Bringing back Rain

"Go home girl." My smile vanished when he mentioned home. No way was I going back there. He narrowed his eyes in frustration.
"If your a prostitute, I'm not interested." Now I was offended.
"I'm not a prostitute you asshole!" My jeans weren't even that tight.

A girl trying to survive the hell that is her life and a boy who could make everything better... or way worse.

I woke up from someone laughing and someone else cursing. My head was pounding and I groaned, trying to ignore my surroundings. It took me a second to remember where I was but when I did I immediately sat up and the first thing I saw was Tyler struggling to get back his blanket from Ethan who was trying – and clearly failing – to make him get up. Ivy was next to me, propped up against a pillow and watching the scene before her with a bemused expression.
"Fuck", I said, massaging my temples, "I didn't even drink that much!"
Ivy laughed "The first time is always the worst." She reached over to her nightstand and handed me a bottle of water and I downed it's contents in a matter of seconds, enjoying the sensation of cool refreshing liquid running down my dry throat.
Tyler finally gave up and sat up as well. "What time is it?"
"Almost one p.m." Ivy answered with a sigh "I can't believe I'm still tired."
"Oh, okay… Wait WHAT?" Tyler was on his feet immediately, rushing to his phone which lay on Ivy's desk "Fuck, I promised Ash I would take her to dance practice. I have to leave. See you." He didn't even bother to look back as her rushed out the door and a few moments later Rain heard the front door close.
"Sorry guys, I have to leave as well. Chloe's already freaking out that she couldn't come yesterday because of her brother. She'll be furious if I don't show up soon." And before I knew it Ethan was gone as well.
"Who's Chloe?" Rain asked as she joined Ivy who was currently putting back the mattresses under the bed.
"She's Ethan's girlfriend. They're the cutest couple you've ever seen. But her brother's a douchebag and an possessive idiot, so every time he shows up she more or less lets him believe that she's a innocent angel and never goes out." I immediately felt bad for Chloe. I didn't know her but she seemed pretty cool.
"She doesn't have a problem with Ethan going out with all of you?" I couldn't think of a single girl in school who wouldn't flip at the thought of her boyfriend partying with a girl like Ivy without her there to check on him. To my surprise Ivy laughed.
"Nah, she's cool. I've known her for forever and anyway I'm gay as fuck." I stared at Ivy.
"Really? You don't look like… O god, I'm sorry, I just didn't expect it that's all. Do you have a girlfriend then?"
Ivy chuckled "No problem. Most people don't really expect it. I don't have a girlfriend but don't worry, I'm not going to fall in love with you anytime soon. You're cute and all but more in a little sister type of way." "I didn't… I'm not worried about that. And I'm not cute!"
"Don't try to deny it, you may dress fierce but you're cute as hell" Ivy smirked.
"Am not. Just don't start calling me cupcake" I muttered before I could stop myself.
"Wait, wait, wait!" Ivy studied me with a wicked gleam in her eyes "Who is calling you cupcake?"
"No one."
"Quit lying to me. Who is this guy?" She was grinning and clearly excited.
"His name is Nathan, he's an asshole and probably a criminal that won't leave me alone."
Ivy's grin faltered for a second "Probably a criminal or definitely a criminal? And is he hot?" That made me laugh even though I didn't really like this situation.
"You have horrible priorities. He has a gun if that's what you're asking. And I guess he's kind of hot…" I trailed of, blushing just of talking about his body. He was sexy as hell, kind of hot couldn't even begin to describe him.
Ivy was still grinning, clearly seeing straight through my lie "Well I'd have to meet him first of course. I can't just hand you over to a criminal without threatening him first…"
"Forget it, okay? He's an asshole and probably a player and also, do I really need to repeat myself, a fucking CRIMINAL walking around with a gun in his pocket in the middle of the night." Ivy's grin faded.
"What are you doing outside on your own in the middle of the night?"
"Wait, what? I didn't say that."
"Oh, so you just happen to know where he spends his time at night?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Ugh, fine, so I happened to be out late one time. So what?" Why did everyone think I couldn't handle myself. Because you can't, was the immediate answer from myself.
"You're crazy, Rain. But that's why I like you. Just don't do anything reckless without me, okay?" I nodded, grinning again.

Ivy and I were back at the book store. I was now finally able to actually work and except from a few times when Ivy had to help me out I was doing pretty well so far.
I was just about to start sorting in some more books that had come in today when the cursed crystals announced someones arrival. Seriously, those things were annoying enough when you went in as a customer but when you had to hear that sound all day it actually drove you crazy. Having a headache didn't help. From Ivy's pained expression I could tell, she too was thinking about destroying these damned things.
The cheery customer that walked in was none other than Ethan. Besides him was a beautiful brunette girl with a dark complexion and stunning red lipstick who I assumed was Chloe.
"Hey Ivy! Hey Rain!"
Chloe looked at Rain, clearly curious, before stepping a step forward and hugging her. "Nice to meet you. I hear you're our new friend now."
"Um… apparently so." Chloe laughed at my loss of words.
"Ivy you have a good taste in picking out friends. I like her."
"Why thank you. I don't really know what I was thinking when I picked you though." They were clearly really close friends. I almost felt like an intruder in the group. I literally only new Ivy for a day and Chloe for a few moments and they already acted like I belonged with them. How could they just decide to like me when no one in my school had even tried to get to know me in all the years I'd already been there?
Of course, they would probably still change their minds when they found out more about me. I wasn't a good liar, as everyone liked to point out and yet I felt like I was lying at them.
"Rain, I heard Ethan got you drunk yesterday. Please accept my sincere apology, the next time I'll make you the drinks. No one could enjoy those miserable excuses he calls an alcoholic beverage." "Hey, Rain clearly liked them. Didn't you?" Once again I didn't know what to say. I usually tried to just not care but I actually wanted them to like me.
"Well they did give make me tipsy…"
"Tipsy? You couldn't even walk in a straight line." Ivy corrected me.
"Could so!"
"Could not and don't even try to deny it."
"You don't happen to be gay, do you?", Chloe mused, following out banter, "You and Ivy would just make the perfect couple."
"Nope sorry."
"Well that's to bad. You could always change your mind though."
"Why are you two here anyways? I told you, I can't force Sarah J. Maas to release her books faster." Ivy's face was dead serious.
"Could you at least try? In the meantime I need something to fill my broken book heart", Chloe said, then turning her attention to me once again, "Did you read the last Throne of Glass book?"
"I haven't read any of them yet." I admitted. Chloe gasped dramatically and placed a hand on her chest.
Not even five minutes later I held a plastic bag full of books with the most gorgeous covers I'd ever seen. Chloe insisted she'd pay for all of them since it was her personal responsibility to convert me into a Sarah J. Maas fan. She and Ethan both left with some books as well and before I knew it, Ivy was looking up the store and we were headed back to her house.

We were both sitting on Ivy's bed watching Game of Thrones – just like Chloe, Ivy had taken it upon herself to introduce me to all the fandoms – when my phone vibrated on her desk.
I never got texts from anyone. I eyed my phone from across the room, sighed, and walked over to it, still wary. I picked up the phone and stared at the lit up screen for a second. My phone almost fell out of my hand and I couldn't stop a strangled gast escaping from my throat.
"What's wrong?" Ivy was trying to look at my phone but I shielded it so she couldn't see it.
"Cut the crap, what's the matter?" She looked seriously concerned.
"I… my mom just texted me saying I have be home in the next five minutes or she's going to kill me." My hands were beginning to shake so I held onto the phone as tightly as I could to hide them. Ivy didn't exactly looked convinced but thankfully let it go.
"Do you want me to drive you?"
"No, I'm fine. I'll be home quicker if I walk." I put on my shoes and put on my jacket in a hazy state. Ivy hugged me goodbye and watched me start walking before she closed the door behind me. I could barely keep myself together but made sure I was out of sight before I let the tears roll down my eyes.
I didn't want to look at the anonymous text again but I did anyways. With shaky fingers I unlocked my phone and stared at the message with the picture under it. The picture showed me yesterday night. I was laughing and walking down the dimly lit street. The angle suggested it had been taken from further away, from behind a corner perhaps.
The text only said "Liked your dress yesterday. I'd like it even more if I could rip it of your body."
For a second I thought about Nathan but he couldn't have been the one sending that text. He didn't have my number and I doubted he would take pictures of me without me knowing, despite being the asshole that he was. No, this was someone else. Someone who meant what he'd said.
I couldn't stop looking over my shoulder the entire way home.
