The Vanisher

Back a few years ago, one of the world's most mysterious crimes ever committed left everyone stooped.
To this day, the goal and the criminal are still a mystery.
But, what people don't know what that the crime wasn't meant to be a crime in the first place.
The Vanisher, after many years, has returned with a mission, one that could change the world forever.

The school is a buzz the next morning, and I don't know why.

Crap, is it Salisbury steak for lunch again?

"This is HUGE."

"I can't believe it."

"This is the biggest news since Jessica went into labor with her baby!"

Okay, hold up.....Jessica had her baby?

And, what is this all about?

I see Tim walking towards me, earbuds in and texting.  I grab his arm and drag him over to the lockers.

"Hey, wha-" He looks up and sees it's me.  He takes out his earbud.

"Ragan, what's up?"

"What's everybody talking about?  How Jessica had her baby?"

"Jessica had her baby?" Tim looks at me.  "Oh my gosh, I gotta check her snapchat-"

"No, not that.  What is everyone talking about?"

"You didn't hear?  It's all over the news!" He unplugs his earbuds and shows me the video on his phone.

Oh.

No.

CRAP.

DOUBLE CRAP.

It's a video of 'The Vanisher' alright.

From last night.

"Apparently The Vanisher helped stop a robbery!  I knew she was a good guy the whole time, I just knew it!"

"Oh, yeah, cool.  That's awesome." I say, faking enthusiasm.

"I can't believe that the Vanisher is a she-wolf, with purple hair!  Like, where did the purple hair come from?"

"I have no idea." I answer honestly.  I've always wondered about that.

Where does that purple hair come from?

"Anyway, since you are an uncultured human being who doesn't know how to look up the news, there ya go."

"Okay, thank you Mr. Know-it-all." I say, walking away from him.

Man, if I though last time was bad with Director Jones, man, am I in for it this time.

"We have talked about this, Ragan, you're supposed to lay low and keep out of sight.  This-" he points to the screen on the wall, "is NOT laying low and staying out of sight!  What were you thinking?"

"The man was going to shoot the poor guy, I couldn't just sit there and watch it happen!"

"But now Campbell really knows you're out there, and you're prepared for a fight!"

"So?  Maybe now he'll stop murdering people and get the hell out of here so we can get him, and I can quit going to school."

"Ragan, you don't understand the whole point of this operation.  We were supposed to figure out Campbell's plan, stop it from happening, capture him and his crew, and disappear again, off the radar.  You were supposed to go out and play hero, Ragan."

"I wasn't trying to.  I was only trying to help and do the right thing.  I'm sorry for being helpful.  I'll try not to be from now on if that makes you happy.  Whenever I see someone getting mugged, or raped, or murdered, I'll just stay out of the way."

Director Jones looks at me.

"Ragan-"

"No, you're right.  I need to not help people unless it's about stopping Campbell.  I totally get it." I get up to leave and he stops me.

"Look, I guess this would have happened sooner or later.  In a worst-case scenario, you can help out, but that's it.  And only at night, alright?  But if there are already authorities or it can be handled by someone else, do NOT engage, do you understand me?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good.  Now, get training.  If you plan on playing hero, you better not fail in combat." He says.

I nod and exit his room, heading to the training room.

Well, I guess that went better than expected.
