2. The Incident

Carrie White, daughter of Margaret White and Ralph White, was accused of the murder of Prince Hans as well as witchcraft. Jessica was astonished, because Carrie White was her best friend, even though she was a commoner, the people Jack didn’t like.

Jack didn’t even know that Jess had been talking to a commoner even though she wasn’t supposed to.

The day of Carrie’s trial came. Jack, Elsa, Anna, and Jessica were sitting at a judge’s desk that was long enough to fill the four of them. From left to right, it was Anna,Elsa,Jack, and Jessica.

The court reporter woman made the transcript as follows:

His Majesty The King: Carrieta White, you have been accused of the crimes murder and witchcraft. You are accused of murdering Prince Hans Westergaard of the Southern Isles, and you have been accused of using witchcraft by moving a bench using nothing but your mind. What do you plead?

Carrieta: I plead innocent.

His Majesty: To what crime?

Carrieta: The murder.

His Majesty: The murder? Not witchcraft?

*Carrieta White is crying at this point*

His Majesty: Why are you crying?

Carrieta: Because I am being accused of something I have not done.

His Majesty: The murder.

*Carrieta nods*

His Majesty: This is enough for me. Carrieta White has been proven guilty of witchcraft and the murder of Prince Hans Westergaard of the Southern Isles. Therefore, she is guilty.

Princess Jessica: Objection!

*Everyone turns to look at Her Royal Highness*

Princess Jessica: I do not think she is the one who committed the murder, or should be accused of witchcraft.

His Majesty: What makes you think that?

Princess Jessica: Can I talk to you in private? Now?

*His Majesty nods*

*Princess Jessica and His Majesty go into a different room for 5 minutes, and then come back out*

*Her Royal Highness and His Majesty take their seats and face Carrieta*

His Majesty: My daughter has informed me of something unimportant and I will discard the information.

*Princess Jessica looks furious*

Carrieta: What will happen to me?

His Majesty: You will be put into the dungeon for a week, and then, you will have the chance to say your goodbyes, then you will be burnt at the stake.

*Carrieta is crying*

*Princess Jessica stands up and storms out of the room*

*Guards take Carrieta out of the room*

*Everyone leaves the room*

-END OF TRANSCRIPT-

Jessica was angry at her father, and during the week of Carrie being in the dungeon, she went down to visit Carrie.

Jack knew about Jessica’s visits to the dungeon, and he knew why she went down there. However, he said nothing to her.

Then, the day before Carrie was to be executed, Jack then met Jess in the hallway and told her:

“Jessica, tomorrow, you are to burn Carrie. You are going to be the one with the torch. You will drop it onto the straw and burn her. This is your punishment for talking to a commoner.”

Jessica said nothing, she simply stared him down.

Finally, she turned on her heel, and left.

She didn’t talk to him at all that day. She ignored him, and refused to eat, drink, or sleep. She put up a fight when Jack tried to feed her himself, since he was really desperate. However, he didn’t hurt her in any way, knowing how fragile she was.

Finally, the next day came. In the middle of the afternoon, Carrie had already said goodbye to her mother and Jessica, since they were the only people to say goodbye to.

Then a guard took Carrie and tied her. She did not resist, and the guard said: “You’re easier than most people I’ve done this to.”

“Is that a compliment?”

The guard did not answer her.

Then she saw Jess holding the torch, and was shocked. Her own best friend was going to do this to her?

Jessica then mouthed to her, “I’ll make sure you do not die alone.”

Carrie smiled. Her best friend, Jessica, a royal, was going to try to be with her in death. How sweet.

Then Jack called out to the crowd, “Let the record show that this girl, Carrieta White, has been accused of witchcraft and murder. Are there no objections?”

“My objection.”

Everyone looked at who had spoken.

“Jess, you don’t have to do this.” Carrie said.

“Jessica-” Jack began.

“IF SHE BURNS, I BURN WITH HER!”

“Jess-”

“I CAN’T LET HER DIE!”

By this time, Jessica was beginning to choke up. She fell to her knees. She nearly cried.

Then Jack bent down and whispered in her ear, “Don’t tell me you’re actually friends with this commoner.”

Then, Jessica snapped up, surprising Jack. She stood, walked to the stake, and dropped the torch, grabbing Carrie’s hand as well.

“JESSICA!” Jack cried. The guards tried to get her out of the fire, but she stayed.

Carrie was screaming, Jessica was laughing. Jack was finally able to grab Jessica, and held her tight. She couldn’t get out of his grip.

“Let me go!”

“Jessica, I can’t let you die.” Jack said.

“Let me go!”

“The only way I’m going to let you go is if you calm down, and listen to Carrie’s screams.”

Finally, Jessica calmed down, and Jack forced her to listen to Carrie’s screams. Then after Carrie was pronounced gone:

“This is why I never wanted you to play with the villagers and befriend them, Jess. They do bad things, and they get punished severely for it.”

Elsa thought that he was being an absolute tyrant, and alone in their bedroom she told him so.

“Why do you think that?” Jack said to her.

“Making her listen to that girl’s screams, ignoring what Jess told you...it’s just not right.”

“I didn’t listen because it wasn’t something I wanted to be reminded of.”

“What did she tell you, Jack?”

“She told me that because you, her, and I had ice magic and used it, we would be doing witchcraft, too.”

Elsa was silent, and then said, “She’s right.”

“Exactly.”

“Ok, but it still wasn’t right.”

“I know.”

“Carrie-”

“Do not say her name with me.”

“Ok, the girl that was accused was Jessica’s best friend.”

“WHAT?!”

“Shhh, Jack, keep it down.”

“You’re telling me that Jessica actually became friends with that idiot of a commoner?!”

“What do you have against commoners?”

“They waste my time! You see the people that come by and take 5 minutes to get to a complaint.”

“So? They have to have faith in us.”

“I don’t like what Jessica’s done, and I’ll make sure she gets punished.”

“She has been punished enough!”

“Really?”

“YES!”

They stared each other down, and finally Jack looked away.

“Alright, I admit I have been a bit harsh.”

    “A bit?”

“Alright, very harsh. But she’s going to rule one day, and I need her to not be so soft hearted. She’s going to have to be hard at times.”

“She needs to learn mercy, not cruelty.”

“I’m done. I can’t talk about this anymore.”

Finally Jack left to go to his office to get some paperwork done, and Elsa let him. Then, a servant knocked on the door.

    “Your Majesty?”

    “Yes?”

    “I’m sorry to bother you…”

“It’s alright. What do you need?”

    “It’s Princess Jessica. She’s, um...doing something she shouldn’t be.”

    “Which is?”

“She’s gone after His Majesty King Pitch again.”

“I’ll take care of this. Where is Jack?”

“In his office. Would you like me to get him,Your Majesty?”

    “No. I can handle it.”

    “Yes, Your Majesty.”

    “Please lead me to them.”

    “Of course.”

Then the servant led Elsa to a hallway, where Jessica was arguing with Pitch, a sword in her hand.

“I know for a fact that you’re happy that Carrie’s gone.”

    “How can you tell?”

“When she was burning, you were smiling. That’s reason enough.”

“I don’t believe you understand me, Your Royal Highness. After all, I was only smiling at something I had just thought of.”

“Let me get this straight, I will make sure I rain down on you once I get the chance.”

    “Are you intimidating me, Princess?”

    “Yes.”

“Your father will not be happy with that. I believe he is already upset at you.”

“I am more upset with him than he is with me.”

“His behavior says otherwise. I believe you’re not supposed to go near me. He said that, correct?”

Jessica backed up, and then said, “I’m not near you anymore. Happy?”

“Yes.”

Then Elsa came into the conversation.

“What are you talking about?”

“He’s happy that Carrie is dead.”

“I don’t believe so. At her funeral-” Elsa began

“He wasn’t at her funeral. He didn’t care about her like I did.”

“Jess-”

But Jess had already run down the hall and out of sight.

Elsa then turned to Pitch, exasperated.

“I’m sorry about all this, Your Majesty. She’s been like this ever since that girl died.”

“Yes. It is sad, isn’t it?” said Pitch.

“Yes. That girl was Jessica’s best friend.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Why did she die?”

“She was accused of witchcraft and the murder of Prince Hans.”

“Oh.”

“I hope she gets over this soon.”

“I hope so, too, Queen Elsa.”

Jessica never got over it. She pretended she had, but inside, she never did.

No one knew that she was against Jack ever since.
