In Between The Trees

I told her not to go, in between those trees were things that you wouldn't even see in your nightmares. But she did anyways, and now it's up to me to find her. I made a promise that if she left that I would come back for her...and I do not break promises.

3. Chapter 2. Don't sleep just yet

“She's my cherry pie, cool drink of water such a sweet surprise.” I bobbed my head back and forth while humming Cherry Pie by Warrant.

It was one of my favorite songs on my MP3 player. I didn't download many, so I had put many songs on repeat. Once I had got tired of one beat, I’d put on another. I made an attempt to make my journey as pleasurable as possible. I tried ignoring all the things around me because I knew all it would remind me of was Savannah.

Don't get me wrong, I love the forest and always have even when Savannah did disappear. The sound of the birds and the sound of the trees when a huge gust of wind comes. I can't really explain how the feeling goes, but it used to always make me feel safe, a place I can go to escape.

But like I said it “used” to be a safe place for me to go. But now every time I even step foot in the forest, I feel like the tiniest thing there. I feel so unprotected from everything. I feel so...useless.

I yanked out my headphones and shoved them in my duffel bag along with my MP3 player. I sighed and stopped. My feet were starting to get tired so I decided to take a break. Luckily there was a average sized oak tree a couple yards up. By the time I got to the tree I was at my knees. I was literally panting like a dog. Man...I really need to work out.

I sat down and leaned up against the tree. I put my duffel bag in my lap and sighed as setting my hands on top of the bag. I looked up and through the oaks leaves. There wasn't a single cloud to be seen and it was bright blue. I thought to myself, i'm gonna end up falling asleep. Watch.

It was still daytime, probably afternoon, it would've been smart to bring a watch but I kind of forgot. I didn't even bother getting my blanket out because I was so tired. I looked down at my duffel bag and slowly started to drift off to sleep. As everything slowly turned black Savannah made her way into my dream. She stared at me with cold soulless eyes. I stared back with every emotion I had. This was a sign, she's still out there...I know it.
