The Story of Koko Slick

On the planet Flukupra, the Yalis is a species just like the humans, only they aren't violent in any way. Suddenly, the biggest city in the world starts getting a bunch of homicides. City police can't figure out what's being used for attack so they call in Mr. Koko Slick, the smartest man in the world, to uncover the mystery and stop the murders from happening. He stops at nothing to make sure that whomever is behind this is captured. Only he has no idea what is at stake.

4. The Big Attack

Now you have a better understanding of what's going on in our city. We very rarely have crime. I guess all of our luck is finally getting back at us. We've never once in our history had to enforce a curfew. I feel ashamed to be a part of it. At first the public was hesitant and scared, but as we all started getting accustomed to the curfew, the worriness slithered away.

I started to spend most of my time in the lab trying to figure out how someone managed to create a weapon from this chemical. I was working too hard. I ended up getting very little sleep. I would have a theory, test it, and it would always end up failing. Maybe I'm not the smartest man alive. Maybe someone lurking in the shadows is the smartest. Most would say I fell off the deep end. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did, because happy endings don't truly exist.

Three weeks after my announcement an attack happened right in the middle of downtown, killing eighty-five people. The attack was unannounced and happened in the middle of the day. I was in my lab, more or less calling myself a loser. I was hoping that a bottle of liquor would solve my problems. I got a call from my son, Yadosso, saying that there was an attack downtown and that my daughter and wife were down there. Without a second thought I dropped everything and went over there. Fear coursed through my veins as I reached the site. Where's my daughter? My wife? I hope they're okay. They need to be okay.

Herds of people screamed as they all fled the scene. As I got closer to downtown I was forced to walk due to the traffic of people running the other way. Many bumped into my shoulder and didn't even apologize. I was the only one heading to the attacked area. As I got even closer I begin to smell the putrid smell. I cover my mouth and nose, forcing myself to continue. I hear screams of terror and watch as many people are running away with bloody noses, burns, and red eyes. I will never be able to recover from what I have seen.

I finally enter the middle of downtown and even though I'm covering my mouth and nose, the smell is slowly getting into my body. Eighty-five bodies lie on the ground and I stop in my tracks. My body shivers as I see all of the bodies lying on the ground dead. I begin to cry. I failed everyone. I wasn't smart enough. I don't deserve to live, while everyone here died.

I try to catch my breathing as I look through the crowd, scanning for my wife and daughter. I feel what I believe is seat dripping down my face. I go to whip it away with my hand, just to find out that it was blood. I cover my nose as I continue to search the dead bodies. I hear a cough sound in the distance near a beautiful water fountain. I saw that it was my daughter. I ran as fast as I could and when I got there I held her in my hands. Blood was pouring through her mouth and nose. Her eyes were extremely red. There was no way that I could save her.

I begin to sob as she smiles at me. "Daddy," she says to me, "look at the fountain. Isn't it beautiful?" She releases the worst cough I've ever heard and blood goes everywhere.

As I continue to cry I look at the fountain. This was Avif's favorite place to go. She loved throwing pennies into the water and making a wish. I smile, tears falling out of my eyes. "It is beautiful, but you are ten times more beautiful, Avif." I reach into my pocket and grab out a penny. "Make a wish beautiful."

She smiles, grabs the penny, and throws it into the water. She closes her eyes and says, "I wish that my daddy will find out what's happening to our world."

I kiss her forehead and look down to see that Avif never opened her eyes. I shake her, I pinch her, I even try to tickle her, but no response. She was gone. I pulled her into my chest and began to cry. I look around and a couple feet to the side, laid my wife, as gone as everyone else that got attacked. I stare into the water of the fountain, waiting for the gas to take me next. I notice that the air just above the water is moving around like a heatwave, but the air is cool today. I look towards the bottom of the fountain and find a crack that leads to the soil underneath. Then it hits me. We aren't dealing with a terrorist. Our own planet is trying to kill us all. This changes the ball game completely.
