Young Acceptance

A story BASED off of my life:
A gay teen who is told she's "Too young" to make this decision struggling with mental issues, bullying, relationships.

"Abigail? Abigail, hello?" A hand waves in front of my face.

"Huh?" I ask and turn to my friend, Alex. She's been there for me since 5th grade. Ok, we're only in 6th grade, but it feels like it's been forever.

"What are you staring at?" She asks. I glance back over at the circular table in the corner of the lunchroom. There she is. Morgan, or Mo for short. She always hangs out with the problem kids, but she isn't one. She has brown eyes and brown hair, she's beautiful.

"FIVE MINUTE WARNING!!" The lunch monitor yells. I get up to throw my tray away without answering Alex's question. I walk over to the tray turn in, Aiden's being made fun of by some of the popular boys. I've known Aiden since kindergarten, he had a crush on me from first grade all the way to fifth grade. I move my tongue over my braces to make sure there isn't any food in them and step forward taking in a deep, shaky breath. My anxiety booming. I can do this.

"Taylor. Leave him alone." I stand up tall, which I never do, it kinda hurts.

"Oh really? What are you gonna do about it? Huh?" Drew, Taylor's friend says and pushes at my shoulder.

I look past them and into Aiden's eyes, not sure what to do. "Let's go." I nod at him and we both just walk away. I wanted to turn around to see their faces or if they were chasing after us, but I didn't. We kept walking.

Now it was time for recess. The only reason will still have recess is because our school is for fifth and sixth graders and I guess fifth graders still need recess. Aiden and I have to split to different sides of the school now. We say goodbye and I got to find Alex. I search through the crowd and I can't find her, so I go outside. I see her talking to Sophie, Morgan and Sophia. Morgan looks around and points at me, then Alex comes running over.

"Where were you?"  She asks.

"Talking to somebody. Where were you?"

"Looking for you!"

We spend the rest of recess talking about how crappy people can be and other boring things while walking circles around the playground, as usual. Eventually, we have to go inside, I go to science and she goes to english.

We're learning about minerals in science. Why do we need to know how to identify minerals? I have no idea. I spend most of class watching Morgan. She's so goddamn beautiful. We do a couple of worksheets and then schools over. Finally. I rush out to my locker, say goodbye to Alex and hurry outside.

We're not allowed to have our phones out until we're outside the school. So as soon as I get on my bus I pull my phone and earbuds out of my black backpack and sit down. I plug my earbuds in and turn on my LGBT playlist. The first song to play is The Village by Wrabel. I keep to myself in my seat for the rest of the bus ride.

Hi!!! Thanks for reading my story, I hope you like it. I'm a pretty crappy writer so...

*I strongly suggest you listen to The Village by Wrabel.*
