Sherryn and Toby were troublemakers.
Always have been.
- - -
They've been best friends since the third grade.
- - -
Sherryn's mom is always working at the hospital, so she's never around to see what her mom's boyfriend does to her.
Toby's parents are drug abusers and alcoholists.
- - -
Sherryn's stubborn, and Toby has anger issues, but he'll deny it every time you try to tell him.
- - -
They did something bad. They've done a lot of bad stuff before, but this one was too far.
And now they have to be on the move if they don't want to get caught.

Sherryn's p.o.v.-

ring, ring.

ring, ring

ring, ri-

I feel my phone around the floor. I've been asleep all day, and locked myself in my room, while Kyle was out there. I only came out whenever he left. When I finally feel it, I pick it up and answer.

"Hello?" I hear a chuckle.

"Were you asleep?" It's Toby. I grin when I hear his voice.

"Yeah. Not feeling well." I lie.

"Huh. Well, I can come over if you'd like?"

"Uh, no. It's fine, I'll be okay. Besides, hopefully, my mom will be home for a little bit so we can talk." I hear shuffling on the other side.

"Yeah, that'd be nice." After that it's silent.

"What's wrong?" I ask him. I hear him sigh.

"Nothing. I'm fine." I scoff. I know he's lying. I always know.

"Yeah right. I know something's wrong when you get quiet. Spill." He sighs again.

"I got into a fight with Chad and Dominique." I frown.

"Those losers? What happened?"

"They were mouthing about my parents and I snapped. Which I don't know why. What they were saying was true."

"You snapped because they're your parents," I say. I hear a thud.

"Well, I wish I didn't. They're not worth it." Before I could say anything, I hear the front door close. Please let that be my mom, I think.

"Hey, Potatoes, I gotta let you go. I think my mom might be home."

"Okay. I'll talk to you later?"

"Alright. Love you, Corndog."

"Love you too." I hang up and try to sit up, but I'm sore from when Kyle kicked me in my stomach. I go to my door, unlock it, and open it a little bit so I can peek through. It is my mom! I open it all the way and run out.

"Mom!" I shout. She turns around and I wrap my arms around her neck. She chuckles.

"Oh my, Sherryn! Hello to you, too." I finally let go of her and get a good look at her. She has dark bags underneath her eyes. Her eyes look dull from the less sleep she's been getting. When she sees my face, she frowns.

"Oh my God, Sherr. What happened to your face?" Should I tell her? I think.

"Uh, it was..." Then the front door opens again, revealing Kyle with grocery bags in his hands. When he sees me staring at him, he glares. I quickly look away.

"I, uh, got into a fight at school." I lie again. She tsks.

"Sherryn, you know you're not supposed to be fighting." I lower my head as Kyle walks past me and into the kitchen to set the groceries down.

"I know, Mom. It won't happen again." She looks at me for a moment, before softening her face. She gives me a kiss on the cheek.

"I hope so." She walks past me as well and helps Kyle put the food up. I lean against our counter.

"So, are you staying home for the rest of the night?" I ask. She turns around and sighs.

"No, hun. I have to go back at eight." I throw my hands up.

"What?! But that's in an hour! You just got here!" She flinches.

"I know, dear. But the hospital has been very busy, and-"

"The hospital is always busy," I say bitterly. I storm to my room and close my door, making sure to lock it as well. Then I flop onto my bed and bury my face in my pillow. I scream and start crying. This is so unfair, I think.

Sorry, this is such a short chapter. Hopefully, the next one won't be. Let me know what you think of it. Thanks for reading!
