2. Surprise

In a matter of moments he disappeared into the crowd. I shrugged it off and continued my way to the magazine's office building. I was so stressed because I'm already late, something tells me Richard isn't gonna be very happy with me.

The moment I entered my office, I found Jessy waiting for me, her million dollar smile reaching her eyes.
I gave her a smile back, you can't frown when she smiles like that.

"Morning honey." She said still smiling. It was getting kind of creepy, obviously something was up.

"Spit it out, Jess." Suddenly, I was more nervous than ever right now.

Jess chuckled slightly, "Richard is waiting for you in his office. He has been asking for you ever since I got here an hour ago. "

I closed my eyes, letting out a sigh of annoyance.
"Be right back." I said with a weak smile, turning around before walking nervously to my boss's office.

I knocked on the door, seconds later it opened to reveal a slightly annoyed Richard, talking on the phone.

When his eyes found mine, his features immediately softened. He sent me a grin, signaling for me to come in.

Fiddling with my fingers, I nodded with a weak smile before walking further into his office.

"Let me call you back." I heard him say before ending the call.

He sat on his chair, poured some water in his glass and turned to look at me.

"Why are you still standing there? sit down, we need to talk."

I sat quietly, waiting for him to talk. I thought my nerves were gonna blow if he doesn't talk anytime soon, so I started by saying "I'm sorry, I just forgot my day off was yesterday and.." Cutting me off, Richard chuckled "Oh please, what are you talking about now? I have more important issues to discuss with you .."
Okay. Now I was worried.

I began wondering what he would want to discuss with me, it's not like everyday my boss greets me with a wide grin and decides to randomly discuss 'important issues' with me.

He interrupted my thoughts clearing his throat. "You're going to Paris." he said smiling.
What ? Huh you have got to be kidding me!
"Um, sorry?"

"You heard me. So start packing."

"I'm going to my office Jessy and I have many work to do." I said hoping I'll get off the hook. But boy, was I wrong. It was a stupid strategy anyway.

"You're going to Paris not to your office, you have an important event to cover there." He said looking very, very serious.

"But, Richard I.."

"No buts. I don't trust anyone but you on this one. Refusing is not an option"

Irritated and defeated, I walked into my office where Jessy was waiting for me.

Clearly rather excited, she jumps on me, arms around my neck.

"Congrats sweety, This is your big shot!" She exclaimed happily.

I'm guessing Richard has already spread out the word about me going to Paris for my next article.
God, he can be such an ass sometimes.

"Thanks, Jess. But honestly? I don't like the idea." I said with a frown.

Okay, time for a quick confession.

I've always imagined my first time going to Paris would be with the one I love. obviously, there isn't anyone now, but still. I'm not an outcast or anything, just never actually gone out. I'm not the party type, nor an easy person to get along with, therefore, never been kissed either.

Huh, I know, it may sound cheesy. Ring a bell? 'Never been kissed', journalist.. Drew Barrymore much? But I doubt I'm gonna go undercover as a teenager who will hopelessly fall in love with her teacher. Nah.

It's just that, what's the point in going to Paris, all the beauty of it, with no one special to share it with?

"Don't be like that, Jenn. You'll have fun." She said with an encouraging smile.

"It would be so much easier if you're coming too though, it's not fair" I say irritated.

If I get lost there, kidnapped, or even strangled, I'm so gonna haunt Richard's sorry ass for the rest of his life.

God, what am I thinking? I have to be more optimistic. The beauty of Paris most certainly will make me forget all about the urge to murder Richard.
For the record, he may be our boss, intimidate us when he's angry, but he's one of my close friends. So, killing him won't be too weird.

Yeah?, again with the killing.
God, am I hopeless or what? I might as well accept the fact I'm gonna go, wether I like it or not.

"You're right." I tell her with a weak smile, "you're sleeping over at mine though" I add with a wide grin.

God knows how much time it'll take me to get back, so spending time with my favorite friend is exactly what I'm gonna do.

"Of course, we have to spend some time together before you leave, I have something to tell you too." She says blushing.

"Jess?" I say stretching out the end of her name in a curious tone.

"Later, love" she says getting up, kisses my cheek and walks out of my office.

Oh, this should be interesting.

Walking out of the building, I see a familiar face a few feet away. He had the same clothes he had this morning. Was he in the hospital?

"You're staring, cupcake." Suddenly someone whispers in my ear. He was standing a few inches away from me, his face closer to mine.

"I, I wasn't.." I trail off embarrassed.
Mentally, I punch myself in the head repeatedly, before focusing on him again.

"You're cute when you blush" he says sending me a dimpled smile before he walks away in the other direction.

If there's one thing you should know about me, is that I have a weakness for dimples. Yeah, I know. How Ironic.
