21. sphinx

The sphinx appears in Greek mythology and in Egyptian mythology. In both of them ,the sphinx has the body of a lion and sometimes eagle wings. In the Egyptian version, the sphinx has the head of a man, but in the Greek version, it has the head of a woman.

The most famous sphinx id from Greek mythology and is the daughter of Orthus. She would wait outside the city of Thebes for an unsuspecting traveller to walk past. When someone would come by, she would ask them a riddle. If they got it wrong, she would pounce. When someone got it right, then she killed herself by eating herself.

There are many riddles told by the sphinx, but one of the sphinx's most famous riddles is:

"What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at midday, three legs in the afternoon and four legs in the evening?"

The answer is well known but if you really don't know i will give you the answer anyway

A human. Four legs in the morning, crawling in the morning of your life, two legs, standing upright midway through your life, three legs in the afternoon of your life, two legs with the aid of a walking stick and in the evening of your life, four legs on the floor, dead. (Well, two legs and two arms on the floor)
