Sherryn and Toby were troublemakers.
Always have been.
- - -
They've been best friends since the third grade.
- - -
Sherryn's mom is always working at the hospital, so she's never around to see what her mom's boyfriend does to her.
Toby's parents are drug abusers and alcoholists.
- - -
Sherryn's stubborn, and Toby has anger issues, but he'll deny it every time you try to tell him.
- - -
They did something bad. They've done a lot of bad stuff before, but this one was too far.
And now they have to be on the move if they don't want to get caught.

Laura opens the door, revealing two police officers. She sniffs.

"Please, come in," she says, opening the door more, allowing the officers to step inside. They look around, inspecting the house.

"Is there a reason you called us, Ms...?" They pause, glancing at each other, not sure what to call her.

"Oh, Johnson." She sniffs again, wiping a tear. They nod. The first officer speaks up.

"What seems to be the problem?" She guides them to her living room.

"It's my son. H-he's missing." Her voice cracks. The second officer takes out a small tablet and a pen and starts writing.

"And what's your son's name?" Clarise wipes a tear.

"Toby. Toby Johnson." The second officer writes it down.

"Do you know what time he left the house?" He asks. She nods.

"Around one in the afternoon. He had a bag on his b-back." The officer writes it down.

"Do you know why he left?" She looks down at her lap.

"We had an argument. He was angry with me before." The first officer leans in a little.

"Do you know why he was angry, ma'am?" She pauses before answering.

"I had done something when I had told him that I was going to stop. That's why he was angry." The officer nods.

"Do you know where he might've gone?" She shakes her head.

"Can you give us a description of him?" She nods.

"Uh, he has short brown hair. He has blue-ish, greenish eyes. He's about 5'10. He has a small nose and very plump lips. He has a narrow jawline. That's the best description I can give on his face." The officer nod.

"That's alright. We'll get a drawing and see if your description matches with the drawing." They stand up, but Clarise puts a hand out.

"Wait! Or I can just give you a picture of him?" She suggests. They both nod. She goes into the kitchen and searches in her drawer for a school photo she cut out. When she finds one of him, she hands it to the first officer.

"This is him," she points. They inspect the photo.

"Do you mind if we keep this?" She shakes her head.

"Well, we're going to head back to the station. We'll put a pickup order out for him. We'll give you a call if we hear anything, alright?" She sniffs and nods. As they turn around she calls out to them again.

"You should try Sherryn!" They turn around, a confused look on their face.

"Who's Sherryn?" Her hands start to shake.

"Sherryn is his best friend. They've been friends since the third grade. Toby's father and I know Sherryn's parents. We were actually really close to them. That's how Sherryn and Toby became friends. I can give you her address." She tells the second officer with the tablet the address to Sherryn's apartment.

"Try her. She's more than likely to know where Toby is." They both nod.

"We'll try her place on our way back to the station. Have a nice rest of your day, ma'am." Then they walk out, closing the door behind them. When the police car drives off, Laura falls to her knees with her head in her hands as she cries again.
