I did everything for you.
I thought that what we had was real.

But turns out, you were in it for something else.
Not for me.

I should've known
that you were one of those.

Guess it's all in the past.
But I'll tell you what it's like loving you.
This is a short poem for the A Valentine's Day Writing competition.
I chose to do #1

2. Dedication

I envy you and how you are able to pretend that I meant something to you.
You don't understand what it was like being in your presence.

It felt like I was on fire.
You made me feel like I had to go the extra mile in order to impress you.

You may have fooled me, but I thought you really loved me.
At times, when you were in the right mood, you made me feel so special.

You made me laugh the hardest and the only one who could make me cry even harder.
You made me feel protected when I thought I wasn't safe.

Even though you don't care about me now, you made me think that you would take a bullet for me.
Silly me for thinking such a thing now.

When I was having health issues, you were the one to hand me a bowl of chicken soup.
You were a great nurse.

You took great care of me,
But you knew you would get something out of it if you did.

And that's what sucks.
It was all just a joke to you.

A field game on how long you can last
until your time comes to end.

Then you just give up
and let everyone down- me down.

Do you know what sucks even more?
Is that that kind of love?
I'd take again.

At least I'd know it was all worth it.
