Super Zero

I am hopelessly crushing.
No, not in love. This can’t be love.
Can it?
But before I get to that, there’s that bit about my past.
And, of course, the superheroes. But then something BIG happens, and I’m not sure life will ever be the same.

6. Forget-Me Knots

I tied a knot in my friendship bracelet I’d made in second grade. I turned it over in my hand as the plane took off, as the Pacific passed below me, as the clouds were cut by the jet.

I fell asleep with it in my hands.

I got to Oxford Airport at about 3am.

I grabbed my luggage, walked back through the airport, and stepped outside into the pouring rain.

Oh fuck.

Grey stood in front of me. Hair soaked, shirt clinging to his muscles, eyelashes matted with rain.

“This was the very opposite of a good decision, Kieri.”

The UberCab we took to the nearest “good quality” motel was awkward, to say the least. Surprisingly, nobody recognized Grey as Chip.

The motel only had one-bed rooms available. The lady at the check-in desk gave us a rude once-over, smirking conspiratorially.

“Young lovers, eh? Don’t be too loud!” And with that and a wink, she sent us up. We were too tired to correct her.

Room 342 was small, cold, and had one cozy-looking but small bed. Grey took off his shirt, revealing his perfect abs.

Damn. I decided to play it cool. I slowly turned around and took off my shirt, revealing my bra.

“What are you doing?” Grey asked, alarmed.

“Getting ready for bed, dummy. I forgot to pack pj’s.”

Grey coughed weirdly and looked uncomfortable.

“Guess we’re sharing the bed, huh?” I said, hiding my Cheshire-cat grin.

I took off my pants next, revealing my lacy red thong that perfectly matched my bra.

I strutted to the bathroom like a cat.

This trip was going even better than planned.
