20. Chapter twenty

Hoseok's POV

As the older woman stepped outside, seemingly on the phone with someone, I duck behind a nearby bush. I wait it out until I see another car pull up and a handsome, young man- one with similar looks to the older woman- steps out with... Taehyung!? I think about just attacking him, desperate to save my friend but think about the possible consequences after. I take another cautious step back, examining Taehyung and the mystery boy who was holding him.

"Let me go!" Taehyung thrashed around, beating the young man.

"When are you going to listen, Taehyung!?" The man tossed him onto the ground, picking up a giant rock.

Taehyung began to desperately crawl away and for a minute, we locked eyes. The look of pleading help and fear clear in his eyes. "No!”

*SMASH* Was the sound of the rock against Taehyung's skull.

"Finally some peace and quiet. Hello, mother." The man scolded his mother but with a smirk on his face.

"Jungkook, I am so disappointed in you. This is so messy and disgraceful," A look of disgust crossed the woman's face.

Jungkook.. I've heard of that name before. Oh.. no.

Fifth grade

"Hobi! Wanna come over for dinner? My mom said it was okay," Jungkook smiled, joining me in the hallway as I readjust my bookbag.

"Sure! What are we having- dogs or cats?" I wink, nudging him.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, "Hey, I also invited this new kid- Tae. Hope that's okay with you."

"Definitely! You now I love meeting new people."

"Bleh," Jungkook stuck his tongue out. "It's disgusting."

"Whatever," I swung an arm around him as we walked outside our school.

“So I’ll see you?” Jungkook grinned, pulling apart from me.

I nod in response, going my separate way home to prepare for the dinner I can’t wait to have.

Later that evening

I knock on Jungkook’s door, shoving my hands in my jeans afterwards.

“Well hello sir,” Jungkook puts on a sort of butler looking facial expression. He even has a dish towel on his arm. “Shall I take your coat?”

“Yes butler,” as smug as I can be, I tossed my coat on Jungkook’s head.

“Hey!” He pouted.

I jog to his mother who is cooking in the kitchen. “Smells delicious!” I lick my lips. “So when’s the new kid coming over?”

“Now,” Jungkook’s mother smiled at me before going to get the door. Once she opened it, a young boy, about the same age as us, possibly older, stands with his own mother. Ahh, a pretty boy.

“I’m Hobi,” I extend my hand to Taehyung while their mothers talk.

“Taehyung or Tae,” I was shocked to be greeted with a smile. Already, I knew I’d come to like Taehyung.

“We’ll be the best of friends.” I grinned and Jungkook slides in appearance. “Come on in!” We all step out the way to let Tae and his mother inside. “The food is done.”

I go ahead and grab a plate, helping set the table like I normally do when over at Jungkook’s. Tae can sit by me. I set his plate in front of the chair beside mine as he took his seat. Once everyone had their food and beverages, I take my own seat and digging in.

“So Tae, when did you get here?” I engage in conversation.

“A few days ago. Jungkook was nice enough to be friends with me.” He smiled to Jungkook.

Without a glance at my best friend, I nod at Tae. “So what kinda plans do you have for the weekend? Trust me, it’s essential to know. You can always hang out at my place!” At this point, I was rambling and in the corner of my eye, I noticed Jungkook just looking between Tae and I.

“Um.. I don’t think I’m doing anything. I’d love to hang out! Jungkook can come too?” Tae suggested/questioned a bit.

I nod and shrug at the same time, “Yea, sure- whatever.” I’m just eager to get to know someone new.

Jungkook and Tae’s mother were too caught up in their own conversation to notice that Jungkook had already gotten up from the table. Quite frankly, I hadn’t noticed either.

Tae eyed him suspiciously, a sympathetic look in his eyes towards Jungkook. At this, I stand and follow Jungkook who was making his way upstairs. “Hey, you okay dude?” I reach for his arm but he yanks it away.

“Don’t touch me!” He hollered.

“What’s your problem man?” I glared, taken aback at his sudden outburst.

"Go back downstairs to your best friend, Hobi." Jungkook looked as if he was about to cry.

"I was just getting to know him Jungkook." I frowned, feeling horrible at not doing something about his feelings sooner. "Forgive me?"

It took a minute but Jungkook's frown turned upside down and he wrapped me in a hug.

"I promise you'll always be number one." I pulled away, looking into my best friends eyes.

"You promise?"

"Promise," we wrap our pinkies around each others. "Let's go back down."

Together, Jungkook and I walked back downstairs and had the time of our lives.

The next day

I saw Jungkook today but he was too busy talking to somebody. He caught me and waved. Smiling, I waved back but he turned away too quickly to notice. It was expected of him to stay after school because he had tutoring on Thursdays so I shrugged it off and walked home.

When the school bell rang, I ran to the bathroom. I've been holding it all day and felt relieved when I could finally go.

After I was finished with my business, I stand outside Jungkook's classroom. Lord, where is he? Giving up, I walk home. Luckily I bumped into Taehyung on the way.

"Hey!" I smile widely to Tae.

"Whatsup?" He returns it, grasping the arms of his bookbag.

"Not much."

"Hey guys! Wait up!" I heard a voice. It sounded far away so I turned around and only saw a truck. Shrugging it off, I continue to walk and occasionally made jokes with Taehyung.

He ended up spending the night at my house all weekend- me completely forgetting about Jungkook.

I jump at the sound of Jungkook's locker. His was right beside mine. I catch a look at him and he's changed. His look is much darker now and I can't help but wonder why. I open my mouth to say something but he walks away without a second glance. I stand there in the hallway, gripping my textbooks and watching Jungkook grow smaller.

Present day

"That bastard.." I mumble, my fists clenching. Just you wait Jungkook. Just you wait.
