SCENE 3

 

LARRY LICKS HIS THUMB BEFORE DEALING THIRTEEN CARDS TO EVERYONE. THEN HE PICKS UP HIS HAND FROM THE TABLE QUIETLY SMILING TO HIMSELF. THERE IS A HUSHED SILENCE WHILST EVERYONE ARRANGES THERE DEALT HAND OF CARDS. THE ONLY SOUND THAT CAN BE HEARD IS THE CLICKING OF THE SNOOKER BALLS ON THE TABLE.

 

DICK TAKES A SIP OF HIS RUM BEFORE SETTING DOWN HIS FOUR HANDS.

 

IAN STACKS THREE OF HIS HANDS AND ONLY HAS ONE GOOD HAND TO PLAY.

 

LARRY SITS QUIETLY CONFIDENT.

 

LARRY:

Right ttthen everybody rready?

 

IAN IS FIRST TO PUT DOWN AQKI, ACE, QUEEN, AND KING.

THIS IS FOLLOWED BY ALAN WHO HAS A PRIAL OF THREE’S.

DICK PLACES A PRIAL OF JACKS.

 

DICK:

‘Beat that you buggers.’

 

LARRY:

‘Hhhold on, llook at this.’

 

LARRY PLACES THREE KINGS NEATLY DOWN WITH A GRIN.

THEN THREE NINES, JACK, QUEEN, KING AND AN ACE FLUSH

 

LARRY:

‘Erm four ttto me I think.’

 

ALAN MOVES LARRY’S PEG ALONG THE BOARD FOUR PLACES THEN PICKS UP THE CARDS AGAIN AND BEGINS TO SHUFFLE THE PACK BEFORE DEALING THEM AGAIN.

 

ALAN:

‘It’s a poor card player who cannot deal himself a good hand.’
