9. Katherine

We walk down a hallway in the MCU that I've never seen.

The prison.

The prisoners look out of their cells.  I can feel their eyes watching me.

We reach a big metal door.  Jones keys in a pin number and scans his hand print.  The door opens to reveal another hallway that's very dark, with only a few rooms.  We step inside and the door shuts behind us.

"Ragan, I advise extreme caution.  This girl could be very dangerous.  Don't reveal your identity to her." Jones says to me.

"Yes, Sir."

I follow him to the second room, where he keys in a code.  The door opens to reveal a girl in a chair.  We step inside the cell and the door slides shut.

"Katherine Newton?  Do you know where you are?" Jones asks the girl.  She glares up at him.

"The MCU.  I've been here before.  When I was 6 and you wanted my dad to be put into your database."

"Katherine, we just want to ask you a few questions."

"Out with it already.  You think I'm responsible for something, right?"

"Where have you been between the hours of 10 and 6 o'clock p.m. for the past two weeks?"

"Uh, at home, usually asleep.  What's this all about?"

"When was the last time you transformed fully?"

"Do you mind if we take a DNA sample?"

"A DNA sample?  What so you can use me as a lab rat?"

"No, for forensic reasons."

"Before I give you anything, you need to tell me what I'm being held for."

"We're investigating a series of murders that have been committed by a Chagnia."

"Murder?" Katherine gasps.  "I've never killed anybody, never.  My father was very peaceful.  He wouldn't hurt a fly unless he had to, and I follow in his footsteps."

"Part of your transformation includes claws, correct?"

"Yes, but-"

"Just give us the sample.  If you don't match, we'll let you go." Jones waits for an answer.

"Fine." Katherine consents.

We exit the holding cell and go to the lab, where Ming grabs a cart of  medical instruments and test tubes.

Ming injects a needle into Katherine's arm.

"Where's your transform jewel?" Ming asks.  Katherine pulls back her hair to reveal a red gem in her ear.

"This will hurt." Ming informs Kathrine, who nods.  Ming pulls out a small knife, about the size of a hairpin, and slowly pushes it into the gem.  Katherine screams in pain until Ming removes it, a tiny piece on the tip no bigger than a grain of rice. Ming drops it into a glass tube and puts it, along with the DNA sample into a container.  She brings over to a machine and grabs the DNA evidence from the crime scenes.

After a few minutes, she comes back over.

"She's not a match, not even close."

"So this means I can leave?" Katherine asks.  Jones nods.

"Thank you for your help." Jones thanks her.

"You can thank me by never dragging me back here again." Katherine says, exiting the room with Prat.

Jones turns back to Ming.

"Not even close?"

"Nope."

"Now we have no leads.  We're right back where we started."

"I'll run it against all of our prisoners, just in case."

"Thank you, Doctor.  As for you, Hart, go home.  Smith will meet you there." I nod and exit the laboratory, making my way back down the dark hallway.
