Don't Stop

Sherryn and Toby were troublemakers.
Always have been.
- - -
They've been best friends since the third grade.
- - -
Sherryn's mom is always working at the hospital, so she's never around to see what her mom's boyfriend does to her.
Toby's parents are drug abusers and alcoholists.
- - -
Sherryn's stubborn, and Toby has anger issues, but he'll deny it every time you try to tell him.
- - -
They did something bad. They've done a lot of bad stuff before, but this one was too far.
And now they have to be on the move if they don't want to get caught.

The next day, the officers are sitting at their desk when they see a particular detective that they don't like, walk out from their sheriff's office. They look at each other in confusion before getting up and walking up to the detective.

"Hey, George," the first officer says, not at all happy to see him. George grins at the officers.

"Well, if it isn't my two favorite officers." The way he said officers, makes the two officers roll their eyes.

"Yeah, yeah. What are you doing here?" The second officer asks him in annoyance already. George lifts up two files.

"I'm starting a new case." The officers frown.

"Oh, yeah? What is the case about?"

"Uh, it's about two missing kids." The officers freeze.

"Missing kids? Are these kids teens?" George frowns. He flips open the files and scans the papers.

"Uh, yeah? Why?" The first officer glances at the second officer before turning his attention back to George.

"Is one a girl and the other a boy?" George squints his eyes at the two officers.

"Yes? Why do you two care?" The second officer scrunches his eyebrows in anger.

"We started that case. Why are you doing it?" George realizes that they're upset and grins.

"I was called in by your sheriff. I guess he thinks I can handle the job." The second officer blows air from his nose and takes a step forward, but the first officer grabs his wrist.

"Why is it that whenever we start a case, you're always the one who takes the lead?" The first officer asks. George just shrugs.

"That's what happens when you're a detective and not just a town officer." He winks at the officers.

"I'll see you two around." He turns around and walks out as the two officers just glare at George's back.

A few minutes after he left, the officers walk up to the sheriff's office. The first officer knocks two times and they wait before they hear their sheriff call them in.

"What is it that I can help you two with?" The second officer speaks.

"Why did you give George the case about the two missing teens we brought in yesterday?" The sheriff frowns and folds his arms.

"Maybe because I think he's fit for the job. Why does it sound like you guys are upset?" The first officer steps in before the second officer could say anything. He tends to let his emotion get the best of him sometimes.

"We just thought that maybe you'd let us try and solve this case. George always takes over cases that we bring in. It bothers us since he used to always give us a hard time and he knows it too." The sheriff puts his hands up.

"I'm sorry, boys, but George is one of the best detectives we have in this town. Besides, you wear a cop badge, not a detective badge. If you two want to be detectives, go and train to be one. But for now, your jobs are to be cops. Now, please, go do your job." He waves them off. The second officer storms out while the first officer sighs before walking out and catching up with his partner. The second officer flops into his seat and bangs his desk, causing everyone to look at him weirdly. He rests his head in his hands while the first officer slowly sits down, looking at his frustrated partner.

"Listen, he's right-" but the second officer cuts him off.

"I don't care if he or George is right. I was really looking forward to that case. I wanted to find those missing teens. But it just pisses me off when people, even your own damn sheriff, just see you as a town cop. I was made more than this shit." The first officer nods.

"I know. But, unless you want to get fired, we need to do our job." The second officer just shakes his head. I'm more than just a town cop.

Sorry that this chapter was short. I've been pretty busy. I am going to give you a heads up, soccer season for me starts next week and I have Dinner Theatre rehearsals all through next week as well. Soccer practice doesn't start until 3:40-5 and then Dinner Theatre rehearsals start at 6-9 so I'll be SUPER busy and tired. I probably won't have a Saturday update next week either because Friday and Saturday is Dinner Theatre performance and I'll be gone all day on Saturday. So I'm giving you a heads up on what my week will look like next week. Thanks for understanding and thanks for reading! xo
