Second Chances

“I took a pregnancy test…” She sobbed, with her hands covering her face.

“And…?” He asked.

“It was pos..”

“No! Let´s take that again. Mia, please just… augh. Make it natural.” Mrs. Price interrupted. I would’ve never chosen Drama, if I had known this was what we were going to do. I would almost say that; drama class was like watching paint dry. But lately, I had been able to just sit on my phone and do nothing, maybe catch up with some homework. But still, I’d rather be somewhere else. Mia and Mike had taken forever to learn their lines. And even after 3 weeks of practicing the same damn scene, Mia couldn’t… she just couldn’t. Even Mrs. Price had started to look exhausted.

I pulled my phone from my pocket, my eyes had started to hurt after watching two as dumb as Mia and Mike for more than an hour. 3 new messages from Lucy.

Good morning<3

Did you finish your homework?

Meet after school?<3<3

I replied. While I was here, Lucy was in cooking class with her friends. Unluckily, none of my friends were in Drama. Lately, we had been together every day after school. It was pretty neat. Though, if I had to be honest, I would say that I was starting to get a little tired of her. No, but really, hearing about her whole day in details, got pretty boring. I would’ve broken up with her, if she hadn’t been so damn hot. Her skin was always tan, and her long dark brown hair was always shiny. And her eyes, huh. Don’t even get me started. Every time her eyes looked into mine, I would smile.

“We are done for today. Please rehearse your lines if you don’t know them. See you next Tuesday” Mrs. Price left the room in a rush. I stood up and walked out.

Someone down the hall called my name. I turned around.

“Oh Romeo, why are you Romeo!” They giggled. They enjoyed making fun of me.

“So, how was drama?” Bryce asked, as he jammed his hands in his front pockets.

“Fine. How was cooking?” I asked.

“Great. Lucy had her hair in a ponytail. God, was she looking good?!” Adam laughed. I pushed him with a giggle.

“Where is she now?” I said, while walking towards my locker.

“I don’t know, man” Bryce answered.

Bryce and Adam were kind of my best friends. We´d known each other since 3rd grade, and had always been best friends. Though, a lot had changed since then. We were seniors now, which meant it was probably our last year together.

“I am having a party this weekend, and would like to personally invite you both.” Adam lived in a mansion, with his two extremely rich parents. They were usually never home in the weekend, since they both had jobs that demanded that they traveled a lot.

“Nice” Bryce said, while nodding his head. Lucy walked past us. Her ponytail swinging from side to side.

“Dude? Something wrong with you two?” Adam asked, a line appeared between his brows. I gritted my teeth.

“Maybe she didn’t notice me?” I said, my eyes still focusing on her.

“It’s pretty hard, not to notice your boyfriend?” Adam said. They both looked at me. Finally, I made eye contact with her. She raised her hand and waved.

“A wave?”

- “Something is definitely wrong” He continued.

After school, I made my way through the crowd. I was on my way to talk to Lucy, before her mom picked her up. I caught sight of her at last. She stood by a tree near the parking lot. Her hair was no longer in a ponytail.

“Hey” I kissed her. She smiled.

“Hi” She ran her fingers through her hair.

“Did you have a good day?” I asked.

“Yeah fine. Did you?” She asked with a giggle.

“Oh yeah, watching Mia and Mike trying to act was definitely something.” I said. She grinned. She looked around.

“Augh. My mom is already here. Gotta go” She said. My smiled faded. I kissed her goodbye, and started to walk home. It wasn’t that far.
