10. Fun Times

I stand outside of Brimswood University, waiting for Tim to come out.

He didn't have practice today, and Jones let me out earlier than usual, which gives me time to spend with Tim.

The doors open and a group of kids come out.  Tim comes out with one of his friend's from high school, Mason. He was a tuba player in the band, and they used to hang out all the time.

They're laughing about something, and I probably don't want to know what.

Tim looks up from his phone and spots me.  He smiles.  He turns to Mason, who mutters and laughs.  Tim flips him off, smiling, and walks towards me.

"Hey, what a surprise.  I wasn't expecting to see you here." Tim greets me.  He leans in and kisses me.

"Yeah, well Jones let me go early."

"Another dead end?"

"Oh, well I'm sure you guys will hit a break soon." He reassures me.

"I hope so."

"So, where's your shadow?" Tim asks, looking around the parking lot as he climbs into the car.  I step inside and start up the engine.

"Not here.  He's helping Prat bring Katherine home." We pull out of the campus and start making our way home.

"So he'll be gone for a few hours....." Tim concurs, "do you know what this means?"

"We can actually be in the same room without feeling awkward because of Smith's unapproving stares."

"And you don't have to tie your waistband." I add on.  Tim laughs.

"That means I can breathe!  Hallelujah!" We talk some more and reach the abandoned apartment building.  We make our way upstairs and into the apartment.  Tim throws his backpack on the ground, kicks off his shoes and hops over the back of the couch.  He plops down and pats the cushion next to him.  I laugh.

"I swear sometimes you can literally be a five year old." I roll my eyes and sit down next to him.  He puts his arm around me and turns on the TV.

"This is nice." He says, thinking out loud.  I smile.

"It is."

We watch TV for a few hours until Tim decides that he wants to practice his music.  He plays for a bit before he offers the horn to me.

"Oh no, those days are far behind me." I say, pushing it back towards him.

"Oh come on, it's fun.  Remember?"

"It was a cover."

"Come on, a few notes." He holds the horn out again.  I roll my eyes and accept it.  I attempt to play, and it's pretty bad.  Tim just laughs.

We fool around some more before going to bed.  We both go into the bedroom and climb into the bed.  Tim wraps his arms around me.

"Goodnight." He says, kissing me.  He lays his head down on the pillow and starts to fall asleep.
