2. First Day

Maddy's POV

"Here!" I said loudly as the teacher called my name while taking attendance. It was the first day of my junior year, and I was kind of nervous.

"Here," I heard a low voice say from next to me. It was my boyfriend, Jake. I still hadn't stopped gripping his hand since we got to school. I was a nervous wreck. My homeroom teacher, Ms. Jones was very strict and I had heard that every year she makes her student get up in front of the other 30 kids and tell them about themselves. To most people, that's not a big deal, but to me it was huge. I hated talking in front of people. My friends and family don't think of me as a shy person, and I'm not, unless I talk to lots of people at once. Once Ms. Jones finished with attendance, she called the first person on her list up to the front of the class. It was Will. He loved talking in front of people.

"So, tell us about yourself," she said. I didn't really pay attention. After a couple people, I was next. Jake smiled at me and let go of my hand as II walked to the front of the room. I took a deep breathe and started to talk.

"Hi. m-my name is Maddy Gray and I'm 16 years old. I have an older brother, a younger brother, and two little sisters..." I kept talking about myself. I just thought of some random things. "...And I'm dating Jake." I mention as I looked at my boyfriend who smiled and blushed as the whole class looked at him. He was the quarter back for our football team, so he was pretty popular. I heard a whistle in the back from one of my friends which made me turn bright red. The teacher said 'thank you' and I quickly went back to my seat. Jake got up next. I turned to my best friend, Elanna that was sitting on the other side of me. Her and I were complete opposites. I was shy, she was loud and outgoing. I was into the good guys, she liked the bad ones, etc. She nudged me and said, "This stuff is for 3rd graders," and she rolled her eyes. I nodded in agreement. Anyways, Jake got up and walked calmly to the front of the class. He looked at me and smirked. Oh no, I thought.

"My name's Jake Brunelli, I'm quarterback for our football team, I'm 17, and that beautiful girl right there is my girlfriend." I hid behind my hands so nobody could see my beat-red face. I knew that was coming. He always took any opportunity that he could to voice that he was my boyfriend. He went back to his seat and took my hand again until class was over. The bell eventually rang and everyone rushed out of the class in order to get to their next class on time. Jake kissed me goodbye as he jogged up the stair to his biology class and Elanna and I went to our USA History class.

"Even though you guys have been dating for like 2 years you are still the cutest." I giggled.

"Sure. So, have you been seeing anyone?" She smiled and said, "Yeah actually I have."

"I'm not gonna tell you yet because I don't know if its serious yet."

"Fine." We walked in silence for a little bit.

"Are you going to Miranda's party next week?" she asked me.

"Oh, I don't know. Miranda and I aren't really on good terms right now. Remember what happened last year?"

"Oh yeah." We got to our class and took our seats. They were in rows or three. I sat in the middle desk and Elanna sat on my left. I thought it was going to be just us two when a couple books were slammed on the desk next to me. I ignored it because I already knew who it was.

"Max," I said.

"Maddy," he replied. I could hear the damn smirk in his voice. Elanna was glaring at him.

"Hey blondie," he said to her. She started to get up but I put my hand on her arm.

"It's fine." She sat back down but never lost the look on her face.

"Don't you have somewhere else to be right now, Max?"

"No, not really. I'm right where I want to be," he said as he moved his chair closer to mine. Max and I had dated for a couple months in my freshman year. I finally broke up with him after I realized how much of a jerk he was to everyone else. Ever since, he had been trying to get back together with me. I'm sure he would've beat Jake up by now if Jake wasn't a foot taller than him and a lot more muscular. But that didn't diminish him ego what so ever. He was still cocky and bold. His goal was to make me want him instead of Jake because he knew he couldn't convince Jake not to want me. Not to mention annoying.

"Can you please just move?" I asked him. The bell rang right then.

"Too late," he smirked. I sighed and slouched back in my chair. Towards the end of class, I felt Max's hand touch my leg. He hadn't done that in a long time. I knew I should've hit his hand or asked the teacher to move, but for some reason I couldn't. His hand moved up and down my thigh.

"What's wrong Maddy? Aren't you going to tell me to stop, or do you want me to keep going?" he whispered in my ear. I was saved by the bell. I gathered my stuff and rushed out of the room with Max close behind. I walked to my locker and ignored Max the whole way.

"Aren't you going to answer me?" he asked frustrated.

"Why would I want to talk to you?"

"Because you don't just like Jake. You want me too." I froze as I saw Jake coming towards us. I ran into his arms. Jake pulled me away from Max, who just laughed.

"Are you ok baby? Did that bastard do something to you?" I shook my head no. I could tell he was still worried.

"Lets not let him ruin our perfect first day, alright?" We met up with Elanna and went to lunch.

The final bell rang and I walked to my car. I dumped my bag in the backseat and drove home. It was a short distance considering I only lived about 5 minutes away from the school. Once I walked in the house I could smell that my mom had started to make dinner.

"Smells good, mom!" She smiled warmly and asked me how my day was. I told her everything except the things about Max, of course. I was trying my best to forget it. My family and I eventually ate dinner and I went upstairs. I finished my homework, which was extremely easy, and took a shower. Jake called me. He calls every night to tell me goodnight.

"Whatcha doin'?" I laughed.

"Just got out of the shower. What about you?"

"Uh, doing homework. Listen, I need to ask you something."

"Ok," I replied, confused.

"So um, I kinda need you to, uh, well since your grades are awesome, I was wondering if um..."

"Come on babe, what is it?" I questioned even though I knew what he was going to ask.

"Can you tutor me?" he asked really fast. "Coach said if I don't get my grades up soon to at least A's and B's, then he's going to have to kick me off the team. I mean you don't have to but-"

"Of course I will." He let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh my god I love you so much baby thank you!"

"Your welcome," I giggled. "It's not a problem at all."

"Can I come over tomorrow so we can start?"

"Bring all your books."

"Ok." He went silent for a minute. "You know we're not going to end up studying, right?" he asked in a low voice.

"Oh, I know." I could just imagine him smirking if as I were right next to him.

"Aw man, I got to go. I love you baby, goodnight."

"Love you too," I said as I hung up the phone. I jumped into bed while in a really good mood. I couldn't wait for tomorrow.
