within a minute there was six officers on the wing. They found Peter and they carried him down the stairs and then down to the hospital wing.

The doctor in charge Wesley Simpson ordered that Peter be taken to Newcastle general hospital immediately because of the severity of his injuries. Peter’s nether regions were packed with ice

He was placed on a stretcher then taken directly to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

The seven- hour operation using skin grafts from the backs of his legs was used to form a penis reconstruction operation. His testicals had been burnt so severely that they were removed.

The scarring on both his stomach and the insides of his thighs would take years to heal.

He was put in a separate ward and a police officer had to be posted outside of his door until he was fit enough to be moved.

When Peter Thomson eventually came to court he was in a wheelchair, it was nearly a year since he stood in the same court. The charges against him were read out as Elizabeth Rose, Deborah Jane, Alan, and Janet his wife looked on. Behind them was her sister Mildred, Alan and Susan who had also given evidence against him.  Looking at Peter, the man she knew as her husband who was now barely recognisable. He had aged considerably, the shock of having boiling hot syrup poured over his genitals had turned his hair white and his face was heavily scarred. He had a false tooth fitted in the front of his mouth now but it made little difference to his appearance; he looked ancient. His cheek books stuck out of his bony face and skeletal like frame.

He could not look at his family as Judge Reginald Owens sentenced him to five years imprisonment. In his summing up of the case Judge Owen’s added “If it were not that you have already suffered horrific injuries Mr. Thompson I would be imposing a harsher sentence.  Because of your injuries, you are no longer classed as a danger to society.

I hope that during your time in incarceration that you reflect on your crimes against these women who were then young children, innocent and at that time knew no better. You took advantage of that innocence. Now these women who have been mentally and physically scarred by your actions have to try and live with what you have done to them. I hope that through counselling, you can all get on with your lives.

Since you have served nearly a year in incarceration, this will be taken into consideration and you will be eligible for parole in two years. Take him away.’

“That’s it mam, he cannot hurt us, anymore can he? said Elizabeth Rose.’

“No darling he can’t.’

Rose Sullivan was waiting at the back of the court she came.

forward and hugged Janet. “It’s going to be fine now, you’ll see, I’m back for good.

Deborah Jane smiled and Brian Denny her real father walked up to her and gave her the biggest hug. He then looked at his ex- wife. “Hello Janet, how are you? I am truly sorry for what I did to you, I really am and there’s not a day goes by that I regret what I did through my drunken state. I am not like that any more and do not drink at all. Please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you.’

“I’m fine now Brian, I think this family has suffered enough don’t you.’

“Come on let’s go home. Janet wrapped her arms around her children and walked out of the courtroom.

The End

Authors note

When I was first approached by a young woman to write a story about child sexual abuse I must admit I was apprehensive. I have never written anything like this before and was afraid that I may not be able to do a good enough job of telling it. This woman was so courageous about what had happened to her, how could I refuse. She wanted this story to be told so that others like her who have suffered or maybe suffering from abuse would come forward to tell their story. Abuse takes many forms, physical, mental, and verbal. The man in real life in this story got away with his crimes. He was never brought to justice. If you are a victim do not suffer in silence come forward and tell someone.

“He who Rides a Tiger” a story based on one woman’s torment. It is based on a true story.

Names and places and the timescale have all been changed and I have used some poetic licence to create this novel.
