11. Part Two-The Disappearance of Gordy Hart-August 4, 1963

****

Ten year's earlier....

Gordy Hart was eleven when he disappeared. It was during President John  F. Kennedy's time. His parents, Bill and Annie Hart, who was both thirty-seven, were good Church people. He had short, black hair, brown eyes, and average height; he rode on his new bicycle towards the Kansas School for Boys. Gordy, who was smart, stared at the fields nearby. And, as he saw the scary scarecrow, he knew what scared him. Bert Jamieson shook his head; Gordy waited for him to speak. "I saw it move. It scared me", Bert said. "Scarecrows ward of the black crows. They're immovable". Bert gazed at Donald's Mart. "Frank Deere told me scarecrows are evil. That if you believe in them, it'll kill you with its scythe". Gordy took his time thinking that Bert was lying; Bert never lied. He shook his head; he sipped his lemonade, as his parents were speaking to Bert's parents, George and Brenda Jamieson. "Lunch is ready", Bill said. And the two boys ran towards the outside dining area, and sat down on one of the chairs, and enjoyed their meal before Midday arrived.

After lunch, Gordy rode his bicycle towards State Road. He saw Brian Hart, his fourteen year old older brother, was eating a hamburger with his friends Lowell Nathan, and Bryan Campbell, (who were the same age as he was); Gordy rode towards the farmhouse. He stopped riding, then he saw a scarecrow watching him. He shivered, as he noticed the scythe in its right hand that was full of straw. Gordy grabbed the scythe in his right hand. "It's cold", Gordy said. And, as he gripped it in his right hand, a cool breeze wafted across his face. Gordy put the weapon in his right hand. Suddenly the scarecrow moved. Gordy screamed. And he fled the farmhouse in horror...and left the town of Lawrence, Kansas forever.
