The Doctor marries his first wife and they have children...his wife dies...
The Doctor marries River and they have children....River dies

Who will travel all of time and space with the Doctor now? Who will help him raise his children?

9. One More Time Tot

3 years later…

The Doctor steps out of the TARDIS and looks for his wife. He turns around for River. She’s not anywhere. He walks into Luke’s room and finds his son playing with toys. Sonic screwdrivers, bits and pieces of metal and a vast array of toys that stimulate a growing little time lord. Luke looks up at his father with his big grey eyes and smiles. The Doctor walks in and plops down on the floor. He brings his son into his lap and rocks him back and forth. The Doctor sings a song that was once sang when River was just a tiny tot herself. The Doctor listens as he feels both of his son’s hearts beat perfectly.

“"Tick tock goes the clock
And what then shall we see?
Tick tock until the day
That thou shalt marry me

Tick tock goes the clock
And what now shall we play?
Tick tock goes the clock
Now Summer’s gone away?
Tick tock goes the clock
And all the years they fly
Tick tock and all too soon
You and I must die
Tick tock goes the clock
He cradled and he rocked her
Tick tock goes the clock
Even for the Doctor…

Tick tock, goes the clock
And all the years they fly.
Tick tock, and all too soon
Your love will surely die.

Doctor brave and good
He turned away from violence
When he understood
The falling of the Silence.”

Luke’s asleep in the Doctor’s arms and he sighs…hoping his innocent sweet son didn’t hear his father’s melancholy poem. He puts his son in his bed and goes off to check on his girls. He walks into the girls’ room and finds a heavily pregnant River reading them a poem. Both girls are listening intently. The Doctor can feel all four of his twins’ hearts beating. He listens as River recites a poem. It’s as dark as the one he sang to his son.

“The man who lies will lie no more when this man lies at Trenzalor.

The girl who died he tried to save. She’ll die again inside his grave.”

River kisses his daughter’s goodnight and wraps her arms around his neck. They share a passionate kiss and River whispers.

“I don’t want this to ever end.” She clutches her abdomen and doubles over in pain. Blood stains her white nightgown. Her face grows pale as the Doctor carries her inside the TARDIS. He puts her on the hospital bed and the robots immediately begin operating. River opens her eyes to find a beautiful and tiny baby girl sleeping in the bassinet next to her bed. The Doctor’s singing her a song…a song that River knows all too well.

“Between the idea and the reality

Between the motion and the act

Falls the shadow”
