me down, but slowly disappearing.

A few minutes later Selena walks in with an outfit similar to mine. Her dress was just a dark blue instead with simple white ballerinas instead of heels, making me slightly taller than her now.

"Wow. This is creepy," I say, looking at her.

"Agreed," she says, smiling at me. I smile back.

"This is going to be so cool," we say in unison. Then there’s a knock on the front door.

We both walk down the stairs and we decide I should open the door like I did the other day. I open the door to see Harry and Louis.

"Hey boys," I say smiling at them, talking like Selena does.

"Hi Selena," they both say while hugging me.

"So, I was told to pick up someone here, do you know who that is?" Louis ask, looking down at me. Oh, this is too good.

"Yeah sure, Lou. Babe, come on down here," I shout, giggling a little. As Selena comes walking down the stairs both boys' jaws drop to the floor as they look from her to me. Me to her. And again, and again. Selena and I just laugh and high-five each other. The reactions will never get old.

"Boys, meet my lovely big sister Rebecca. She's your date Louis," Selena says, pointing to me.

"But… - How?" Louis asks, looking at me.

"I'm her twin sister. I came here the day before yesterday and Selena and I bonded immediately. Well almost immediately," I explain giggling a little.

"Harry!" Selena clap her hands in front of Harry's face, whom was still in shock.

He snaps out of it and asks, "How can we see the difference between you two?" That’s a tough question as we don't really know.

"Um I don't really know. Do you Becca?" Selena asks, looking at me.

Hmm… I look down at my hand. Oh, yeah, that’s right!

"I know how! Look at my hand." I show them my hand. On my pointing finger is a tattoo I totally forgot I had gotten. "I have a tattoo on my pointing finger. I totally forgot about that thing," I say showing them my finger.

"How come I didn't know that?" Selena asks, looking a little hurt. Oh no.

"Um… I find it a little embarrassing to talk about.” I look down at it.

"Why?" Louis asks.

"Because it's RLG. It stands for Rebecca Louise Gomez. Let's just say I was a huge fan of Selena before I met her, and I still am, so because I’ve never had an actual last name I chose this," I answer, my voice ending out in just above a whisper. I'm not sure they even heard me but then I hear sniffing beside me. "Now it's just a little weird because my name actually is Rebecca Louise Gomez."

"That's so sweet! Now let's go," Selena giggles, hugging me before walking up to Harry.

"Ready to go love?" Louis asks, offering me his hand. I take it in mine and we all walk out the front door together.
