It was 6:00 pm when Shelly Christianson felt scared. "Anson! Anson! Anson!", she yelled. She hated to be late; she hated to think Anson Wordsmith would leave her high and dry. The cold, bitter, southerly wind blew across her face; the wind was coming from Nathaniel Point, a make-out place near the haunted farmhouse where the scarecrow would lurk. At fifteen, she worked at Kansas Burgers on weekends. Her long, blonde hair fell down her small back; her hazel eyes focused on Silver's Drug Store which was the favourite haunt of teenagers on a high; her purple sweater kept her warm, as the temperature decreased to 62 degrees; her blue flares were new. She glanced at Forbes Road, then waited patiently for her boyfriend to arrive. If he ever did arrive, she thought to herself. Suddenly, and if by the graces of God Himself, Anson Wordsmith drove his red coloured 1974 Lincoln Continental Mark IV car around towards her. "Sorry I'm late, babe. I had to check the map route to Nathaniel Point". He kissed her, as the blackness of the early evening moon glowed near the old farmhouses. Anson had long, black hair, hazel eyes, and tall; he wore a red sweater. He opened the passenger-side door. "Thank you!", Shelly said. She noticed Anson was hesitant. "So, let's go!", she said. Anson, who was wearing grey flares, nodded. He drove down the gravelly road; he headed towards the sign. NATHANIEL POINT-2 MILES TO THE LEFT. By 6:09 pm, Anson noticed they were alone. "Here we are, babe", Anson said. The lights illuminated the rocky area. It was near the Restrooms; it was near Shriver's Lake. When he parked, they took off their seat belts. Then, as the doors opened, the seventeen year old teenage couple, walked to a part of the Point, (as it was famously called), and saw the blackness of the sky. "I'll grab the warm blankets", Anson stated. By 6:15 pm, several more cars, (and orangey vans), arrived at the scene. "Looks like the Kansas locals are doing the same thing as us", Shelly said. She was about to tell Anson something when she saw the scarecrow watching her from the farmhouse. She felt a chill in her blood. "Anson...look!", she said. And, as she stared at the scarecrow, it had disappeared from its place in the soft, muddy, ground. Shelly let Anson kiss her. "Wait!", she said. Anson kissed her twice on the mouth before she spoke. "Anson!", she cried. And then the shadow of the scarecrow loomed over them. Its sharp, silvery, blade loomed around them. Anson screamed...and then the growing horror of Kansas cast a dark shadow over the locals.
