The camp was new.

Mark Christy, the camp counsellor, had dreamed of a summer that was full of happy feelings for the teenagers who would spend a week there in June. After the 1929 stock market crash had drained a lot of money from Wall Street, and the beginning of The Great Depression of 1930-31, Mark wanted to be successful. He had short, blonde hair, bright, blue eyes, and was average in height. Near the camp was the glistening lake. A brown ladder was in the deep water; the water was near the dark woods. Mark gripped black firewood from the woods in his hands. He was preparing for the campfire in the middle of the campgrounds. Once he did that, he knew that if anyone needed his help, he'd be more than willing to help them with their problems. Mark felt the hot sun beat down on his face. He applied sunscreen all over himself. And, as the campers swam in the water, they were unaware of the horror that would plague the camp two decades later.
