8. Abandoned building

He has Vanessa. Poor, little, innocent Vanessa is trapped with that monster!

I quickly stand up from the floor I somehow ended up on, making Selena fall backwards on her bum. I barely notice her there, but from the  corner of my eyes I see her reading over the note.

I start pacing around in the kitchen, thinking of what I should do. Should I meet him there and risk Vanessa’s life and my own life? Should I not meet him there? I don't know what he could do. He could rape her, kill her or both.

I shuddered at the thought.

If he has Vanessa then he took her yesterday after I left, and he saw her with me which can only mean one thing; he's here, in LA!

The thought makes my blood run cold and I stop dead in my track. The tears run faster down my face as I take my phone out of my pocket and dial her number.

With shaking hand, I hold the phone up to my ear. I watch Selena opposite of me as the phone rings and rings. Finally, someone picks up. However, it’s not the person I want it to be.

"Hello, sweetheart," his voice makes it run cold down my back. I squeeze my eyes shut as I answer.

"Aiden," I say, trembling. Selena quickly stands in front of me, holding my free hand in hers. I get goosebumps as he chuckles, but not in a good way.

Before he can say anything else, I hang up the phone and throws it across the kitchen. Sadly, it doesn’t break as I had intended for it to do. I’m sad, angry, scared,, and nervous all at the same time. The tears hasn’t stopped.

"I can't believe it. He's back Selena. He’s back," I say over and over again while Selena tries to calm me down.

"Who's back?" Selena asks softly, taking both of my hands in hers.

I look at her and whisper, "Aiden, Selena. And he has Vanessa."

"Who's Vanessa?" Selena asks, trying to change the subject.

"She's the friend I met the other day. She’s my hairdresser. She's really sweet," I say looking at the wall in front of me at the other end of the kitchen.

"Oh yeah, I see you have got highlights. It's nice," Selena compliments trying to take my mind off of what’s happening right now. It’s not working.

"Th-th-a-thanks," I say anyway through hiccups and sniffs. She smiles at me and I tries to smile back at her, however it’s nowhere near genuine.

Selena sighs, "Come on Becca. Let's get you cleaned up and we’ll watch a movie in your room. How does that sound?" She says while already leading me towards my room and into my bathroom.

We end up on my bed with ice cream and tissues to watch the notebook. No matter what it can’t seem to take my mind off of the issue at hand.

It's 11:50 am and I'm sitting in my car outside of the address Aiden sent me. It looks like a rundown, abandoned hotel and I'm not sure if I want to go in there. It could easily be a trap.

For seven minutes I sit and think. I think about all the different things that could happen and then slowly back out of the parking lot. I know Aiden and I know what he’s capable of.

I feel like a chicken, a heartless chicken. I just can’t get myself to do it. I'm selfish, terrified and stupid.

I drive home and walk into the house as soon as I get there, terrified of someone following me. On the couch in the living room is Selena and she jumps up as soon as she hears me coming.

"Where have you been?" She asks with a worried expression on her face. I furrow my eyebrows and frown.

"Um… out," I simply answer, however, she doesn't look the slightest bit convinced.

"But Becca, you're crying," she says still obviously concerned. What? Am I crying? I touch my cheek and sure enough, I’m indeed crying, again. I groan and wipe them away quickly.

"I'm fine. I'm fine," I say and smile, yet another one of the fake ones. Selena gasps.

"You didn't go see Aiden did you? Please say you didn't!" She pleads. When I don't answer, she hugs me tightly and wipes my tears away.

"Selena I couldn't do it. I feel like such a bad person for not at least trying to save her," I admit, my voice cracking.

"It's not your fault Aiden is messed up." I can't help but laugh a little through the tears. "Why don't we call the police and get all this sorted out, huh?" Selena says, pulling away from the hug.

I’m quick to start shaking my head, "No, Selena, I have to make him give me another chance. I can't let him do to Vanessa what he did to me," I say and immediately regret it, when Selena looks at me in confusion.

"What did he do to you Rebecca?" Selena asks cautiously, like she doesn’t really want to know the answer. I immediately shake my head and start stuttering.

"No-nothing!" I say a little too quickly. Selena looks at me with a hurt expression.

"Please, Becca, just tell me. Please," she says, almost pleadingly.

I shake my head, "No! It's none of your business, just- leave me alone" I don't mean to sneer at her, but it’s not something I’m willing to share with her. I will probably tell her when I'm ready for it and at the right time, but now is not that time. I just shake my head and walk away before I can see her expression.

I walk up to my room and lock the door. I walk over to the window seat and look out over the neighborhood. I don't realize I’m crying before I see my reflection in the window. I furiously wipe the tears away, but they’re simply quickly replaced by new tears. Before I know it, I’m sobbing.

I feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket, letting me know I’m receiving a phone call. I pick up the call without looking at the ID-caller.

"Hello," I say, totally sounding like I’m crying. Damn. I clean my throat.

"Hi Rebecca, are you okay?” Oh, just great - just fucking great!

“Um, yeah, Louis, I-I'm fine," I stutter and groan internally. Of all the times you could call me you call me when I'm at my worse? Amazing timing.

"I don't believe you," he says stubbornly. I feel unnecessary anger bubble inside of me.

"I'm fine!" I snap and furiously wipe my tears away once again.

"Sorry," he says quietly. I immediately feel bad.

"I-I'm sorry. It's just I had an argument with Selena over some stupid thing, and I'm just really sad," I say, my voice cracking a little. I clean my throat again.

"I'm sorry to hear that Becca, just come to me if you wanna talk about anything, okay?" Louis says. I nod but then remember that he can't see me.

"Yeah, thanks Lou, means a lot," I say and smile a little to myself, "Anyway, why did you call?" I ask, changing the subject.

"Oh, I just wanted to talk to you. I mean, I haven't talked to you since last week," he states. Wow, has it already been a week? It seems much shorter…

"Oh okay, that's nice of you," I say. Things just got awkward.

"Yeah," is Louis' responds. Oh my god, this is so awkward!

"It's nice and all, Louis, but I have to go. I'll talk to you later, okay? Okay, bye," I say, hanging up the phone before he can say anything else. I toss my phone on my bed and fall down beside it, folding my arms over my eyes. I let out a deep sigh and groan.

"You didn't come yesterday."

"Aiden, please let me speak to her!"

"And why would I do that?" Aiden asks with a smirk evident in his voice.

"I-I have to make s-sure she's still a-alive." Damn. I'm so nervous and scared, that I’m stuttering. I hear a deep chuckle from the other end and it gives me the creeps.

"Alright then." There’s a rustle but soon enough I hear her voice.

"Rebecca?" She says just above a whisper. Her voice is low and weak.

"Vanessa! Thank god. Are you okay?"

"Y-yeah. I-I'm fine," she says obviously scared shitless. I know how she feels. She doesn't know who Aiden is. He has obviously done something to her.

"Vanessa listen. I know you're scared - believe me I am, too - but I'm trying to get to you okay?" I hear her small voice say an 'okay', but before I know it, the call gets disconnected.

"Vanessa? Vanessa!" I sigh and lean up against the kitchen island. I put my head in my hands and let a few tears fall. She's my only friend apart from my sister. I'm still a little hesitant on the friend thing because Selena warned me, and Vanessa could easily only want to be with me because my sister is famous. I don't know, but I have to get to her either way.

I walk into the living room and turn on the television. It's 4 pm and I haven't seen Selena all day. I know she has had a lot on her agenda recently, but I know today is her only day off in a month. She has really been looking forward to just relaxing at home.

"One of the famous Gomez-twins were seen earlier today. She was walking out of the big villa and towards one of the many fancy cars. The paparazzi followed her to the outskirts of LA and onto a dirt road," the interviewer lady says as a video is being shown beside her. Selena has sunglasses on and her hair is up in a bun so you can't see if she has short hair or long hair. Is she doing what I think she's doing?

"She stopped outside what looks like an abandoned, rundown hotel. She waited for a few minutes before walking in. We haven't seen the sister since. Tune in later to see more of this Gomez mystery," the lady finishes and it cuts to commercials.

"What the hell are you doing Selena?!" I scream and hurries to my phone. I look for earlier messages and phone calls and see that Aiden called me at 10 am this morning. Selena must have answered that call. Oh my gosh she's so stupid! I'm furious but really sad at the same time. She's surely with him right now.

But wait.

If Selena was there when I called earlier, that means he knows it's not me!

Oh no.

He knows it's my sister, and he knows I'm going to come get her. I feel the tears pool in my eyes but I’m quick to blink them away.

Okay, there's no reason to cry.

I have to do something. I wipe my tears away and take the keys to one of her cars. I walk towards the door but stop when I see my reflection in the mirror. I look horrible but there's no time to try and look decent.

I walk out the front door and I’m instantly blinded. There are flashes and cameras everywhere. Suddenly, I wish that I had made some sort of an effort to look good or at least put on my sunglasses. I try to walk through the blinding people but it’s hard. They are throwing question after question at me. One of them even asks me why I’m looking so horrible.

Gee, thanks.

I’m wearing a purple sweatshirt and black leggings, but my eyes, cheeks, and nose are slightly red, my hair is in a messy bun like Selena's except mine's smaller because of the lack of hair, and I had my glasses on instead of my contacts, which is something I'm sure to regret later.

I finally manage to get through the paparazzi and I run to one of Selena's many cars. It doesn't make sense to me as to why all of them are out here in the giant parking lot and not in her giant garage, but nothing really makes sense at the moment.

I reverse out of the driveway and drive towards the outskirts of LA. The paparazzi’s are following me but it's not like I can do anything about it. They know where I'm going even if they don't know it yet.

I drive down the familiar dirt road towards the infamous abandoned house, the paparazzi still following me. They’re surely videotaping this. Their headline is probably going to be something like; "Both Gomez-twins entering an abandoned house, not seen again." The whole world’s going nuts.

I park beside the car Selena came in and take a deep breath. I can do this, I can do this, I think to myself over and over again like a mantra as I walk towards the building. It's really tempting to just run away like a coward like last time, but I have to do this. If not for myself then for my sister and Vanessa. Either I'm getting Aiden out of my life for good, or I'll get us all killed.

No pressure there.

The house looks like it’s about to crash any minute. The roof is sunken, the wood rotting, all the windows are smashed, and the door is missing.

I slowly walk inside the house, praying to god that none of the paparazzi are stupid enough to follow me. That would be bad in so many ways.

So far, so good. I slowly walk through the death trap of a house as quiet as a mouse. My courage is close to none existing, but I keep going anyway.

I jump slightly at a noise from behind me and I freeze in my track. I slowly turn around but I don’t see anything. I shake my head and just as I’m about to turn around once again there’s a voice from behind me. I freeze once again.

"Well, well, well. Who do we have here?"

My blood run cold.
