Tick Tock

Tick tock goes the clock
And what then shall we see?
Tick tock until the day
That thou shalt marry me
Tick tock goes the clock
And what now shall we play?
Tick tock goes the clock
Now Summer’s gone away?
Tick tock goes the clock
And all the years they fly
Tick tock and all too soon
You and I must die
Tick tock goes the clock
He cradled and he rocked her
Tick tock goes the clock
Even for the Doctor…
Tick tock goes the clock
And all the years they fly.
Tick tock, and all too soon
Your love will surely die.
Doctor brave and good
He turned away from violence
When he understood
The falling of the Silence

5. A Baby

Tick tock goes the clock

He cradled and he rocked her

            Tick tock goes the clock

            Even for the Doctor…

The Doctor gets up off the TARDIS floor where he sat. He’s been waiting in the same position for months. He never left Stormcage…he just put on the invisibility cloak. He stands up and turns off the invisibility. He straightens his bowtie and steps out. River’s asleep on her cot. Her huge baby bump is barely concealed under all her blankets. He can’t believe that the Stormcage guards let her keep their baby. River stirs and turns over. The Doctor opens the cell door and walks in. He sits at the foot of River’s bed and watches as she sleeps. He’s tempted to place a hand on her baby bump but even in sleep she could still kill an army of Daleks.

He gets up and leaves the cell but before he steps into the TARDIS he hears footsteps and hears River’s melodious voice.

“Hello Sweetie.” He turns and lets the tears roll down. River’s abdomen was huge and the baby was growing safe inside her. He places two hands on River’s bump and smiles at her.

“How’s the baby?”

“She’s fine.” The Doctor’s eyes light up.

“She?” River nods.

“Yes, the Stormcage officials gave me an ultrasound. Thought it was twins and then realized it was a time lord girl. She’s healthy but they’re going to take her at birth.”

“I never left…I never left.” River’s eyes grow big and she realizes…

“You never left…then how am I pregnant?”

“Because…our daughter is a fixed point in time. No matter what happens…you River are going to be a mother.” River sighs and leans against the Doctor. He puts his arms around her shoulders and lets her rest. Finally, he picks her up and helps her walk to the TARDIS. He puts her in bed and kisses her forehead.

“Goodnight River.”
“Goodnight Sweetie.”

River opens her eyes in darkness and looks around. She sits up and feels the Doctor stir on his side of the bed. She takes a deep breath and sighs. She’s not at Stormcage, she’s not in trouble. She’s safe and no one is going to hurt her or her baby. River looks down at her expanding abdomen and smiles. She feels the baby kick and smiles again. She turns to the Doctor and finds him sleeping peacefully. Soon they’ll have their little girl. A little baby girl running around the TARDIS, flying through time and space with her parents. The Doctor and River rewriting time one day at a time. Their daughter kicks River’s abdomen and River lets out a shriek. She rubs her stomach and feels an uncomfortable sensation. A sharp pain rips through her lower abdomen and she bites back a scream.

River stands to her feet and wraps her dressing gown around her. She opens the TARDIS door and finds them floating among the stars. She feels another sharp pain and cries. She walks through the TARDIS corridors slowly and pushes open a door into a bright pink nursery with all the things a baby could ever need. She falls and before she passes out she screams.

The Doctor wakes up with a start and runs in the direction of River’s cry for help. He runs into the nursery and finds his beloved wife on the ground with her eyes closed and blood seeping from a wound on her head. The Doctor cleans the wound and stops the blood but he must take River to a real doctor for medical help. He uses his sonic screwdriver to scan River and finds that she’s in labor. He cleans up the blood and cradles River in his arms. He kisses her lips and cries.

“River…oh River…please wake up…I need you.”

The Doctor holds River for a few more moments before laying her down on a bed and rolling the bed into his control room. He quickly types in planets with advanced medical services and comes up with Gallifrey, Demon’s Run and Earth. Does he honestly want his daughter to be a citizen of Earth? Does he want his daughter to be a citizen of Gallifrey or born on Demon’s Run like her mother. Maybe he should go to Earth and stop by Martha’s house. She’ll know what to do and she does know the Doctor. He types in the coordinates for Earth and presses a few buttons. He pulls a few levers and lets the TARDIS fly. She lands with a thud and the Doctor opens the door. He stares around at the garden and smiles. He was at Martha’s. Should he grab River or should he introduce himself to Martha first?

Before he walks out the TARDIS door the Doctor turns back to stare at River. She is so peaceful sleeping, even if she is in a slight coma. The Doctor straightens his bowtie and knocks on the door. Martha opens the door and her eyes give away the fact that she doesn’t know who he is. She stares at him and waits for him to speak. Maybe if she saw his TARDIS she would recognize him.

“Can I help you?” The Doctor clears his throat.

“Yes, I need a doctor…my wife. She’s hit her head and she’s pregnant.” Martha doesn’t ask any questions. She just grabs her medical bag and puts her stethoscope around her neck. The Doctor runs into the TARDIS and Martha stops to stare. She looks at the TARDIS and then follows the Doctor in. He leans against the console and smiles. Martha smiles and runs to give him a hug. After the hug breaks Martha sees River and immediately sets to work. After a few minutes River opens her eyes and looks up at the ceiling. The Doctor takes her hand and kisses her lips.

“Hello Sweetie.” He puts his strong hand over her naval and rubs the baby bump. He can feel his daughter moving. She’s coming.

“River…Martha’s here. She’s going to deliver our daughter.”

“Thank you Martha!”

            Five minutes later…

The Doctor holds baby Amelia Roria in his arms and rocks her back and forth. He kisses her tiny hands and she stares at him with her big green eyes. Her curly and wild red hair goes everywhere. The Doctor stares over at River and River smiles back at him. The Doctor walks over and puts little Amelia into her mother’s arms.

“Amelia Roria Song…this little one is your mummy. Not ‘big milk thing’. She’s your mummy and I’m your daddy. I’m proud of your mummy. She’s brave.” The Doctor puts his daughter into his wife’s arms and kisses River’s brow. River stares at her daughter and the little angel coos.

“Hello Sweetie. I’m your mummy.” River holds her daughter and bites back the tears. She can’t believe that a man from Gallifrey and a woman from Demon’s Run managed to make the perfect time baby. The perfect time baby that’s a citizen of earth. Martha quietly slips out the door and the Doctor takes his daughter back into his arms. His beautiful daughter. A reminder of his wife and his wife’s parents. A little girl that no matter what will always remind him of his past.
