43. Epilogue

Tom was setting on the edge of my bed when I woke up. His hand was resting on top of mine and his red puffy eyes told me that he had been crying a lot.

I couldn't say anything. I didn't know what to say, how to deal with it all. So I just looked up at Tom, feeling him squeeze my hand. "We will find a way to go on living". He whispered and blinked away new tears. "We can be strong".

 "I.. I don't know". I was shaking my head.

"You have to". He answered. "In two hours we have to meet Zombie in the park and tell him what happened. You have to be there as the leader of The Stars".

"Zac ?" I started crying again. I couldn't take anymore. How was it possible to loose everything in such a short time ?

"He is okay". Tom squeezed my hand reassuringly. "He is badly wounded, but he is going to pull through". He promised me. "Christopher was leading the attack last night. After Ben and Zombie made an agreement, Christopher choose to try and get rid of Zac on his own. His plan was to kill Zac and possibly you. He only pulled out the soldiers when he thought he had succeeded".

"I am going to kill him. Slowly and painfully". I whispered. How could he do this to me ?

"First we need to get things under control. Until Zac is back on his feet he is officially listed as dead and you are the new leader of The Stars. We have put plan B in motion and I have the tattooist ready for you".

Tom supported me when I got up. He had put out some clean clothes for me and a towel. "When you are ready, com down to my office". He said with a light nod, before leaving the room.

Everyone went quiet when I stepped into the office. KC, Lucas and Hope was there, they had all gotten their new tattoos showing their new gangs. KC and Hope was now with The Eagles and Lucas with The Stars.

Hope was still crying, but KC already had both arms around her, comforting her. It was a relief that he was there, I was not ready to carry her grief as well.

"Lucas is your second in command". Tom explained. "You two, me, Mike and KC are the only ones that goes to meet Zombie in the park. Us as leaders and KC is going to hand over The Shadows to Clay".

KC went with me to get my new tattoos, I got the three stars on my neck, marking me as a member of The Stars. My I on my neck was turned into an L, the mark of a leader and the Z Zombie had left behind my ear was turned into an hour glass.

I walked between Tom and Lucas when we entered the park. There was still signs of the war, blood, weapons left behind and shells from shots fired. War left scars and marks, not only on your body and soul.

"When we get back home, we have time for grieving". Tom whispered to me. "Right now we are strong". I didn't answer him. Afraid I would cry if I tried.

Zombie was already waiting with Clay and Alec. He was standing like a king between them, waiting for us to come to him. We had agreed to let KC do the talking.

"I expected to see Ben here. Or has he already left ". Zomibie asked. His eyes was glancing at me. He looked kind of confused.

"Ben didn't survive the attack last night". KC said. "Neither did Kattie. Which is the reason I am standing here representing The Shadows".

"Is this a trick ?" Zombie asked. His eyes flickering from one to another.

"I teally wished it was". KC answered. "But as Ben is dead, we have agree to pronounce you the winner of the war, even though you weren't the one to take his life. I am here to turn over The Shadows to Clay as agreed upon by you and Ben. Tom and Amber is here as the leaders of The Eagles and The Stars, to make sure everything happens according to the rules".

 Everyone looked at me.

"You as a leader ?" Clay sneered.

"I knew Kress was gone". Zombie cut in. "But I hadn't heard that Zac was dead".

"Zac was badly injured in the attack". KC answered. "We has reason to believe that he was the reason for Christopher's attack. Zac was a threat to Christopher's power in Catrista and when you agreed on a truce, you took away his possibility to get Zac out of the way legally".

"Don't believe being a leader will keep you safe princess". Zombie smiled at me, a smile so similar to Ben's that it almost made me cry. "Quite contrary".

"I have nothing left to loose". I answered indifferently. "So bring it on".

"Clay, The Shadows belong to you". Zombie stepped a step back and Clay stepped forward to shake KC's hand. "So how many members do I have ?" Clay asked. "And how is it looking economically ?"

"Well, you have no members, just you". KC said calmly. "Most left ud before the war, and the rest when Ben told he was going to surrender and leave. Ben and Kattie was the last members. Uhh and The club got sold of to The Stars to by surveillance equipment, so Amber owns that now".

Clays face was getting increasingly red with anger. "Are you telling me that I am going to support a gang by selling sunscrean and sugar pills ?" He yelled.

"As the gang is you all by your lonesome, it should be possible". KC answered. "Are we done here ?" He looked at Zombie. "Or do you want proof of my words".

"You can't..". Clay was pulling his hair in fustration. "I... this is all your fault". He turned towards me. "You have turned everything upside down. It's your fault".

"Well if so it is a guilt I can live with". I answered. "And if you would excuse us. We has suffered great losses, so none of us really has any compassion with you not getting the power you so sorely wanted".

I turned and left. I couldn't deal with them right now. There would be a day were I was ready to answer Clay back and were I could care that Zombie was still a threat to me. I was going to find a way to revenge their deads, both Christopher and the town of Catrista was going to regret this.

But first I had to find a way to go on living. I had to find my own place in this world. A world were neither Ben or Kattie was there to guide me.
