My Story

This is a memoir about my life

2. Chapter 2

In September, my family and I go up to camp. What that basically means is a bunch of families are getting drunk together and not giving a shit about anything else. I was kinda happy though. I had friends there. The friends who got to know me for me. I go to the pool area happily, waving at my friends. “Lauryn!” Damien, Kaylee, and Nicole yell. I run and am instantly pulled into a group hug. We instantly got into our bathing suits and jumped into the pool. It was freezing. Once we were done, I went back to my tent to grab some food. I had to take my brothers, but we went to Kaylee’s until 1 in the morning.

The next day I woke up and went to the arcade. Damien was already there. I had the biggest crush on him, so I was with him quite often. He kissed me for the first time in that game room. I was on cloud nine. I thought he really loved me, but he only wanted me for his own little thrill. We hung out with the rest of the crew for the rest of the day. Everyone knows that nothing good could happen when the sun goes down.

My mother and stepfather were drinking and dancing around the fire. I wasn’t very happy because someone said something about my scars on my leg that day. I took the first bottle of alcohol I could find, and I dumped it into my water bottle and downed it within minutes. At this point, I couldn’t see straight. I met Damien in the game room that night. Most of our time spent together was a blur, however I do remember what happened before I went back to my site. I’m not going to tell you about it because it’s too graphic.

The next morning, my head was killing me. Cade told me what happened that night, and I felt accomplished. It was weird. When I went to talk to Damien, he was kissing Nicole right in front of me. I wanted to throw up. I was so disgusted with myself. To think, he thought I was special. I shook my head and ran into the game room trying to settle my breathing.

“Are you okay? Sometimes venting to a stranger is better than your best friend.” A tall boy with an amazing beard walks up to me. I shook my head and motioned for him to sit. I proceeded to tell him about my entire life, and he just leaned over and hugged me. “I don’t know what to do. To think he was actually into me.” A few tears left my eyes that the boy wiped away.

“Lauryn, it’s okay. He isn’t worth your tears.” The boy hugged me again. “Thank you...” I paused, realizing that I didn’t know his name. “Mike.” We smiled at each other, but my heart still broke from the sight in front of me. I absent-mindedly started scratching at my arm, but Mike stopped me.

“Do you like revenge?” Mike smirked at me. “Oh, but of course. How?” I questioned. He helped me up, but kept his hand on mine. We walked over to the pool and he kissed my cheek. That sent Damien into a frenzy. We continued to ‘flirt’ as Damien left the pool. Curiosity led me to the game room behind him.

“What’s your problem?” I approached Damien with fire in my eyes. He rolled his and got in my face. “Little slut didn’t get enough did she? You’re fucking disgusting.” I shook my head and let out a strained laugh. “That’s not what you were saying last night, pig. You have a baby dick anyways.” A bunch of oo’s were heard throughout the game room as Damien left. Jovie and Mike gave me a hug lifting me slightly. I giggled and kissed Mike’s cheek. “Damn Lauryn, who knew you had that in you?” Jovie laughed and said something to Mike that made him blush. The rest of the night was filled with hot dogs and good music.

The next morning, I took a walk to the showers to be greeted by a happy Mike. “Hey gorgeous” He beamed and kissed my forehead. I blushed and hugged him. “I’m gonna take a shower. Meet me at my tent okay?” We said our goodbyes and I took my shower. While in the shower, I thought about this whole revenge gig and decided that Mike was a cutie and I may actually pursue him. So, I went to his camper. Jovie answered with a smile and Mike’s dad was close behind.

“Oh you must be Lauryn!” Mike’s father greeted me. “You’re prettier than he told me.” He beamed at me while I stood there giggling. “I’ll go get him.” A few minutes later, Mike comes out in some sweatpants. “Hey cutie. Wanna go to the game room?” I blush and nod. We walk to the game room with his arm protectively around me. That weekend ended in Mike and I holding each other because it was the last time we’d ever see each other. We exchanged numbers and left for our hometowns.
