4. Bloody Laughter

A month later, King Stephen and Prince Louis of Vemark came to Arendelle to arrange the marriage of Jessica and Louis. The suitors from before had left after Jessica had chosen none of them, however the kingdoms they were from were still allies with Arendelle. Jessica and Jack were facing Louis and Stephen. Stephen then said, “My son is a very polite man. He’s learned defense and tactics, so he will be able to defend Jessica when she cannot defend herself.”

“That is good. Jess has learned armed and unarmed combat, and she has excelled in it.”

“My Louis is a match for Princess Jessica.”

At least he gave her the title that was rightfully hers.

Then, Carrie burst in, a bloody white towel around her. “Help me!” she screamed, stretching her bloody hand out and wiping it on Jack’s pant leg before falling to her knees. “I’m bleeding to death!”

Jessica gently knelt down beside Carrie and said, “It’s okay, Carrie. It’s okay.”

“No it’s not! I’m bleeding to death!”

    “What’s going on?” Jack said.

“It’s something that happens to girls as they grow up. It’s normal.”

“‘I’m bleeding-’” Jack stopped, and then to Jessica’s dismay, he started to laugh.

“She thinks she’s dying because she got her-” he couldn’t finish, he was laughing too hard.

Pretty soon, King Stephen and Prince Louis began to laugh, too.

Jessica then glared at the men, saying to a servant, “Get my mother. Hurry!”

The servant hurried out of the room, the men still laughing as Carrie said to Jessica, “I’m bleeding to death! I’m bleeding to death!”

“No, you’re not, Carrie. This is normal, okay?”

While Jessica comforted Carrie, the servant came in, followed by Elsa, who took one look at the scene and became stern.

“Men, I suggest you stop this immature behavior.”

Jack heard Elsa’s voice and said, “Elsa…”

“This behavior is immature. It is also rude.”

King Stephen and Prince Louis finally stopped laughing.

“I assure you, men, that this is no laughing matter.”

She then knelt down by Jessica and Carrie and said to Carrie, “I need you to walk with me, okay?”

Carrie nodded and stood up with Jessica. Then Elsa led Carrie and Jessica out of the room. However, Jessica then glared at the men with such ferocity that Louis looked away.

“I hope you realize that Carrie has been bullied enough by her peers. She doesn’t need to be ridiculed by jerks like you.”

“Jess-” Jack began.

“You’re jerks, you know that? All three of you are jerks!”

She then raced off before Jack could say anything more.

Jack then turned to Stephen and Louis.

“I’m sorry about this. I have to persuade her to forgive us. It will be a challenge.”

“I am sorry about this as well. We should not have hurt her.” Stephen said.

“If you mess up in front of Jess, she is most likely not going to forgive you. However, in this case, I will most likely end up being the one not forgiven.”

Jack was wrong.

He later went to Jessica’s room and knocked on the door.

“Go away.”

“Jess, I have to talk to you.”

“Go away.”

“I said go away.”

Jack sighed, and then said, “Okay, Jess. But we’ll talk later.”

Then, Louis knocked on the door.

“Who are you?”

“It’s Louis.”

“Oh, the Louis that hurt my best friend.”

Louis didn’t like the sound of her voice.

“Go away.”

“I SAID GO AWAY!” Jessica yelled through the door.

Louis flinched, and then said, “Sure thing, Princess. Whatever makes you happy.”

Then, King Stephen tried. However, the same results happened.

They then met again, to discuss the marriage. They also discussed what had happened with Jessica.

“She said go away with all three of us.”

“Jessica told me that she was not the one we were to apologize to,” Stephen said.

“Then who?” Louis replied

“She told me that we are to apologize to Carrie, because she was the one who was hurt the most.”

“I’m not going to apologize to a commoner. That’s just not done.”

“Jessica will never forgive us if we don’t.”

“She can pull whatever stunt she’s going to do, because I’m not going to care.”

“Perhaps we should just talk about the marriage.”

They discussed it for 15 minutes, talking about the strengths and weaknesses of Louis and Jessica that could be useful to each other and downgrade each other.

However, the kings were keeping a secret from their children. Jessica didn’t know that Louis had fire magic, and Louis didn’t know that Jessica had ice magic. Whenever someone with a specific type of magic touched someone with the opposite type (such as fire and ice), the touch would create electricity and shock both of them. If the couple was destined to be together, there would be no shock when they exchanged rings in marriage.

Then, Jack went to Jessica’s room and knocked on the door.

No answer.

“Jess?” Jack said again.

Again, no answer.

“I’m going to open the door, ok?”

Still no answer.

He slowly opened the door and saw Jessica facing the window, her back to him.

“I have to talk to you.”

Jessica didn’t answer, but swirled her chair around to face him.

“So talk.”

“You’re going to get married next month. August 16th.”

Jessica said nothing. He continued.

“You’re going to get married to Prince Louis.”

Jessica again said nothing.

“Your mother knows, so don’t worry. She’ll help you get ready.”

Jack then smiled, waiting for her response. The response he got was not one he was expecting.

“You make sound like a good thing.”

“It is a good thing, Jess.”

“Not to me.”

“Jess, I was scared as well when I got married to Mom. But it’s not that scary.”

“I’m getting married to someone I do not want to marry. I’m supposed to be happy about that?”

Jessica stared at him, and then shook her head.

Then a servant came along. “Your Majesty? Queen Elsa would like to speak with you.”

Jack then said, “We’ll talk later, Jess.”

“You said that last time and we never did.”

“Well, this time I promise.”

He then went to Elsa’s office and knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

Jack went in and Elsa said, “Shut the door behind you, please.”

He did. Elsa looked angry, seemed angry, sounded angry.

“You’re making Jessica marry this boy that she doesn’t even know?”

“That’s what happened with us.The only difference is that you actually wanted to marry me, and I actually wanted to marry you.”

“She doesn’t know him! I hate to say it, Jack, but you aren’t the guy I married.”

“You were so kind and sweet, and now you’ve made Jess burn Carrie, HER BEST FRIEND I might add, and you’re making her marry someone she doesn’t even know! Besides that, you laughed at Carrie because she thought she was bleeding to death when it was really just her monthly cycle! I hate to tell you this, Jack, but you’ve turned into a tyrant!”

Jack then took a deep breath and said, “Maybe I have been a bit of a tyrant.”

“A bit doesn’t even begin to describe it.”

“All right, a real tyrant. But I know that Jess has a long life ahead of her. A long life of ruling. She has to marry now, or she never will. Like Anna.”

“Do not bring Anna into this.”

“I’m just saying that it doesn’t hurt to get married at a young age, Elsa.”

Elsa sighed. “I’m against this, but if you want her to marry without her consent, that’s up to you.”

“Ok, Elsa.”

He then went to Louis and Stephen and said to them, “Come with me. I must talk with you.”

He led them into a room and said, “Louis, I think I know how to get her to warm up to you. I wanted to bring your father in so that he can give his consent.”

Meanwhile, Jessica was in her room. Someone knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

Anna opened the door.

“Hi Anna.”

“You look so angry, Jess. What’s wrong?”

“Dad’s making me get married to someone I don’t know.”

“Who’s this person?”

“Prince Louis of Vemark.”

“I’ve heard about him. He’s got a good reputation.”

“I don’t want to marry him.”

“Why not?”

“I’m only 15.”

“Well, yes, you are a bit young to marry. I’m not even married yet.”

“Do you think that Carrie is a witch?”

Anna thought for a moment and then said, “No, I don’t.”

“Dad thinks so. He disapproves of her.”

“Well, she’s a good friend.”

“Yeah, she’s my best friend.”

“Maybe you should go to her. She might have better advice than I do.”

So she went.
