The Vanisher

Back a few years ago, one of the world's most mysterious crimes ever committed left everyone stooped.
To this day, the goal and the criminal are still a mystery.
But, what people don't know what that the crime wasn't meant to be a crime in the first place.
The Vanisher, after many years, has returned with a mission, one that could change the world forever.

27. Remembering

I follow the coordinates and directions that were given to me, and, when I arrive at Campbell's lair, it all comes back to me.

The woods.

The cabin.

The cave.

Where this all started.

Campbell's lair is where my family was murdered, and where I became the Vanisher.

I NEVER wanted to come back here again.

I NEVER wanted to relive those memories again.

My family dying.

Me being ripped to shreds, emotionally and physically.

It's not exactly where anyone would want to go back to.

But I have to.

It's my mission now.

I creep into the cave, listening for nearing threats.

I walk around the curves and bends that have been burned into my memory.

Last time, I was running from Campbell.

Now, I'm running towards him.

I hear two men approach and I hide in the shadows.  When they walk by, I pounce, taking them out.

I continue on, doing the same to anyone who crosses my path.

I reach the end of the cave, which is being guarded by many of Campbell's henchmen.

"Hey-" one of them starts when they see me, but I attack him, and the others, taking them down one by one.  After all of them are out of the way, I rip my knife out of one of the men's leg and look at Campbell, who is standing in the center of the cave.

He starts to laugh.

"So, I guess it's true.  'The Vanisher' has returned, how exciting." He says, turning around to face me.  I spin the knife in my hand into a ready position and pull back my arm, ready to attack at any time.  I start to walk forward.

"I have to say," he continues, "I really thought I'd seen the last of you, what was it, 2 years ago?  Was that when we first met and you stole the moonstone away from me, burying it into your being?"

"I guess don't remember that you were the only one who lost something that night.  You took everything from me, you psychopathic son of a bitch." I'm right in his face now.  I could easily slice his throat and be done.

Campbell stares into my eyes.

"Oh, but I remember everything, Ragan."
