You Must Be A Weasley

Ruby Weasley, twin of Ronald Weasley, has always been the odd one out of the family. It bothers her, making her frustrated. She wonders why though, why her? Out of everyone in her family, why her? For most of her life she's been asking questions, questions that no one could answer. Until she enters Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where she meets the infamous Draco Malfoy. Will they be enemies like everyone else in the family? Or will they actually get along?

It was very dark when they arrived in Hogsmeade station. When the train stopped, students began to pour out of the train and into the cold night. Ruby snuggled into her robes, felt the chills running through her body. Ruby faced Ron, whose face was pale from nervousness. Ruby really does not understand Ron; there wasn't anything to be nervous about. They were going to Hogwarts! The best place in the world! Ruby looked around the dark surrounding and could make out some nervous faces, or maybe she was the only one who thought that.

"Right then! First years! This way, please! Come on, now, don't be shy! Come now, hurry up!" Said a huge, bearded man, holding a lantern.

All the first years approached the large man, "hello, Harry," the man greeted Harry.

"Hi, Hagrid," Harry greeted back.

Ruby and Ron took one look at the man and their jaws almost dropped. "Whoa!" They said in sync.

"Right then. This way to the boat! Come on, now. Follow me!" Hagrid said to the crowd of first years.

Hagrid led them to the edge of a great black lake where lines of row boats sat; that could only fit four people. Ruby sat in a boat with Harry, Ron, and a boy named Neville. The boat smoothly glided through the lake. Ruby could see a huge castle ahead. It was completely breathtaking when she saw it. It was huge and majestic, like how she imagined. The boats led them right underneath the castle, where they climbed up the stairs of the castle. On the top of the stairways, was a tall, black-haired witch in emblem green robes, waiting for them. She wore a stern face; Professor McGonagall. Ruby suddenly grew nervous when she saw the Professor; she looked very strict and high maintained.

When the first years reached to the top of the staircase, she spoke, "welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats, you must be sorted in your houses. They are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Now, while you are here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." McGonagall explained.

While McGonagall was talking, Ruby heard sounds that belonged to a toad. She switched her eyes to the floor to see a small toad. She leaned to Neville, who was nearby, "is that yours?" She whispered.

Neville spotted the toad, "Trevor!" He shouted, interrupting McGonagall. He rushed to it, then looked up at McGonagall; who had a disapproving look. He had a scared expression as he got up, "sorry." He returned back to the crowd.

"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily," McGonagall finished before leaving them.

"It's true then," everyone turned their head to the source of the voice. Ruby soon recognized the person; it was the boy from Diagon Alley, "what they were saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." There were soon whispers among the crowd, about Harry of course. "This is Crabbe and Goyle," he introduced two beefy boys behind him. He then approached Harry, "and I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."

Ron snickered at his name, as Ruby elbowed his stomach; telling him to stop, causing him to quietly groan in pain. Draco turned towards Ron with a glare, "think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley!" He said in disgust. Ron looked like he was about to attack, Ruby held his elbow from attacking. Draco turned to Ruby, "and who are you?"

Ruby gave him very cold eyes, "Weasley, Ruby Weasley," she mocked his tone, which caused Ron to chuckle under his breath. Draco glared at the twin and then turned back to Harry.

Ruby leaned to Ron, "git." She whispered and Ron nodded in agreement.

"You'll soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there." Draco extended his hand to Harry.

Harry just stared at his hand, "I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks."

Ruby swore she saw Draco's cheeks turn a bit pink. She smiled a bit, serves him right.

Professor McGonagall showed up behind Draco, tapped his shoulder with a scroll to catch his attention. He turned to her, then back to Harry, giving him one last glare before he retreated to his spot. "We're ready for you now."

Ruby took a deep breath as Professor McGonagall led them through the two large doors of the Great Hall. She admitted it, she was nervous about the sorting. She had no idea how everything will turn out, but in her mind, she already knew which house she will be sorted into; Gryffindor. It does make sense, everyone in her family was sorted into Gryffindor. It was the obvious choice.

The view of the Great Hall was amazing, Ruby thought. Four long tables lined the room, all of them were filled with students; floating candles were above them, with a ceiling that looked like the night sky. Professor McGonagall was leading them to the front of the Great Hall. When Ruby passed Fred and George, they gave her a huge smile with two thumbs up. Ruby quietly giggled. When they were at the front, they were facing a wizard's hat. The hat was patched up and very dirty. It sat on top of a stool.

"Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few works," McGonagall said.

Professor Dumbledore; a tall, thin man, with silver hair and beard, rose from the main table. "I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce. First years, please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you that the 3rd-floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you."

That was cheerful...Ruby thought.

Professor McGonagall unrolled the scroll, "when I call your name, you will come forth. I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses. Hermione Granger," she called out the first name.

When Hermione nervously walked up the steps to the stool, Ron leaned in towards Harry and Ruby, "mental that one, I'm telling you."

"Don't be rude, Ron," Ruby scowled.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat announced. The Gryffindor table clapped loudly as Hermione made her way to the table.

"Draco Malfoy." Professor McGonagall called out the next name.

Draco sauntered to the stool before the hat was placed on his head. "SLYTHERIN!" The hat announced. The Slytherin table clapped. Draco wore a self-satisfied smirk as he made his way to the table.

"There isn't a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin," Ron whispered to Harry, making Harry swallow in nervousness.

Ruby glared at Ron, "that's not true. Not all witches or wizards went bad in Slytherin." Ruby whispered.

Ruby finds Ron's attitude towards Slytherin very annoying. Ron was very against the house Slytherin, while Ruby was not. She doesn't find them threatening or bad. She does admit that a lot of witches and wizards did turn bad in that house, but there are also some who did not, like, for example; Merlin. Slytherin does not sound that bad, most of their traits sounded good: skillful, ambitious, determination, and shrewd. Those are good traits, Ruby thought.

"Ronald Weasley." Professor McGonagall called Ron after Susan Bones was sorted into Hufflepuff. Ron's eyes grew when he heard his name. Ruby gave him a light push to make him move. Ron nervously walked to the stool. When the hat was placed on his head, "ah! Another Weasley. I know just where to put you...GRYFFINDOR!" Ron signed in relief. He gave Ruby a smile as he walked to the Gryffindor table.

"Ruby Weasley." Professor McGonagall called her name.

Ruby soon felt this strange feeling in her stomach. It might be from nervousness or maybe she was just hungry. Ruby swallowed as she made her way to the stool. She was facing everyone. Her eyes wondered to the Gryffindor table where her brothers sat. All of them were smiling at her, she can tell that they were all thinking the same thing. She was going to be sorted into Gryffindor.

The hat was placed on her head;

"Another Weasley...a strange one...very odd..." She heard it speak.

Odd? How?

"Hmm...I see you're trying to find yourself, find who you really are. You're not like your family, no, you're different, you don't follow the rules, you make your own...very brave, plenty of courage, daring, just like a Gryffindor...but not enough like the other house...oh yes, I could see you will do well in there...but the question is, are you willing to break the tradition?"

Yes, well, I think so...

"Alright then...must be-
