My Roommate

You move in your best friend, Georgia, and your new roommate, Justin. What will happen between you and Justin? Will this effect your friendship with Georgia?

2. New home

I pack a few sweaters into a box and look around the room. That was the last of my belongings to finish packing. My room now looks very bare and empty. I sigh, I’m going to miss this room. I have lived in this room for twenty years and I made a lot of memories here. I am going to miss seeing my mom and dad every day but I’ll only be on the other side of town so I will see them often. I hear a knock on my door and turn to see my mum enter the room.

She puts a hand on my shoulder and smiles at me. “I know you are going to miss this room but you are going to have so much fun with Georgia.”

“I know,” I say with a slight grin. My mom drops her hand and I pick up the box. I carry the box out of the house and put it in the back seat. I shut the car door and turn towards my mother. A sad smile is on her face and i see tears in her eyes.

I hug her tightly and whisper, “Mom, this isn’t goodbye. I will only be on the other side of town. We will see each other all the time.”

“I know, sweetie. I just... am going to miss seeing you everyday.” We let go of each other and she takes me hands in hers.

“And I am going to miss seeing you everyday too. But we will make plans to have a weekly dinner and I’ll stop by frequently.”

“I would love that.” She sweeps a piece of my hair behind my ear and kisses my forehead. “I love you so much. I’ll see you soon, my dear.”

I step away from my mum and slide into the driver’s seat. “I love you too, mom. See you soon. Tell dad I said bye.” I wave out the window and pull the car onto the road.

Fifteen minutes later, I pull her my new home’s driveway. I hear a squeal as I park the car and look up to see Georgia running across the lawn towards the car. She opens her arms to me while I open the door. “You’re here!” I hug her and we jump up and down. I smile widely and let her go.

“This is going to be so awesome!” I scream.

“I know.” She opens the back door of the car and grabs a box. I grab a box too and follow her up the stairs and into the living room. The living room is small but cozy. The tan sofa sits in the middle of the room, facing a small tv on dark wood table surrounded by stacks of movies on one side and a plant on the other. The sunlight streams through the big windows and brightens the room. A wall is full of beautiful pictures taken by Georgia. The frames are big and small and different colors. I smile at one of a familiar women laughing with flour on her face.

Georgia puts down the box with a thump and stands next to me, “I love that picture of you.” She puts an arm around my shoulder.

“I do too. That day was so much fun. My mum loved the birthday cake we made.”

“Come on, I’ll show you to your new room!” She guides me down the hallway, the walls covered with more pictures. We pass a room and i hear music playing softly. We stop at the next door and she opens it. The room is small but the window is big and sends a lot of light into the room. The floor is a light wood and the walls are a soft gray. I put down the box and spread my arms and spin. A smile spreads across my face, “I love it!”

Georgia smiles at me, “I knew you would!” She grabs my arm, “Come on, let’s get all your boxes out of the car and unpack,

I fall onto my bed and sigh. We finally finished unpacking and decorating my room. Georgia lays beside me, typing on her phone. She smiles and I poke her.

“Who is making you smile?” I ask, wiggling my eyebrows.

She puts her phone down and looks at me with a dreamy look her eyes and wide grin. “I’ve been talking to this guy named Cameron.” Georgia looks back down at her phone taps it a few times. “He’s in the navy and he’s being stationed in London right now.” She holds up her phone and a picture of a man smiling sweetly. His ocean blue eyes are bright and his hair is dark brown. “He’s such a sweetheart. We have been talking for two weeks now and he always sends good morning texts and he wants to meet me soon.” She sits up and puts her phone in her lap. I embrace her.

“Aw, that’s great. I’m so happy for you, G.” We hug for a minute and let go of each other.

Georgia stands up, “I don’t know about you but I am so hungry.”

I giggle and stand up too. “Me too. We should order a pizza.”

“I was thinking the same thing!”

Georgia and I lay on the couch, her legs over mine. We are laughing at a funny movie on tv while eating pepperoni pizza. I hear a door close and footsteps. I look up to see Justin standing in the kitchen, opening and closing the fridge door. His brown hair is tousled and he is wearing a dark gray short sleeve that hugs his toned body and dark jeans. He is way hotter then I remember.

“Hey J.” Georgia says, “We ordered pizza if you want some.”  He turns toward us and I turn my attention back to the movie. Justin grabs a plate and loads it up.

“Thanks,” He says, glancing at Georgia and then me. His hazel eyes met mine and a slight smile plays on his lips. “Hey, you’re Natalie, right?”

I smile and try not to blush. He remembers me! “Yes, I just moved in this morning.”

“I’m Justin. I hope you enjoy it here.” He flips his hair and sits down next to me. “What are you two watching?”

Georgia’s eyes don’t leave the tv as she says, “Oh, just a movie with Melissa McCarthy. She’s a riot.”

“She’s great,” he agrees and then takes a bite of pizza. We all laugh at a funny scene where her character tackles a criminal. I glance at Justin, watching him laugh. His arm brushes against mine and I feel a blush on my cheeks. Butterflies erupt in my stomach. I smile to myself, happy that I made this move.
