9. Perfect Family

November 23rd came fast and it was Samantha’s very first birthday. In a month, she would have a baby brother or sister to celebrate life with forever. Sammy wore a new little sailor suit with a cute skirt and Rebecca wore a sensible dark green dress with her hair up to frame her beautiful baby bump. It was also concealed as best as possible because it wasn’t fashionable to be pregnant. Sammy dug into her cake and Rebecca leaned against Marcus smiling. Joseph had sent Sammy a birthday gift containing a new rattle with her name on it. He proudly had engraved Kayne onto the end of her name.

“She’s too big to have a rattle.”

“Marc…he wants to be a part of her life. He can be her uncle Joseph but he’s not her father.”

“I know…look at her all grown up. I better have a son in there.”

“And if not.”

“Two daughters are better than one. I’ll just be surrounded by women.”

Sammy’s face was covered in cake and her icy blue eyes sparkled as she giggled and threw cake.

“She’s a happy baby.”

“That she is.”

Finally, it was Christmas and instead of unwrapping presents under the Christmas tree, Samantha and Miranda had gone a nice leisurely stroll while Rebecca and Marcus received their own Christmas gift. Rebecca was giving birth a second time and Marcus anxiously waited outside the room to see his firstborn child. The baby wouldn’t be counted as his firstborn but it was the first child ever born to contain his DNA.

Megan came out with a big grin.

“Lady Kayne is ready for you my lord.”

Marcus pushed open the door and stared into Rebecca’s icy blue eyes. Her red hair was plastered to her face. He stared at her and at the baby in her arms. The baby wasn’t wrapped in a pink or blue blanket. Marcus would have to unwrap to find out.

“Do you know what it is?”

“I gave birth to it. I will say though…it has your eyes and my nose.”

“Can I?”

“It’s your baby.”

Marcus quickly ran to her side and took the baby from her arms. He unwrapped the blanket and then stared flabbergasted up at her.

“Merry Christmas Daddy. It’s a boy.”

Then a cry came from the other side of the room. Marcus left his son in his wife’s arms and then stared at her.

“Oh, didn’t I tell you…we were surprised with twins on Christmas. Merry Christmas. “

“What is it?”

“I don’t know…I wasn’t told. Hand him to me and go get the other one.”

Marcus retrieved another baby from Samantha’s old cradle. He leaned over his wife and son before unwrapping the blanket. Rebecca’s eyes filled with tears.

“It’s a boy too. Marcus we have two baby boys. How wonderful is that and on Christmas? Sammy is going to be so happy to get two baby brothers.”

When Sammy came back from her walk she was led to her parents’ room and reached for her mommy. She was lifted onto the bed and crawled over.

Sammy crawled to her mummy and then stopped. She stared at her two new baby brothers and pointed. She started crying so Marcus picked her up and started talking to her.

“What’s wrong Sammy?”

“Babies. I not baby no more?”

“No Samantha you have two new baby brothers.”

Samantha shook her head and squirmed to get away. If Marcus let her down she would run out of the house and into the street. She’ had done it before and nearly gotten run over.

“Samantha do you want to go to bed?”

Marcus held her in his arms while the happy family all shared Christmas joy over twin boys.

“What are their names?”

“Marcus named the one with green eyes Alexander Louis and the one with my eyes Philip James. So, Alex and Philip. We have Sammy our daughter, Philip our eldest son and Alex, Philip’s younger twin brother.”

“They’re perfect. Our family is perfect.”
