Gabriella sat in her room watching her computer yet her mind was somewhere else. She couldn’t concentrate on her work as something was on her mind. Something that even she couldn’t explain. She only came back to reality when she heard her phone ring once again.

Looking at the caller ID, she let out a breath. It was Henry returning her call.

“Hi, how’s it going?” she asked.

“I was a little surprise to see your call. I wasnt sure if I would to even get to talk to you otherwise,” remarked Henry.

“Yeah, well I’m sorry if I got you on a bad time. I just wanted to talk to you about, well you would have guessed by now,” said Gabriella.

“Yeah sister and I cant agree on it.”

“Henry, you do realise that technically we don’t even have to invite you to this dinner as it is for the family. But we want you and your close family to get to meet the close family of our side,” said Gabriella in a calm voice.

There was a pause on the other side of the line. Henry was thinking about something and Gabriella hoped that he would understand the situation and back down.

“Ok, I’ll get mum to cancel the other people’s invitation and only send it out to close members,” finally said Henry. “Hope you are good, but I have to go for now. Have a meeting starting.”

And before another word, he hang-up. Gabriella didn’t know what to say as she sat there with a blankness on her face and mind. She should have been proud that she managed to get Henry to see a point yet nothing.

Gabriella came down when she heard a knock on the door. From the slightly opened blinds, she made out the outline of her grandmother. Behind her she saw her cousin and her aunt. Opening the door, she saw her aunt was holding a bag which meant that her grandma was staying over. It was that time of the weekend in which her grandma was staying at their house.

Every fortnight her grandma would come over and stay over the weekend. She was used to that arrangement. This however, meant that her sister or she had to give up their room so that she could stay.

“Hello hon, I tried calling but no one picked up,” said her aunt Brenda Lane. She gave Gabriella a hug and she took the bag from her.

“How have you been? Missed you at the picnic 2 weeks ago,” said Brenda.

“Yeah had work and I couldn’t get out of it. Already were short staff,” explained Gabriella.

“All good, seems like you are busy with uni and work. Working hard seems like.”

“Yeah, need to study and all in all make some money to. Especially with paying for outfits and all for the wedding,” joked Gabriella.

But then she heard Natalie and Holly come down the stairs. Her aunt started talking to them and Gabriella stood there watching them. She felt a little out of place as the aunt wanted to discuss a couple of things about the wedding.

“Hey, so can I leave grandma’s things in your room. It’s your turn this weekend,” whispered Gabriella to Holly.

“Leave it here and I will take it up later,” snapped Holly and she walked away.

“Gabriella, is my room ready? I tried and I think I will go to bed early today,” said Shelly (Gabriella’s grandma).

“I’ll check if Holly got your stuff ready,” said Gabriella.

She made her way to check on Holly’s room when she heard voices coming from there. The light was also on which meant that Holly was on the phone with Henry. She slowly creaked open the door and sure enough saw Holly on the phone. She was laying on her bed with her uniform, freshly washed clothes all over her bed and the floor.

“Give me one sec,” she whispered on the phone. “What?”

“I thought you said you were going to clean your room so that grandma can stay in your room this week,” said Gabriella.

“Come on, she can stay in your room. I couldn’t find her pillows and stuff and now I have all my staff around here. I haven’t cleaned my room so put her stuff in your room and let her stay there,” said Holly as she rolled her eyes at Gabriella.

“That’s not fair… She has been staying in my room for the past 4 fortnights that she has come over. I have morning shift tomorrow while you are on in the afternoon and I have like 2 assignments for uni to work on,” begged Gabriella.

“Well, I’m sorry. I have to talk to Henry and it’s only for one more weekend. She can stay in your room. Don’t need to be so childish about it. Now go, I’m on the phone here,” snapped Holly. “Sorry, yeah I’m back.”

Gabriella stood at the door watching her sister turn her back on her. Gabriella had so many things to say to her sister. She wanted to yell and argue but what was the point…She would be the one to lose like always. Even if their mum was involved, she would side with Holly like she always did.

This wasn’t the first and surely wouldn’t be the last time in which Gabriella would have to make a sacrifice. She was always the one getting the short end of the stick. When she asked her mum for some backup, she became the bad guy and she was the one that got told off. No matter what, Natalie always sided with Holly and Gabriella was the one that was in the wrong… always.

Once again, she was the one giving up her room because her sister was the princess in the family. Gabriella took her stuff and lay them on the mattress outside and made her bed. This wasn’t the most comfortable places to sleep but she had no choice.

When was she going to get the better half to this situation? She wondered as she continued to work on her assignment
