Tick Tock

Tick tock goes the clock
And what then shall we see?
Tick tock until the day
That thou shalt marry me
Tick tock goes the clock
And what now shall we play?
Tick tock goes the clock
Now Summer’s gone away?
Tick tock goes the clock
And all the years they fly
Tick tock and all too soon
You and I must die
Tick tock goes the clock
He cradled and he rocked her
Tick tock goes the clock
Even for the Doctor…
Tick tock goes the clock
And all the years they fly.
Tick tock, and all too soon
Your love will surely die.
Doctor brave and good
He turned away from violence
When he understood
The falling of the Silence

            Tick tock goes the clock

And now what shall we play?

Tick tock goes the clock

Now that summer’s gone away.

The Doctor steps off the TARDIS and checks the date. It’s been exactly a month since he left River in Stormcage, went off to marry her and now he’s back. The Doctor parks the TARDIS and opens the door. He finds River pacing back and forth in her cell. Her stomach has a slight bulge and her hair is pulled back away from her face. He just stares at her and hopes that she doesn’t spot him. He sneaks into the shadows and turns the TARDIS invisible. River looks up and looks around. She comes to the cell door and searches the shadows with her eyes. She places a hand over her abdomen and then sits down on the bed. She begins talking to her bump…she feels the baby’s every move and sighs.

“I wish you were here Doctor? You’ve been gone a month. I wish you would come back.” A single tear falls down River’s face and the Doctor steps out of the shadows. He uses a special device so he can easily slip into River’s cell without being noticed. He uses his silencer to make River go deaf for a moment and then he uses his blinder. He sits down on the bed and takes her hand…he wraps his arms around her and she lays her head on his shoulder. He wipes away her tears and then the silencer and the blinder stop working. River looks up at him and kisses his lips. He pulls her closer.

“River…I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to be gone so long.”

“I went a month without you…I don’t know what’s wrong. I’ve gone years without seeing you.”

“And yet I didn’t spend a day without you. Time really has taken everything away from us hasn’t it.” River doesn’t respond she just buries her head into the Doctor’s shoulder. The Doctor admires his wife…he loves her and he thinks about her and she’s cradled in his arms. A lump in his throat forms and he tries not to cry. He lets go over River and straightens his bow tie. He tries not to cry and then he barely whispers.

“River…my darling River. I’m so sorry I left you. I’m sorry I left you.”

“You made a promise when we were married. You promised that you would come back and take me away from here. You waited…I waited so long. I gave up hope that you would ever come. Every time we went somewhere I thought you would remember.”

“River…you must understand. In my timeline…I’ve only just married you.”

“In my time line Doctor. You married me 12 years ago.”

The Doctor makes his decision and ultimately decides. Since his wife is with child…and he doesn’t want to miss a thing. It would be safer for River to travel with him. He doesn’t say a word to River and he knows she’ll put up a fight. He takes a tranquilizer out of his bag and gives the dosage through a needle into her neck. When she’s out cold he picks her up and carries her to the TARDIS. He turns off the invisibility and kicks in the door. He carries River to the med bay and puts her down on the exam table. He kisses her cheek and whispers.

“I’m sorry River. You told me not too but I love you too much. You’re safe…you’re safe.”

He kisses her cold lips and checks her pulse. He checks the pulse of the baby and smiles when he hears two-time lord hearts beating at the correct pace. He closes the med bay door and walks back to the control room. He punches codes and coordinates into the console and smiles as he pulls the lever.

“Operation Escape Stormcage complete.”

He pulls the lever again and grins as the TARDIS takes off. He’s taking his wife home…to a place beyond the stars…to a place where she can’t get hurt and to a place where they can raise their child together. Forever…in perfect peace and harmony. Maybe even to a place where River won’t die. He’s going to attempt to rewrite time. Hopefully he doesn’t ruin any timelines in the process.
