The Doctor marries his first wife and they have children...his wife dies...
The Doctor marries River and they have children....River dies

Who will travel all of time and space with the Doctor now? Who will help him raise his children?

4. A New Beginning

As the morning sun arises, River gets out of bed and opens the TARDIS door. She stares at the stars and thinks about two little time twins running the halls of the TARDIS. She thinks about what it means to settle down…maybe she can convince the Doctor to take her to Durilium, they can raise the twins there. The Doctor walks in and immediately walks over to the control center. He types in coordinates and pulls the lever. The TARDIS door slams and River is thrown back but the Doctor catches her before she falls. He holds her in his arms and she smiles up at him. He leans down and plants a soft kiss on her smooth wet lips. She wraps his arms around his neck and he places his hands on her hips. He lifts her up and carries her to their bedroom. Before anything happens the TARDIS stops and the Doctor runs to the door. He opens it and smiles.

River walks out of the TARDIS and into a beautiful garden, there’s a white picket fence and vines growing up the cottage walls. The cottage has a straw roof and a beautiful circular door. The red mailbox has three letters in gold and River turns back with a questioning look on her face as the Doctor steps out of the TARDIS.

“Where are we?” The Doctor checks his watch and states.

“New Wales…the year 5305, a land were robots do everything and the people relax in their cottages. On an earthen colony, on the moon. Look up and you can see the stars…look out and you can see where earth once orbited.”  River looks at the moon’s horizon and sees the remainder of earth orbiting around a tiny little sun. She walks into the cottage and finds two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a dining room, an office, a place for the TARDIS to park and… The Doctor wraps an arm around his wife’s waist and she stares at him coyly.

“What is this?” He smiles and shrugs…

“I thought it would be nice to raise our children…somewhere safe…maybe settle down…I can retire.”

“What about Stormcage? I must get back…or they’ll come for me.”

“River…don’t worry about a thing…they won’t even know you’re here.” He pulls two passports, two ID’s and two licenses out of his pocket. He hands River hers and smiles. She reads it and grins.

“Mrs. Melody Smith…age 33…species human? How are they going to explain your two hearts?” He hands her his ID.

“Mr. John Smith age 45…species Time Lord.” She slaps him and walks into the bedroom. One king sized bed with two decently sized wardrobes…she opens a wardrobe and finds a vast array of maternity clothes and regular sized clothes all in black, white, khaki, brown or grey. She opens the jewelry box and finds diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and rubies. She finds an array of shoes and she turns to find the Doctor or John smiling at her…

“Doctor, this is…” He straightens his bowtie and walks to her. He wraps his arms around her waist and says “Sh.” He leans down and kisses her, she accepts with a moan.

“That was a damn good kiss. This place is perfect.”

“I’m glad you think so. I mean to please you River. You haven’t seen the best part.” She kisses him and he leads her to the master bath. A huge Jacuzzi meant for two…a large shower…a double vanity and a baby tub that easily fits twins. Robots were everywhere, cleaning, not making any noise and staying out of the way. River smiles and says.

“Modern and futuristic…I love it.” She kisses his cheek and walks around the house. She walks into the other bedroom and finds the perfect nursery. Two egg shaped cradles with soft sheets and advanced technology…a bottle warmer…a diaper warmer and supplier. A huge screen that orders any clothing in any color and any size. A special delivery device…the walls could be changed colors and a beautiful view of the outside world. As of right now the walls of the entire house were white and the furnishing were plain. The Doctor walks in and sees his wife crying tears of joy.

“Hello River…” She turns and wipes away a tear. She places one hand on her small abdomen and lets the tears fall.

“Hello Sweetie.” He moves closer to her and wipes away the tears. He holds her face in his hands. She moves her arms up to touch his…he leans in and lets his dry cold lips press against her soft and supple ones. He whispers…

“Is this what our life is going to be? Stolen kisses, babies, nothing but love and giggles.” She grins and replies…

“A whole other side to me…you didn’t know about.” He kisses her again. When the kiss breaks she whispers.

“This won’t be that bad…normal…routine…a life that I never thought you and I would be able to have.”

“River…didn’t you know that I’m full of surprises?” She stands on her toes and kisses him. When she breaks, he pulls her in and kisses her again. They stand together with their noses touching and their eyes opened…gazing into each other’s eyes. They kiss again. When the kiss breaks she runs off to explore the rest of the house. The Doctor realizes that finally…he’s done something right. He can’t believe that in six months…they’re going to be parents.
