I Shall Be Queen

Jessica Frost has turned into an immortal villian, and her adventures are slowly goring dangerously intense.

Author's note

I accidentally deleted the last one so here's the sequel again.

17. Coming Back

Jessica went back down into the Underworld.  When she went to the throne room, Daniel was sitting on his throne. He looked up and when he saw her, he didn’t smile.

“Hey, Jess,” he said gruffly. He didn’t look happy.

“Hey, Daniel,” she greeted. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know. I just feel really irritated right now.”

“What’s irritating you?”

“Everything. Even your voice, which is always so pretty and even, sounds like grinding in my ears.”

“Do you have a headache or something at all?”

“Yeah. My head’s pounding. It’s annoying.”

Daniel looked away, saying, “My head’s really hurting.”

Jessica went up to him and sat down beside him. She simply stared at him for awhile until he looked at her.

“Go to sleep, then.”

Daniel shook his head, wincing as he put a hand to his head. The pounding grew louder to him.

“Daniel, if you don’t, you’ll just get worse.”

He shook his head again.

Jessica sighed. “All right. I can’t make you. But I’ll warn you, it will get worse.”

They stared out at the souls milling around. Then Daniel said, “Want to walk around?”

“Sure,” Jessica said. Daniel got up and held out his hand to his queen, who took it.

Hand in hand, they walked along the underworld’s paths, wandering without thinking.

Then Daniel took Jessica to a cliff and held her hand. The cliff radiated light. Jessica looked down and saw blackness at the bottom of the cliff.

Meanwhile, in Arendelle, the party had ended. Ethan was playing with his blocks. Jack began to feel dizzy and whispered to Elsa, “I’m feeling a bit dizzy. I’m going to leave.”

“I’ll go with you,” she replied.

“I want you to make sure nothing goes wrong,” he told her.

“I’m coming with you,” Elsa said. “I’m going to make sure nothing goes wrong with you.”

“What do you mean?”

“Jack, you look really pale, like you’re about to black out. Come on,” Elsa said as she led Jack to a chair and made him sit down.

“You’re going to let me take care of you,” Elsa said, crossing her arms.

Jack sighed and stared into her eyes. “If you say so.”

“I say so.”

“Elsa, I need to rest. You said it yourself. I look like I’m about to faint because I’m about to faint in real life.”

“You’re that dizzy?”

Elsa sighed and said, “I’ll tell Ethan you weren’t feeling well, and then if anyone asks, I’ll tell them the same.”

Jack smiled weakly. “Thanks, Elsa.”

“Now go. I don’t want you to end up more sick than you are now.”

Jack left the room. Elsa told Ethan, and Ethan said, “Daddy’s going to be okay, right?”

“Yes, he’ll be fine. He just had a dizzy spell, that’s all. He wasn’t feeling good. You’ll see him later, okay?”

Ethan nodded and kept playing with the other princes. Elsa remembered what Jack said right after Jess left.

“I have a feeling that something’s going to happen. Something bad.”

What if that was why he was dizzy? What if…

She ran out of the room and ran to Jack. She knocked and heard Jack call out weakly, “Who is it?”

“It’s me. I need to talk to you.”

“Come in.”

Elsa went in and closed the door behind her. Jack was lying on the bed, fully dressed, watching her. He looked weak.

“I’ve been thinking about what you said earlier, about a bad feeling you had.”

“Yeah. It had to do with Jessica and Daniel.”

“What?! Why didn’t you tell me that earlier?”

“I didn’t want you to worry, Elsa. I knew you’d act like this!”

“Jack, our daughter’s life is at stake!”

“Elsa, it’s just a bad feeling. It doesn’t mean that she’s really in danger.”

They were both silent, waiting for the other to speak. Then Jack finally spoke.

“Once I feel better, I’ll check up on her. How’s that?”

Elsa gasped with memory. She went to a drawer and pulled it open, bringing out the mirror.

Jack stared at her for a second, and said to her, “I didn’t think of that.”

Elsa then said to the mirror, “Show me Jessica.”

The mirror lit up and showed Daniel and Jessica standing at the top of a cliff that radiated light.

“You know why I married you?” Daniel asked.

“Because I knew that you were the one for me.”

Jessica glanced at him.

“But I can’t look at you without feeling pain.”

She was confused.

“I’m sorry,” he said.

With that, he pushed her off the cliff.

Jessica lost her balance and fell. As she fell, no sound escaped her. She landed hard. Looking up at Daniel, she could just see his face. It was full of sadness and despair.

He then left the cliff as Jessica called out weakly, “Daniel?”

She tried to get up, but failed. Then she whispered, “I love him, and he does this to me.”

Elsa was shocked. Her daughter was weakened, something Jack had never thought possible.

Then Jessica slowly got to her feet. She’d gotten a couple bruises from her fall. She had a cut on her right arm.

She looked up and began trying to climb the cliff. But Jessica had never truly learned how to climb, so she ended up falling. She got up again and tried a few more attempts. She failed every time.

Then Elsa gave the mirror to Jack. Jack was so shocked he dropped the mirror. It landed beside him on the mattress.

Elsa said, “I want to help her, but I’m up here, and she’s down there, in the Underworld.”

Jack watched Jessica attempt to climb the wall once again, and fail again.

“How can we save her?” he asked. He put the mirror down on the bedside table.

“I don’t know. We’ll find something.”

Jack closed his eyes and was silent. Elsa was about to leave, thinking Jack was drifting off, when he said to her, “What about Daniel? I’m sure he could help her.”

“Jack, he’s the one that put her down there in the first place!”

Jack leapt up, but Elsa immediately pushed him down.

“You need to rest, Jack. I’ll help. I’ll go down there. I don’t care if it’s dangerous.”

“Elsa, you’re taking a serious risk here.”
    “It’s for our daughter, Jack.”

Jack sighed, and finally said, “If you wish. But this is the only time I will comply to your going down there.”

Elsa nodded and left, closing the door behind her.

She went to Ethan to tell him everything.

“So, you’re leaving?”

“I’ll be back, Ethan. Daddy will take care of you.”

Then Elsa left.
