The Vanisher

Back a few years ago, one of the world's most mysterious crimes ever committed left everyone stooped.
To this day, the goal and the criminal are still a mystery.
But, what people don't know what that the crime wasn't meant to be a crime in the first place.
The Vanisher, after many years, has returned with a mission, one that could change the world forever.

22. Prowl

I run and jump from rooftop to rooftop, looking over the city.

The tall, tall buildings, making up the skyline.

The bright, neon signs lighting up everywhere you go.

All the people, busily making the way to and from places.

I enjoy watching over the city from above.

Like I can protect them, keep them in my sights, even though I'm not in theirs.

Of course, most of them think I'm the psycho criminal who jumped off and roof, mysteriously vanished, and is now back to murder the people of the city.

Oh, yeah, forgot about that.

People now think that I could have possibly killed Ms. Harborn.

It's just a theory, and it's reasonable, but it's still crazy.

I mean, I've only been spotted once, and, since my so-called 'return', four people have been murdered.

Oh yeah, 3 more murders have happened, sorry about that too.

Of course, one was a random janitor from an office building, and the other was a pregnant lady.

But then another teacher from school was murdered: Mr. Stone.

And, oh man, Tim was NOT making jokes about this one.

Everyone LOVED Mr. Stone.

In fact, he was our vice-principal, and he was such a cool dude.

I'm telling you, Stephen Campbell does not understand how a friendly work relationship works.

You can't just kill everyone, Campbell.

But I guess that's just what murderers do.  Murder people.

Who would've thought?

Anyway, I'm just doing my nightly patrol of the city, when suddenly an alarm goes off.

A man runs out of a store, gun in hand, holding a bag.

Another man runs out behind him, the shopkeeper I think, and the burglar points the gun at the man's head.

Without even thinking, I leap down from the roof, slamming feet first into the ground between the two.

The burglar stops for a second, eyes wide.

"You'''re-" He stutters, not being able to say it.  He begins to shake in fright.

"You're going to hand over the bag, now." I growl, my voice slightly deeper than usual.  I outstretch my hand.

The man looks at his gun, then at the bag, then at me.  He sticks out his arm and fires the gun.

I step out of the way, the bullet hitting the wall behind me.

I turn back around to face him.

"Big mistake."  Next thing I know, the man is staring right into my eyes.

I can smell the fear and sweat radiating off of him.

I grab him and throw him on the ground.  He jumps up and starts to try to fight me, but in about a minute, I have him pinned against the building.

"Now, give the shopkeeper back his money, or I'll rip out your throat with my teeth." I threaten, licking my fangs.

"Okay, okay!" He throws the bag at the shopkeeper and I step back.

"Don't EVER try something like that again.  Next time, I won't hold back." I watch the man scamper off into the distance, horrified.

I turn back to the shopkeeper, who is looking in the bag.  His eyes meet mine.

"I, uh......" He looks scared too.  "Um, thank you." He finally manages to get out.

I nod and step back into the shadows, disappearing from sight.
