Bringing back Rain

"Go home girl." My smile vanished when he mentioned home. No way was I going back there. He narrowed his eyes in frustration.
"If your a prostitute, I'm not interested." Now I was offended.
"I'm not a prostitute you asshole!" My jeans weren't even that tight.

A girl trying to survive the hell that is her life and a boy who could make everything better... or way worse.

16. S I X T E E N | The shopping ordeal

"Are we finally done?" I groaned, my arms heavy from all the shopping bags I was carrying. "I really can't afford all of this."
"I already told you, I'm paying. And if we're going to get you a new wardrobe it's going to be a goddamn awesome wardrobe. I have a reputation to uphold." Ivy was already combing through another clothing rack, pulling out everything black, grey or distressed. Kasey wasn't much different, she just went for the more colorful stuff.
"And I already told you I'm going to pay everything back. I already have more clothes than Kim Kardashian, I'm sure I'll be fine."
"Don't be ridiculous, you have maybe 50 items so far. And you still need shoes. And accessories."
"Okay, stop. I really don't need another pair of shoes. And there is no way I'm going to wear a accessories. Do I look like I want to spend an hour every day getting ready?"
But after a bit of bickering between Ivy and me she successfully managed to drag me into a shoe store. Why did I have a talent of picking friends who were all more stubborn than myself? Somehow I still manage to convince her to go easy on the necklaces and rings and stuff like that although that was probably just because Ivy didn't wear a lot of accessories herself. Just when I thought we were finally done; Kasey suddenly got an evil glint in her eyes and she started dragging me into a store I definitely did not want to enter.
"No way. Forget it." But of course Ivy helped Kasey and before I could even try to run I was standing in a Victoria Secret changing room and seriously overthinking my choice of friends. There wasn't one single pair of underwear that wasn't sexy and way too much lingerie in my pile of stuff to try on. They'd even thrown in some bikinis although there was no way I was going to show my body to the outside world anytime soon.
I didn't really understand how I was supposed to survive wearing only complicated bras like the ones in front of me but once I managed to put the stupid things on I had to admit I looked pretty damn good. Not that anyone was going to see it but still. Nathan flashed through my mind but I pushed that thought away real quick. Just because we kissed once didn't mean we were an item or anything. And neither did living with him, though I had to admit, the two together did kind of suggest otherwise. Either way, he still wouldn't see me in any of these anytime soon. I did need underwear though and Ivy refused to go somewhere else so I had to admit defeat once again and let her buy the way overpriced pieces. She payed some stuff for Kasey too - although only after about half an hour of back and forth between the two - and I was beginning to realize that Ivy was probably pretty rich or at the very least very well taken care of. Why she worked in the bookstore was beyond me but I wasn't going to complain.

After that shopping trip my arms felt like they were about to fall off and my feet hurt. Kasey and Ivy were still disgustingly happy but they were exhausted as well so we all decided to watch a movie. Thank god the cinema wasn't too far away or I would've just collapsed on the middle of the street and stayed there.
"Rain?" I spun around and sure enough Nathan was walking towards us. He looked like his usual arrogant and unfairly hot self but something was wrong. Even though he concealed it really well, he was limping and sweat was visible on his face. Kasey stared at him like she had when they had first met - terrified and also a little bit curious - and Ivy was studying him, trying to figure out wether she liked him or not no doubt.
"Nathan! What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong. I just saw you guys and thought I'd say hi."
"Yeah, sure. What's wrong?"
"Really, it's nothing. I'll explain it later though if you really want me too." I got the feeling he didn't want to say anything in front of Ivy and Kasey so I dropped the subject - for now.
"By the way, this is Ivy and this is Kasey." I introduced the two, not bothering to tell them who Nathan was, since they obviously already knew.
"So you're the criminal Rain's staying with?" Ivy asked, not even trying to hide her suspicion.
"I wouldn't say criminal… but yeah, that would be me. And you're the girl she's staying with the rest of the time when she doesn't feel like dealing with me." I couldn't help but feel like that last bit was directed at me. I'd stayed at Ivy's last night after the tearful storytelling at the cafe. Going back to Nathan's would mean actually talking to him without anyone else around and I wasn't ready yet to talk about what had happened between us. There was clearly something going on between us but I wasn't really sure if I wanted to know what that something was quite yet. "Hurt Rain and you're dead." Ivy looked so intimidating I actually believed her threat. Nathan, being Nathan, just raised an eyebrow and grinned.
"Um, guys, you can stop now. I can take care of myself."
"Sure you can, cupcake."
"Stop calling me cupcake!"
"You have to admit though, it's pretty cute."
"Not you too Kasey! And I'm not cute!"
"Um…" "Shut up, Ivy. You too Nathan. Can we go see the movie now? Please?" And I had worried Ivy and Nathan wouldn't get along. Now I was worrying they were getting along a bit too well. They were hard to deal with each by their own but together? And I couldn't even count on Kasey to back me up. What kind of friends were they?
The only positive thing about Nathan showing up was that I could hand over the thousand shopping bags I was carrying. Although of course he just had to make a stupid remark upon seeing the Victoria Secret bag. I didn't forget about his limping, even though he managed to hide it well enough that I doubted anyone else would notice. He definitely didn't let whatever it was affect his ability to annoy me at any passing moment.
"I think I'll have to get another closet. Jesus, did you leave something for the poor other customers as well or did you just buy the whole store?"
"Don't blame me, this is all Ivy's fault."
"Hey, don't pretend you don't like the stuff! You clearly needed new clothes, might as well do it right. And I'll store the stuff if you don't have room. I think some of it might even fit me."
"And we're basically the same size, so you could always lend some of it to me." Kasey chimed in.
"No need for that, I have to much extra room in my closet anyway. But only if I get to see some of the stuff from that bag.", he said, holding up the Victoria Secret bag.
"Shut up."
"Guys, I think the movie's about to start, we should hurry up." I tried communicating Kasey my thanks through a silent stare which she actually seemed to kind of understand. But maybe she just thought my face was malfunctioning. Either way, Nathan finally shut up and we could enter the cinema.

By the time we were sitting in the cinema waiting for the movie to start I was pretty happy again. Not only did I now have a new, improved wardrobe, I also had a new, improved, social life. I had friends that actually seemed to care about me and I had a maybe-maybe-not-boyfriend situation. Everything would have be perfect, had my phone not decided to ring in that exact moment. I didn't want to look at it - everyone I wouldn't mind receiving text messages from was sitting around me after all - but I did anyway. And instantly wished I didn't. There wasn't an actual message, just one picture. A picture of me. A picture of me in Victoria Secret underwear. It took all my self control not to run out of the cinema and bury myself under my, or let's be honest Nathan's, blanket and never come out again. Needless to say, I didn't really pay attention to much of the movie once it started.
