Bringing back Rain

"Go home girl." My smile vanished when he mentioned home. No way was I going back there. He narrowed his eyes in frustration.
"If your a prostitute, I'm not interested." Now I was offended.
"I'm not a prostitute you asshole!" My jeans weren't even that tight.

A girl trying to survive the hell that is her life and a boy who could make everything better... or way worse.

9. N I N E | He did what with a pig?

Caelana Sardothien was the best thing that could have happened to me. I spent my entire Sunday on my bed turning page after page of throne of glass and every so often I would send Chloe, who had given me her number, emojis portraying every emotion. My door was looked and my curtains drawn so I could feel as alone as I possibly could after getting the message. It still bothered me the whole day but Throne of Glass was the best distraction I could come up with.
I got about a quarter into Crown of Midnight – yes, that's right, I'm a crazy person – when I fell asleep with the book still opened.

"Are you sure? You haven't even really tried yet."
"I can assure you Nathan doesn't need my help. And I would appreciate it if I could tutor someone who is actually willing to learn." I had been trying to persuade Miss Henderson to let me tutor someone else for two full minutes now.
"I find it hard to believe that Nathan is ready to pass exams after just one hour of you tutoring him." That was one of the many moments in which I wished I was taller. Miss Henderson was looking down at me, clearly feeling superior to me and looking down at me with her patronizing stare.
"Nathan could already pass the exams, he just doesn't want to study. I can't help him with that." Only my pride kept me from outright begging her to just give in.
"You can help him actually. If he doesn't want to study then you tutoring him will force him to. I don't want him to be in my classroom for the third year in the row."
I decided to try one last time "But if I only sit there and make him do his own work you couldn't give me better grades. I technically wouldn't even be doing anything."
"If that's what you're concerned about, I understand. You can tutor another student as well."
"No, actually, that's not what I…"
"Perfect, then. You can tutor another student as well as continue tutoring Nathan. If you could just come to the teachers room after school again you can meet and study with the new student right away. And work something out with Nathan."
My blood was boiling and I clenched my fists but Miss Henderson clearly wasn't going to change her mind anytime soon. I grabbed my bag and stormed out of the classroom, making sure to slam the door on my way out.

The rest of the day consisted of me desperately trying to keeping my eyes open. I was pretty sure I slept through at least half of history and in english I pretty much just swayed back and forth in a daze the entire time. When school was over I was sure I could fall asleep if the school caught fire but unfortunately my day wasn't over.
I tried looking as indifferent as possible as Miss Henderson introduced me to the poor kid who would have to stand my groggy mind for the next hour or so. Her name was Kasey and despite not knowing anything about her I already liked her more than Nathan. What made her even more likable was the fact that she was just as short, if not even shorter than me.
We decided to go to the school library since it was right here and we wanted to get it over with right away. At least I did, Kasey didn't seem to mind staying at school longer than necessary.
She didn't talk much as we walked towards the library but I didn't really mind. We were almost there when I heard someone running towards us from behind.
"Cupcake!" Kasey nearly jumped from the growl I gave in response.
"What do you want?" He seemed to be annoying again which was just a slight improvement from downright threatening.
"I heard we're supposed to be studying again."
"Tomorrow after school?"
"What do you mean, no?"
"I'm not tutoring you Tomorrow because I'm not going to tutor you at all. Just tell Miss Henderson we met and then pass the fucking exam." Kasey was just standing besides me, her eyes darting from Nathan to me and back.
"You are going to tutor me, if you like it or not."
"Oh, so you can threaten me but I can't threaten you?" I asked, reminding him of our little encounter a few days ago.
"That wasn't a threat, just a fact." Of course he wasn't going to apologize.
"Call it whatever you want, I'm done talking to you." I started to walk away but before she had made a single step Nathan took hold of my wrists once again. It might not seem that bad, being held by your wrists but when Nathan did it it fucking hurt. The worst part was, he probably didn't even realize it.
"Get off of me!"
"Tomorrow after school."
"What'll you do if I don't show up?"
"Try me." He grinned at her, let go of her wrists and started walking away. "See you tomorrow cupcake!"
"Asshole." I muttered, my eyes throwing daggers at his back.
"What the hell just happened?" I'd almost forgotten that Kasey was still standing there, gawking at me in shock.
"That was a wonderful encounter with the even more wonderful Nathan aka Asshole."
"Wow, your sarcasm is really subtle." Now it was my turn to be surprised. I grinned. Kasey could speak!
In that moment my phone pinged. I froze for a second but before Kasey could notice I looked at the screen. My whole body relaxed. It was Ivy, asking if I wanted to help her choose an apartment. I knew I should probably just tell her I couldn't but I really didn't want her to think I didn't want to be friends with her.
So I did what any totally sane person would do and asked Kasey if she wanted to come. Why? Probably just because I wanted to see Ivy again and didn't feel good about just abandoning Kasey.
"Sure…", Kasey looked just as confused about the sudden change of plans as I would probably be.
"Okay cool, then let's just go." Kasey still seemed taken aback but she followed me outside while I texted Ivy letting her know I was bringing someone. "Is is true that you're into street fighting?" I almost tripped when I heard the ludicrous question.
"What? Why would you ask that?"
"That's what people say, didn't you know? Because you always turn up with bruises and stuff and wear combat boots and…"
"That's the most ridiculous rumor I've ever heard." It was sad really, that the first thing that comes to mind to most people in this school, when someone shows up hurt, is street fighting. Of course you couldn't get beaten up regularly if you weren't seeking trouble. How naive were these kids?
"You should hear the one about Nathan going down on a pig."
"WHAT?!? How is that even possible?" Kasey opened her mouth, "Never-mind, I don't want to know."
"Or about Chelsea having a foursome in the boys locker room."
"Who's Chelsea?"
"You don't know Chelsea." "No, should I?"
"Well, she's the school's queen bee, mean girl and slut all in one. But of course you don't have to know about her. I mean you only went to this school for seven years with this bitch in the same freaking classroom as you."
"Geez, I get it. I don't really pay attention to my classmates."
"Yeah, I know. You don't know we have math, chemistry, english and history together, do you?"
"Um… sorry?" My cheeks were getting redder and redder. I should at least be able to recognize the people that I spent so much of my time with.
"Are there any rumors about you that I should know about?", I asked, trying to change the subject before it could get even more awkward.
"Not really, I don't think lot's of people even know about me." I felt guilty when I heard that. "I'm sorry."
"No, it's fine. I like it that way. You can't get any negative attention if you don't get any attention at all." At this point I was determined to make her my, or even better, Ivy's friend. Kasey shouldn't be on her one like that, I knew well enough how it feels like and Kasey didn't deserve that.
                            ✽ ✽ ✽
Ivy was standing in front of an apartment complex, looking down at her phone and only occasionally looking up. She was so immersed in her own world that she didn't see us even though we were standing directly next to her. I grinned and tapped her on the shoulder, shouting "Boo" and laughed as she screamed and started hitting me on the arm as soon as she recovered from the shock.
"Don't scare me like that! Jesus!"
Kasey giggled next to me. Ivy's gaze moved from me to her and her eyes widened for a second. All her attention was on Kasey and she only stopped looking starstruck when I fake-coughed.
"Ivy, meet Kasey. Kasey, this is Ivy." I introduced them to each other. Kasey looked shy again and I was pretty sure I could see her blushing a bit. Ivy was pretty much back to normal now but it was obvious that her main focus was still on Kasey.

Half an hour later we were done looking at two apartments and Ivy and Kasey were obviously flirting.
Kasey was still pretty shy and even Ivy wasn't as outgoing as she had been when I met her. I was tempted to say "Awww" a few times but decided against it. We were now standing in front of the third apartment and I hoped this would be it. Not that I didn't want Ivy and Kasey to get together but I was obviously the third wheel here and had enough of walking around.
The first apartment we had been to was decent enough but the landlord had been a total creep. The second apartment was filthy and I'm pretty sure the neighbors were drug addicts, judging by the cutlery and syringes lying around. This apartment looked nice enough, it was clean and seemed pretty safe. The landlord was an also nice looking lady who seemed to be a bit suspicious when she saw the three of us but as soon as Ivy said that she was looking for an apartment for herself she visibly relaxed. It became pretty clear soon, that this would probably be it. There were big windows everywhere, allowing the space to get flooded with sunlight and it was the perfect size for one or maybe even two people. Ivy said she'd be happy to take it and once we were back outside Ivy and Kasey were exchanging phone numbers and Kasey was giggling at a joke Ivy had made.
I decided to leave the two of them alone, so after arranging another time to actually study with Kasey I said goodbye and went back home. The message I'd gotten was being pushed further and further back in my mind and I almost felt safe as I looked my door. Almost.
