Dollhouses & War

The first attempt at proper poetry and the next and the next.
"Not a tea stain, but a rain stain,"
"Does my heart tangle like headphones in a pocket?"
"...mascara tears registers exhilaration under rapid music beats. "
"Love is the only blood we will bleed as / Together we fall into a rainstorm."

20. Something About the Night.

There is something about the night

that makes my heart beat

on a specific frequency.

There is nothing but

glittery pavement,

wet with the dark

and rain.

There is the cold prying at the buttons

of my burgundy lapels,

begging to be at my throat

but I utterly refuse.

There is the words of music in my ears,

laughing through the one working earphone

that laps against my hair.

There is the smears of cars going past,

reduced to black and lights, and calling me

further home.

There are the stars,

 my watchers from above,

blinking to tell me that I don't need to look back,

and I am safe in their far gone arms.

There is peace in my walk,

arms floating by sides and

the itch to dance underneath the darkness.

I like this.

I need this.

There is just something about the night

that makes my heart change frequency

to just the right radio station.
